There is no controversy about it, Jokic is the only player to be in top five in total points, assists and rebounds. (I said TOTAL). He leads the league in PER, Box plus minus(2nd all time this season), Offensive Box plus minus, Win Shares, Offensive Win shares, VORP and Player Impact Estimate as well as several others. Shai has truly surpassed expectations, but teams legit gameplan for Jokic and he's asked to do more. I'm okay with Shai winning if Thunder keep the first seed by the end of the season. Luka has amazing stats unfortunately his individual greatness does not translate to team success. Giannis is honestly the sleeper candidate but Nuggets will probably have a far better record. So Jokic is the best candidate.

I agree Joker is now #1. But the video confused the poll which asked who WILL win the MVP, seemed to conflate that with who they think deserves it-very different things. I would not use raw stats at all like points, assists rebounds...And am unusual in being a purist in saying that a TEAM'S success should not figure into MVP. Unless something really unusual is shown that they choke or play a game at the *expense* of teammates: MVP should measure who adds the most value, don't care if his teammates are preschoolers! All the advanced stats you cite ARE the best reason for Joker being deserving! But I wonder if you know more than me about them & can explain a couple of things, or have an opinion...WHY does Joker get significantly more credit in VORP than his Win Shares would imply? Compare say the best year of Shaq in Win Shares to Joker-same position-the latter gets MUCH more credit-his best VORP is 10% higher than Shaq's: even though Shaq has a BIGGER advantage than that in Win Shares (due to many more minutes). Do you believe that the scoring environment or position has changed that much that it is Fully Justified? Also, where do you find the Player Impact Stat? Shai is young yet he and the Thunder are doing amazing, they don't get enough coverage because they are from a small market. Sad. People should keep an eye on them. Yes jokic has better stats, but at the end of the day, shai is not only more valuable, but is having one of the most historic seasons in the nba this century. Jokic is not averaging 27/16/15 he’s averaging 26/12/9 shai is averaging 30/5/6 yes jokics stats are better, but that’s because he’s literally a center where is waaaaay easier to get rebounds and assist like that. Shai is also one of if not the best defensive player in his position. That’s why he was a dpoy candidate, there’s more to mvp that stats, and if stats were all that mattered than Luka would be higher than jokic but Luka doesn’t deserve mvp because he’s got no defensive. Tell me one historic thing jokic has done (this season) shai, is doing multiple historic records, and is going to break another thunder record if he keeps winning.

It's been a weird year. I really wish Giannis and The Bucks didn't need every game to practice. If he wanted to he could have made a push , his stats are as good as anyone's , he's by far the best defender out of the leaders , he also has led The Bucks to having the most wins over the last 5 seasons then any other team . Not saying Jokic or SGA should not be at the top but it should be far more of a 3 headed race. it is actually luka who is 2 but is disqualfied due to team standings... if he gets to 6th seed, he will have a chance at mvp, if he gets to 5th seed it will be a literal coin flip between jok and don and if he gets 4th it's luka's even though they both deserve it equally, but they'll definitely be looking to give it to anyone but jokic if they can and 34/9/10 that luka is averaging is plenty good enough
