I think the long green things are probably the plastic equivalent of the wire loops used in microbiology for inoculation, transfer, 'streaking' plates etc.

It would be really cool to grow matrix cultures, I would pay extra for a kit with a bit of matrigel included.

"Petri Dishes" or 'plates' (lab slang). Usually plates when they are in use and have media and cultures on them.

Why do you want this kit and what are you hoping to achieve with it?

I used to do genetics research at Leicester University. The Genetics department there is one of the best in the world, so you should not have far to go for help!

Would you know if this is illegal to do within the uk without doing it with in university premise? In Germany you must be part of a university to do so. Cool video 👍

Timothy Clark yeah I’m from Ireland and I’m also wondering that also do you know if you can use crispr to create transgenic organisms?

sooo 10 months in any updates?

Um...I'm embarrassed to say that I have still not done anything with it. Probably the supplies have degraded by now. I am hoping I will get time in April. Thank you for goading me to do something about it.

@@DarkAgeTheorist sooo it's been a year. Any updates🤔
@DarkAgeTheorist5 жыл бұрын
@@danklyf4202 Thanks for your interest. As a matter of fact, I finally got round to the experiment a week ago. Unfortunately, it didn't work, presumably because the supplies degraded after I left it so long. Nevertheless, I recorded the whole process, and I plan to put up a video so that people who are thinking of buying the kit can see what steps you have to go through, and perhaps learn from my mistakes. I am thinking of ordering some fresh supplies and having another go some time.

Did you complete the experiment?
@DarkAgeTheorist6 жыл бұрын
I confess I did not. Life and work have been getting in the way. I hope to have time in January or February next year...if the biological materials have not degraded after a couple of years in the fridge and freezer...
@mediaskate6486 жыл бұрын
Dark Age Theorist thanks for the response, I’m sure you could ask the seller if the bio material is still good and if not just order that. Definitely would love to follow your experiments if you take the time :)

Any update? Did you try the experiment? To be honest, I felt like this entire thing is a rip-off. They market it as something that lets you do your own bioengineering but it's really just another newer version of the 'grow your own crystals set'.
@DarkAgeTheorist7 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried the experiment...maybe next month. I think I'm a little bit daunted by it. It requires some time to be set aside and seems rather involved. I know what you mean about it being the new 'grow your own crystals'. In a similar way, drones are the new kite-flying. I could never get those crystals to grow so I very much doubt my attempts at genetic engineering will be successful. What I hope to get from it is a better mental picture of what genetic engineering actually involves in practical terms...make it less abstract.
