I was there that night, rooting for Hatton, the atmosphere was supernatural. But at the weigh-in the day before the fight, I could tell the occasion had got to Hatton. He was unusually arrogant with the crowd, unpleasantly so. Up until then I really believed Hatton could win but that was the moment I knew Flloyd had already won. The difference in class was obvious on the night, but the annoying thing was that Hatton really didn't bring his best game, and rabbit-punching was just plain stupid. It was also disappointing how much Hatton let himself down in the years after, but an unforgettable night all the same.

Hatton had only one fight at 147, and many people believe he lost that fight. Floyd was a bigger man, taller, heavier and had a much longer reach. Floyd shouldn't have fought Hatton, especially when there were a dozen welterweights available, all of which could have beaten Hatton.

1) Your boxing channel is excellent and your content gets better as it grows. Your pacing, commentary and editing allows the story to tell itself. Engaging on a real level. 2) Ricky Hatton will be overlooked by many because of his "fall", post-Mayweather loss. Yet prior to Mayweather, Ricky had already sealed excellent legacy. His resume is outstanding. His style, aggressive and exciting for fans. Though I recall watching this bout and grimmacing with his low hand placement, it equally made it exciting. Floyd really took some from Ricky. 3) I have subscribed. Often, channels have some good videos but yours really is something I'll keep coming back for. Will.

I dunno why he was so depressed (I do know, but you will see what I mean), He was literally one of the best. He fought with the best. He was revered as one of them, and *still* is. He didn't lose that match, as much as got outboxed. There is a difference. When you are an apex athlete, one of the most important things to remember is one of you is going to lose. They tell you to focus on the win, keep your eye on the prize. But they never tell you about losing, or practice losing. The mere thought of it is taboo. But reality is, it happens and is going to happen. You should know and understand this and prepare or practice it.

As Floyd has gotten older you saw the narrative change on his career. Truth is, nobody wanted to face him who you’d consider at the highest level because they knew he wasn’t worth it. It’s sort of like with Boots, you face him and lose then guess what? Now you lost to an unknown that throws the career earnings and trajectory off. His father if I remember right, didn’t want him facing Floyd. He had an admirable career in Britain but Floyd was on another level. He was the last fighter to truly push his tempo at Floyd from start to finish. Maidana didn’t even do that all fight. Floyd was throwing that check hook all fight but Ricky had slowed down just enough for it to really land.

I’ve rewatched this fight so many times, a classic for me. Floyd was slowly setting up a check hook trap into the corner where he snipe at Ricky but he was so smart to change his angle but finally Floyd used his heart against him after spending a couple rounds brutalizing his body. Then 10:15 by the 8th Ricky was essentially stumbling toward Floyd who started baiting him into lunging shots. He finally cracked it here in the 8th and uses the same shot in the same corner to finish the fight. For as criticized as he is, Floyd imo never got the credit he deserved for this fight especially how he fought it. He could have easily gotten on his bike and out pointsed RH but had something to prove. A strategy that haunted sugar Ray when he met Duran the first time when he was set on proving to folks he could brawl.

A very significant point is that Hatton was in his prime physically and mentally. Pacquiao did great vs Hatton but he was not in a good state of mind. He brought his A game vs Floyd and he still lost by Ko, that's what started the mental breakdown. I'm glad RH is doing a lot better now.
