My favorite version of this song. The most memorable of the lines in this song for me is. "The dog up & died, he up & died...after 20 years he still grieved" ...I can relate..it alway reminds me of my baby....after 25 years I still grieve... I remember when Nitty Gritty Dirt Band recorded this song..."Goddess" was still living, but I knew that when her time came....I would grieve forever for her....thanks for the video, & the memories of wonderful pet that worth every tear i've shed for her.

This song was all over AM radio in the 70s when I was a kid and it really grew on me. Also I'm noticing a lot of comments here about dads and how this song reminds people of their fathers--very touching.

When I was about 12 years old I started staying up nights and listening to the radio. They had a show call the All Nighters Club on this new format called Classic Rock. One hot night about 2 or 3 AM I heard this for the first time. Blew me away. As a 12 year old I could not imagine 30 years later I would be able to listen to most of the music made in the 20th century for free on a computer. Many changes since then have been bad. The internet has been good.

So sad to hear about the passing of Jerry Jeff Walker. Mr Bojangles was his finest song. Nitty Gritty Dirt Band rendition was the one I remember in High School. I loved that song then as I do now. They did a great job. It takes me back to a time that was at its essence, pure and innocent. Can't seem to find that today. Regardless, the memories wash out the stink of today's culture.

Such as Bread, Bad Company, CCR, BTO, ELO, REO Speedwagon, Journey, Kansas, Styx, Lynyrd Skynyrd too many to mention!! Bread, who had out some Great Songs/Hits like "Everything i Own, IF, It Don't Matter to Me, Guitar Man, Aubrey, Look What You've Done, Baby I'm A Want You" & Soo many other Great Songs that are still being Played today on Most All Really Good Radio Stations that Play the Classic Hits. These Bands/Songs will still be playing Long After we're Gone. There Will NEVER be Any Music like the Music of the 60-70s Era...Neverr? If, you Didn't grow up in this Era? Then you Really Have Not Lived? Right Stephen!!

On this day in 1971 {May 29th} the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band performed "Mr. Bojangles" and "House at Pooh Corner" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand... Six months earlier on November 21st, 1970 "Mr. Bojangles" entered Billboard's Hot top 100; eventually it peaked at #9 and spent 19 weeks in the Top 100... And one month earlier on April 24th "House at Pooh Corner" entered the Top 100 and it reached #53 and stayed 13 weeks in the Top 100... R.I.P. Mr. Clark...
