@@jerodast Its a great running joke that partial explains why Michael hates Toby. Its hinted that every manager and higher position seem to hate their own HR and never give a proper explanation why. They hint at more at later seasons with giving spoilers.

@@chillwavveSeason 5 is a great season as well. People only care about the "decline" after Michael leaves. Some of the greatest episodes of the show were from the later seasons. The first 3 seasons were romance-story heavy and I don't like the "Jim-Pam" storyline taking center-stage. That's not what a mockumentary is supposed to be about.

I love her "there's one too many people there" line. It's just absolutely true. It always jumps into my head multiple times watching season 3. She's the one too many people :( Their relationship was doomed, and she kind of knows that might be true but hopes it isn't.

In your laughter I'm not sure you caught Ryan's glance at the camera at the end, which I think is the best and most chilling dramatic acting BJ Novak will ever accomplish :P Being a good salesman probably helps be a good manager of salesmen, but of course they're interviewing for an executive job a level above that - I actually agree with not caring much about sales, while still disagree with diploma obsession. However - my interpretation is Jim had the job and withdrew, so they were "forced" to go with Ryan. Also, we do get more info on the results of Karen's interview pretty soon. David had hit it off with Jim when they met earlier (wooo decisions based on "networking" aka give jobs to your friends), and he mentioned on the phone to Ryan "I know we left the other day on a note of uncertainty, but after further thought..." which I see as a sign Ryan was not the first choice. The closeups on Jim's face and the flashback is signaling this is really Jim's agency determining the outcome IMO.

In my headcanon David knew exactly what he was doing when he "tipped off" Michael about Jen's future at the company. David knew about Jen's behavior after all, including frequent visits to Scranton - Doesn't take a genius to put two and two together. Knowing Michael and that he would go directly to her and considering Jen's mental state a massive meltdown was almost certain. Sounds like Dunder Mifflin saved on a severance package there, because Jen lost her shit. I see a promotion in David's near future ;)

The assistant (Hunter?) reminds me - he was the lead actor in a criminally underrated comedy, that only went two seasons, called "Trial and Error." The show centers on a young, New York (meaningful look at the camera and deliberate nose scratch) lawyer that relocates to a small southern town to defend accused murderers (John Lithgow and Kristin Chenoweth, seasons one and two, respectively). Like The Office, it's a documentary format. It's hilarious. It's wild. You'd absolutely love it. While it wouldn't have the built-in clicks of a show like The Office, you'd be introducing it to the majority of your audience and they'd love you for it.

It looks like the Superfan Episodes that NBC created to help get members for their Peacock streaming service. They are alternate episodes for seasons 1 through 6, basically like a director's cut, with a lot of extended and some completely new (old) scenes that never were aired. They do add quite a bit of content that never was shown anywhere else, even on the hard copies. If you have Peacock, they are listed under their own title, "The Office: Superfan Episodes", separate from the standard "The Office" series.

While I think season 2-3 is the pinnacle of the show and it starts to be noticeably less consistent as we proceed from season 4 onward, I still think of season 4 as the conclusion to the initial storylines. Spoiler: While maybe some people got sick of PB&J's saccharine togetherness VERY quickly, I thought it was just nice to see them straight up no-drama happy for a bit!

You can feel bad for Karen if ya want but it's not like he stepped outta the relationship or anything. jim couldnt move past his years of feelings for pam and broke off the relationship to pursue that. You can't be too mad at someone doing what makes them happy and although the breakup timing probably wasnt awesome for her it is what it is lol.

I mean, you can definitely feel bad for Karen that Jim took half a TV season to wake up to the fact he wasn't gonna get over Pam and string her along like that, even if he didn't do anything egregious. It's no great awful tragedy for her, but I still feel sympathetic. I also know fans who were like "okay FUCK Karen" as soon as she called Pam a bitch haha. Hey now. Sure Karen got the shaft a bit but only a bit. She was a control freak. We only saw bits and pieces of her personality but I do not imagine Jim would have been remotely happy with Karen because he is always going to be a prankster at heart and she is always going to be the disapproving girlfriend trying to change his behavior. They are a terrible fit.
@JimmyMacram

Every time Jim played a prank on her, she seemed to take it just fine. She even does the same at the party they go to w/Michael and Dwight. Thought they were a fine fit... but that isn't even the issue.

The haircut while seemingly small isn't small. She was trying to change him and we all know he wasn't over Pam. So Karen wanted him to "grow up" and he is always going to be a goofy kid at heart. I might be reading too much into her interactions, but I also think you are downplaying her bossy behavior. He was still in love with Pam and he told Karen he still had feelings for Pam. That should have ended things if Karen was smart.
@jerodast
@jerodast Жыл бұрын
@@jmalonemyth I think you're overreading the control part; it seems to me it just comes down to Pam. The controllingness is her very understandably wanting him to stop being hung up on his old crush, but not being able to find any way to do that. You're right of course they should've just ended things a lot earlier. In fact trying to stay together is really being too accommodating. I guess you're getting at "she thought she could change Jim but she couldn't" and that's certainly true enough. But I don't really connect the haircut to it haha - it's not out of line at all to get a nice haircut for a Big Corporate New York Job.

@@jerodast I think Karen didn't mind goofing around every now and then. I mean, ultimately that is part of Jim's charm. But she always struck me as more ambitious in general, while both Jim and Pam were fine just goofing around and in fact both didn't consider their jobs at Dunder Mifflin to be that important in their lives. The haircut is part of that imo. There's nothing "wrong" with Karen and suggesting to "put in some effort" is absolutely sound advice (i wouldn't call that "controlling"), i just don't see her and Jim's life goals fitting together all that well. So the haircut is an indicator for a much bigger issue imo.
