I've started mentally paywalling sadboyz episodes behind feeding my snakes (i have a reminder set as well, but telling myself 'you can't watch this until the boys have been fed' helps make sure it actually gets done while i'm thinking about it) and it's very helpful, but it has the unfortunate side effect that i now associate the sight of the boyz with the scent of hot mouse

In reference to your idea of Lego set restoration, I've actually done that before. When I was younger I found about 80% of an arc-170 in bags at at thrift shop, and have been hunting down the pieces over the past 10 years. It's probably about 99% now with even some of the original stickers found, but I've intentionally not used online retailers.

as someone who's read a number of the ender's game books, i didnt know the author sucked, but i am not surprised in the slightest. honestly the only reason those books arent crazy offensive is because theyre honestly just too fucking bizarre, you cant even concentrate on the terrible implications (super long rant about this book series ahead, i doubt anyone will read it but i am filled with the need to talk about it) (also i agree with the guys here, i actually do really like speaker for the dead, but its still definitely weird and i would argue there are still some issues in it) "quick" rundown of the weirdest parts in case anyone is curious (spoilers obviously) -the character ender ends up marrying a girl who he first spoke to when she was a child and he was very much an adult. because of space travel weirdness, for him, meeting her as a child and marrying her when she was an adult were only like a couple months apart. -there is a species of aliens referred to as "piggies" living on a planet that for some reason is entirely catholic. one of the (many) plot points in book 3 was about how they had developed their own religion and thus were corrupt heretics who needed to be further colonized (im not exaggerating in the slightest, 'heretics' is the actual word used) -also in book 3 was a whole plot about a 3rd planet based on ancient china. the people they worship spiritually are people who perform repeated, compulsive actions (tracing woodgrain lines in the floor being the main example). they believe that these compulsions are sent to them by the gods. it is later revealed that, in fact, this is a genetically modified form of OCD which was implanted into these people so the wider space government could control them. again, no exaggeration, they call it OCD in the book -theres fucking cloning at one point. its done by, like, holding an idea in one's head while traveling faster than light. the world recreates whatever youre thinking about. this is all done by a sentient technological overlord named jane, who also gets into some kind of romantic relationship with one of the characters despite being incorporeal. -at some point ender's wife becomes a nun and then he decides to become one too, out of like solidarity or something lmao -oh yeah the piggies i mentioned earlier have a life cycle that involves half the female population getting pregnant and giving birth as infants, and then dying in the process of birth. and the males turn into trees when they die i actually dont think the books are that bad purely because they're so crazy and bizarre that they do kind of make you think about shit, but not in the way card intended lol. there was definitely some kind of drug involved. and before you wonder too much, yes, every single notable female character exists with an attached male counterpart and usually just exist to prop up that male counterpart. you just dont really notice because so much insane shit is happening. i didnt even list some of the weirdest stuff, like the hive queen's communication with ender and the suicide trial room. fever dream of a series

speaker for the dead pisses me off because like there’s cool ideas in it. like the biology of the alien species is so cool in theory and it’s so fun to explore but then boom he’s a weirdo about it. I feel that way about most of the books I read from the series, but speaker for the dead was simultaneously my favorite and least favorite. In the hands of a more normal author, who either did less or significantly more drugs, those stories could be some of the best sci-fi ever written

@SadBoyzPod the reason all Ezekiel's lines are ADR in madame web is because apparently they had originally filmed his scenes in a completely different language, and during screen testing they didn't understand why he was speaking in a different language ( i mean he is from a different country so it makes sense kind of....) so instead of re doing it, they dubbed it and of course the acting doesn't match the dubbed over voice recording.

1:14:00 Rediscovering things you loved as a kid is often uncomfortable. I was OBSESSED with The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind when i was a teen and young adult. It was easily my favorite series and ive read the first 12 books at least 8 times. Well, within the past year i read them again and they're *BAD* . Goodkind is incredibly obnoxious in his bad ideology, and when asked at a panel he says he "doesn't write fantasy," he writes "about real people and real situations." With that in mind, every 5 page long diatribe a character regurgitates feels like Goodkind screaming at you about how cool libertarianism is and how stupid and stinky everyone else is. And aside from his ideology being trash and his attitude being smug, he's just a bad writer. The dialog sucks and so does the environmental storytelling.
