This is a round that deserves mass production. I can't honestly think of anything better for self defense than being able to control the spread of lead downstream, while still giving a nice wide firing area for less experienced or capable shooters, while at the same time producing a wound or set of wounds that would be utterly and completely devastating to an attacker. This round is limb-shearing in its potential. Very nice. Maybe one of my all time favorites. Excellent work, sirs.

I can almost guarantee it could take a head clean off of the shoulders. This load would probably be illegal in most states to use for home defense. But..... I'd still use it. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Fascinating. I've seen this referred to as chain shot in a book from the 1950s. The method of making it was crimping lead split shot fishing weights onto wire, or pulling a buckshot cartridge apart, splitting the shot with a knife blade, and crimping them into the wire. I always wondered how it might work. Or if it would work. And what would happen in a rifled barrel!

@@toryumau6798 Yes, in the pitching sea combined with the lag of a fuse fired cannon, a direct hit to the mast was almost impossible. As winning a ship to ship battle usually depended on disabling the opponent’s ability to maneuver and making a successful boarding possible, “strung buck” would indeed tear through sail and rigging. Naval combat was ripe for innovation... it must have been quite a time!

So called 'chain shot' came in many forms. Expanding bar shaped things, actual chained together cannon balls, even hollow spheres cut into segments chained together. The actual purpose was to rip apart the rigging thus slowing an opponent and reducing or (hopefully) eliminating his ability to maneuver. There was, of course, always the likelihood of hitting enemy crew with this stuff...

I wouldn't hesitate to use it for home defense.
@nanaki-seto3 жыл бұрын
Well any round is a good home defense round so long as you know for sure what is on the other side of the wall. You want to avoid over penetration because you can not always be sure. You also don't want high count loads of buck shot etc because of not being able to control where the shot goes. A weak load with 6 balls on wire in a ring shape could make them pretty solid have the ring 5 inches across. This would increase the chances of hitting something vital while controlling the shot
