As a mechanic, I have to say that when you really look into the spec and build of these Z’s they are well set-up. The engines are proven to be reliable (VQ37VHR), the 6 speed manual is a close ratio short shift with rev matching. It’s has all aluminium engine cradled in an aluminium engine subframe. All alloy double wishbone suspension, carbon tailshaft and decent quad and double piston Arkibono brakes from Japan - all good stuff. For an N/A v6 it’s not bad considering it’s always compared to V8s which it’s not. The Z’s handle well and provides some old school fun. Yes they are getting on in years but when you put it on a hoist you can see where the engineering is in these cars - they are well packaged and worth a look as a good second car. I also noticed they are still Made in Japan! Good to know!

I just bought a 2016 Pearl White NISMO with 7800 miles on it. Not a scratch and still smells new. Story from the dealer was a couple had 4 cars. Husband bought it for his wife and it sat in the garage and they only drove it occasionally. I was looking all over for the right car. Carmax had some duds. Almost paid to have one shipped to South Carolina from Texas. My local Greenville SC Nissan dealer bought this from the couple who was looking to just sell it. Ended up getting it with and 6 year extended warranty for 30,500 out the door. I absolutely LOVE IT. I had a 2005 350z Anniversary edition my ex wife took when we got divorced. Yeah I could have got a Mustang or a Challenger or something. I have loved Z cars since the 70's and never could get one. For some reason the Z car just speaks to me over other sports cars.

I have a tuned Audi TTS that does 0-60 in about 4.4 sec, but honestly I test drove a Nismo and it was more connected and fun. Also, more fun to drive around town with the low end grunt. My Audi needs to be over 4K RPM to access the power. The steering in particular was soooo much better than my Audi steering. Performance numbers are overrated and only tell part of the story. 370z is a great fun for the money proposition used. Plus the Recaros are absolutely the best seats I have ever sat in. I actually put Recaro Sportster seats in my Audi after driving a Nismo. However, the Nismo Recaros have a softer base and are adjustable, so they are more comfortable than mine.
@BrosFOURRSpeed3 жыл бұрын
Oh nice! Yeah the Recaro seats are fantastic! Best seats ever! And I think the lack of the front diff is what makes the steering so nice for the Nismo. Check out a A90 Supra! Good blend of both cars! Mine makes 450/560 to the wheels FBO and tuned. Crazy fun and sharp handling!

I agree with you completely; the Nismo, new, at $47K is not a good value. At that price you might as well pony up a few more bucks and get a low-mileage Cayman S. However, at the $30K price range it is an excellent buy if what you want is a purpose-built sports car without unnecessary glitz. I bought a 2019 370Z sports coupe 6MT new for about $34K and think it is a great value for the kind of car I like to drive. The fact that these Zs don't have all the latest and greatest electronic gizmos with all kinds of high-tech driver assist technology is a plus to me. Aside from the good power and handling, the appearance of the car is one of the best IMO. My car is an all-black car with some of the bright metal trim badging blacked out that I had a multi-step paint correction done on with a ceramic coating. The deep wet glossy finish and the smooth curves and aggressive visage make this car turn heads often. It ticks all the right boxes for me.

Can you comment on maintenance costs of Supra, vs GTR vs 370z? I suspect the 370z is very low maintenance vs the other 2.
@BrosFOURRSpeed4 жыл бұрын
kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5ysl6yNgJp5lac Here yah go!! Honestly they are all cheap to own. The GTR is actually easier to do the oil change on then the Z. Less bolts in the under tray. Both the Z and GTR can have an oil change for about $35 if you get oil on sale and DIY. GTR will be slightly more for brake pad and rotor replacements. Maybe an extra $1k over the Z. Transmission fluid and diff flush will be like $450 on the GTR vs around $250 on the Z. Every 35k miles. The Supra takes the most oil at 7 qts. So it'll cost maybe $80 for me to do it myself once the free toyota changes run out. But overall nothing outside the norm.

Fact is, Z doesn't need super technologies in it. Z is a legacy and a "feeling". Honestly you're right, Nismo edition is a bit expensive. I've taken the Sport Edition (everything the same as a Nismo, still a few aesthetics making it different from standard version). I only wanted to correct you in all modesty, but actually depending on which distance/speed you're talking, automatic isn't the quickest. Each gearbox being manual or automatic has advantages and disavantages. If you have the chance, go do some pulls against other Zs to compare and you'll see. :)

370z have so much potential. If you can drive it properly, they'll put up easy flat 13s or high 12s on a drag strip. Theyre amazing for drifting. Great for turns. And once you start tuning with RZG, Z1, RsEnthalpy, LimpMode, or Saul and using GOOD bolt ons... you'll easily be taking out NA v8s. Plus you can always just save up 5k-12k and get a single or twin turbo kit and start destroying supercars.

The Recaro seats in the NISMO 370Z are AMAZING! Some of the best seats on the market, PERIOD. I’ve sat in and driven both generations of R8s, Huracan, 458, GT3, Evora 400, 4C Spider, etc. and they hold their own against all of them! Love this review! Great job, Bro!

My girlfriend had a 2014 A/T touring version, came with a one of a kind Stillen exhaust that made those pulls just sound so brutal! Shortly after we drove her home, bought some cheap eBay short rams w/ heat shields.. combined with the Stillen, really woke up the throttle response, improvement thru the entire rev band... the top end power was just day and night difference! The sound of the rev matching blips were eargasmic. I'm an owner of an E46 M3 myself & have to wholeheartedly admit the VQ37VHR is a beast of a V6.. those highway merge pulls were solid, even for being NA no FI not making 500+hp etc, it's absolutely stunning performance! Must get it pre-owned though for sure; we got hers for around $25k if I remember correctly, around 15k miles!! Not a Nismo, but still just... trust me, I drive perhaps the best ///M car BMW ever produced lets admit ;) get this car while you can for such a great price, pre-owned! That 3.7L has lots of potential; eventually go FI if desired & achieve GT-R performance in a Z body :D

As a 370z owner my self, I half agree with you on the car. I bought my Z Last December for 16k which was a 2009 base 370z with 58k miles. I was looking at used nismo but unfortunately all tbe nismo in my area weren't less than 35k. I couldn't justify financing 35k for a used nismo when there are better things to buy. Instead I figured I'll buy a older 370z (because frankly, 2009 and 2020 are identical) and with the extra 20k I would be saving, using that in upgrades would justify it for me. Nismo only makes 50hp more. Luckily mine came with a aftermarket exhaust, intakes, and a aftermarket radio. For half the price, I'm getting as much if not almost. Toss in some racing seats and a back up camera from Amazon (which I've bought) and only diffence between a used 370z and a nismoz is the body kit and Rev matching. Though, 370zs are still great coupes, regardless of which package, but only if their used :)

People saying it's "dated" are like progressives: They think that _all_ change is good change. I think that they changed exactly what needed to be changed, and the changes they made would have been good changes regardless of year. What changes? Namely, the body styling. It's sharper and less rounded than the older 370z, which in my opinion takes it from a "really nice-looking sports car" to a head-turner on par with the modern Corvette Stingray. Not quite that cool, but in the same ballpark. More importantly, I LIKE analogue. I like the hydraulic steering. I _like_ the quaint LEDs and the driving-focused lack of tech. GOOD. I don't want my car telling me to stay in the lanes, telling me if I can still back up, or distracting me with ten different screens. Don't get me wrong, I love bells and whistles, but the types of bells and whistles these days are intrusive and disruptive. They don't enhance the driving experience, they _molest_ it with safety features that try to remove the skill and attentiveness. Get out of my way and let me drive! So for my money, this is _exactly_ the car I'd want to buy.
@Blackdawn803 жыл бұрын
I'll take the 370 since it's an actual Nissan, the Supra is just a rebadged BMW product and if I wanted a BMW I would just get one.
@BrosFOURRSpeed3 жыл бұрын
Eh not really. Toyota had just as much input as BMW. They co developed the B58 motor and the entire platform. Just made more sense to build it at BMW then create a whole new Toyota Plant. And the Supra smokes this Z in all performance tests. Would have been nice to get a manual tho. But the new Z will be some good competition!
@Blackdawn803 жыл бұрын
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I never said the BMW running gear was inadequate. I simply said that the Z is superior as it is a true Nissan product. Whereas the Supra is misrepresenting itself and for no reason as Toyota has sufficient rear drive cars in its lines up and the GTR is proof that an i6 isn’t necessarily a deal breaker. Some will argue production costs among other advantages like the Toyo/Suby 86.
