Here's a martial art story from a very long time ago when I did Okinawa Te In Christchurch new Zealand. It was under Sensei Mike Lee. In the main dojo we had a heavy bag that pretty much felt like it was full of concrete. It was incredibly hard to kick without losing your balance because of the amount of force it transferred back into your body when you struck it. One day Mike got really mad at everyone in the class because we were losing our balance so he got some one to hold the bag to show us how it was done. He of course lost his balance really badly and kept doing it over and over again and kept losing his balance every time. Eventually he stopped being mad and simply declared " I know it's really hard but I expect you to do better." Strangely enough he never really lost any respect for that incident, and I think most people just treated it as a rare insight into the fact he was only human like the rest of us. It was a very tough school and I think we only got one black belt in about 7 years because the standards he set were so high. Higher than he could apparently attain even for himself.

He set standards higher than what he could attain himself? He’s just like the guy who created the first college degree. I’m sure he didn’t have a college degree himself

@@pewdiepieDL3 I honestly can't remember the names, but he did train under the highest Masters who I think were located in the US. He then emigrated to New Zealand and opened up the school. He actually took away the black belt from the only guy he ever awarded one to because he didn't think he was training hard enough. I really don't think you can do that but this guy john Grant, went to the US and got his black belt back. Then he returned to New Zealand and opened up his own club. I am honestly mixed in how I feel about Mike Lee. The way he ran his club back then would never survive to day, but the discipline of the training never left me and was a valuable tool I've taken through my life. There were a few incidents I could talk about but bottom line is he just wasn't balanced and it all got a bit psychotic at times.
