7:30 Unfortunately I do have a genuine fear of vomiting. It’s predominantly triggered from hearing and watching other real life people doing it (absolutely no issue with it being animated or in written text, particularly when it’s super unrealistic/cartoony) and a majority of the panic attacks I’ve suffered from have been because I’ve been exposed to someone vomiting or on the verge of it. Whenever I plan to watch a new show or movie I always have to thoroughly check for vomit warnings beforehand, because the last time I didn’t bother to check (watching District 9, phenomenal movie btw I highly recommend it) I got caught off guard and ended up having to rewatch it later because the sheer amount of panic I felt was causing heart palpitations :( I do wish it was a fear that was treated a little more seriously by others 😔 If you can accept why people fear disease, you should have the same acceptance for emetophobia imo since they’re very adjacent phobias

You should NEVER accept an irrational fear in the sense of placating it, protecting yourself from it or wanting it to be "recognized". Instead, just face it, you'll panic, your heart will beat whatever. With time, you'll just get over it. An Amygdala is like a protective dog, it barks at anything you teach it to bark at but it's also possible to teach it to stop barking by constant exposure and confidence, reassurance.
@landonbagg5361Ай бұрын
I gotta say, some of the fears that "no one would have" some poeple would actually have fears of vomiting, fears of body odor(like not someone else with body oder but being the person with body odor because you may be insecure about it so you may be scared that you smell bad), fear of mosquitoes(malaria), fear of a desk job is totally reasonable. I dont want to grow up to sit at a desk for 8 hours looking at a computer. I already do that enough at school. there is probably more but im lazy. Other than that, good video

Yeah, the categories seem kind of arbitrary (a fear of meteors WHEN THERE'S A GIANT METEOR COMING TOWARDS YOU is rather rational, and aging is Category 1, but old people is Category 3???), and the complete dismissal of some phobias is almost ableist. The entire point of phobias is that they're irrational, so it's not fair to hold some phobias in higher regard to others, especially while admitting some Category 1 fears are irrational.

even with really common fears like flying and spiders, you could point to statistics and say "that's completely irrational, why are you afraid?" at the end of the day, a phobia is just your primal brain telling you to be afraid of something, and everyone's brain is different. i'm terrified of crane flies, even though i know that they're completely harmless and, in fact, extremely dumb. phobias just skip the logic part of your brain, and they're nothing to be ashamed of and DEFINITELY not something someone should be ridiculed for.

@bluz191Ай бұрын
Hey !! Great video. Just wanted to say that fear of vomiting is very real when I was three years old I could hear my mom vomiting in the bathroom due to morning sickness and because of that my entire life I have been terrified of other people vomiting more than myself it is called emetophobia it’s embarrassing I literally scream and run away if someone near me throws up, or get super anxious when ppl say they’re nauseous. I used to even be scared to burp when I was younger to the point it gave me stomach issues
@PeaxhiiteeheeАй бұрын
I loved this show so much and this is such a fun video, but I do wanna point out tho that a large part of having a phobia is the irrationality that comes with it. The very definition of a phobia is that the reaction is dramatically out of proportion to the real life danger. It's kinda insensitive to say that these phobias aren't real things people experience just because they don't make sense to you.
@QdrakeАй бұрын
I agree phobias are irrational,but isn’t others reaction to how out of place the reaction is the point.if it was rational they wouldn’t be a phobia in the first place Also some phobias can always be criticized if the response is to abnormal or damaging, I don’t see people giving there hearts out to individuals who have homophobia
@metalmaple-fluffyhoney54Ай бұрын
This! This is important to keep in mind Phobias aren't just mild fears, they are a psychological phenomena that causes people to have irrational fears outside of their control To fight phobias people need therapy, so simply "growing up" or "toughing it out" isn't an option
@QdrakeАй бұрын
@@metalmaple-fluffyhoney54 this I agree,accepting these phobias also involves actually acknowledging,understanding and helping others who suffer from them
@PeaxhiiteeheeАй бұрын
@@Qdrake I'm trying to say that they ARE irrational. The irrational fear response is what makes a phobia a phobia, but to get through that fear people need therapy and understanding to help mitigate or remove that fear and any abnormal or damaging affects it might have on someone's life. Bringing homophobia into this is kinda presenting a straw man argument, it has nothing to do with this. If someone had a genuine fear response the same as someone who had a spider or clown phobia but in regards to LGBTQIA+ people, they would also be in need of understanding and therapy because it's a FEAR. However I think you're talking about homophobia in the hate sense, which isn't a genuine fear response but bigotry. That's a completely different issue.
@QdrakeАй бұрын
@@Peaxhiiteehee but aren’t both still by definition irrational reaction,the point still stands because if you aren’t willing to have the patience to deal with irrational anger or hate,how can you expect others to have the same patience for fear or disgust. The principle remains the same as both show that responding to those who show either symptoms should be treated with seriousness and be properly addressed, but if you can’t be patient to help bigots,how can you expect others to be patient towards others that you feel sympathy towards.

Theory, the fear of being stared at by a duck is because ducks don't normally do that. It'd probably give you the feeling that something's just off, you know, just not right. But yeah, it's still a very weird phobia that you probably shouldn't have.

I know this is suuuuper late, but I'm very glad I found your channel, cuz so far from the three videos I've seen you post, cover shows I watched on netflix and completely forgot about-- they are indeed obscure and again I am very glad you cover them because they were weird yet entertaining when I was a kid lol

I think it’s safe to say that Figaro is a Pantophobic, due to his legitimate ‘fear of everything’.

this video is super subjective. most of these things can be very real fears, albeit irrational
