Im a movie buff, can't get enough of them, and never once have I looked to a movie critic for a review. The point Andrew made about taking a review from someone who creates things you like or someone that has the same or similar tastes as you being so much more valuable is so true. Never really thought of it that way. Pretty cool Edit: Kaya is absolutely insufferable lol holy shit, garbage takes
@execrisiscoreonearth
@execrisiscoreonearth Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's definitely not the easiest thing to identify for every single review - type piece of media/information, but it certainly helps to keep in mind if the writer themselves share any similarity whatsoever to yourself, and potentially why they may not see something the way you might. Reviewers are inherently biased, so rly it just helps to consider if their biases swing towards your likes/perspective or if they may "oppose" it. For lack of better phrasing. Lol.
@execrisiscoreonearth
@execrisiscoreonearth Жыл бұрын
**now that I'm watching the part lol, the above imho, still counts with the type of audience that may or may not go out to engage with the reviews: are they review bombing, or overhyping, because of a bias you do or don't agree with? Imho, it's about identifying the "bias skew" within certain people's reviews. If they are reviewing in bad faith/acting from a perspective you don't agree with (including reasons like review bombs cuz of a small/specific aspect of the media piece, never engaged with it/ rates it perfect because an actress has "big boobs", getting paid to review it, or whatever nonsense that drives a person to write about this piece of media)

@@chriskirk9708 the "professional" reviewers from magazines/newspapers are paid by the companies to review their movies/shows/games; they are essentially just advertisements disguised as reviews. They also get access to exclusive events, premieres, interviews, behind the scenes access, etc. This creates a system that where reviewers will almost always give higher scores to those with the fattest wallets, and if you go against the system, you lose out. Disney has banned critics from their events and movie premieres multiple times in retaliation for negative reviews. Joe-schmoe getting ad revenue from KZbin doesn't have to worry about any of that and can give their honest opinion, and be more fact oriented. This goes for everything media related: every big news organization just wants to tell you what you want to hear, and suck off their corporate owners.

In my first year of college I knew a girl who was reading 50 Shades of Gray and she was embarrassed I saw she had it in her bag, not because of the racy content, but she knew that when I inevitably asked to look at it that the prose was so bad it was embarrassing to read. I wasn’t mean about it, I’m very much a you do you kind of guy, but that page I read was some of the most godawful writing I’ve seen in the pages of a book. Later I ran across a copy of one of the Twilight books, read a page and realized why. To each their own I guess, but I can’t even really describe why but something about the sentence structure, the dialogue, it was just …. Off. It was the uncanny valley of writing for me. @GeneralTaco155555a
@GeneralTaco155555a Жыл бұрын
Nobody gave it a 40. The reviewer's score is binary: Is it worth watching vs is it not worth watching. 60% of the critics said it wasn't worth watching, so it got ~40% critics score. The 95% rating also mostly comes from people coming out of the woodwork just to counter the critics. Somehow the Mario movie became a part of the "culture war," and people are essentially positive review bombing and acting like it's the best movie ever made.

As a smaller creator who's got a decent following between a couple tiktok & youtube accounts, I've found ZERO success with anything I've posted over on twitter, so in a last ditch effort I decided paying for a couple months of blue was worth the investment. I'm a little put off by the fact that so many MASSIVE creators assert that I'm lame for taking the chance, but yall should know how damn hard it is to get any traction over there. I've been trying to get larger creators to potentially help me do a takedown of an asshole that's made over 1 million $$ in the last three years by selling vapes to kids as young as 12 via his super shady vape website that's exclusively advertised on his various tiktok accounts. A video on tiktok with over 15 million views and over a million likes gets little no attention whatsoever on twitter

@@Cash42 like what? international news or updates on ongoing world events? new developments in science / technology / economics or even entertainment? the thing with all of those topics are that a significant amount of the publications about them aren’t required to have a credible source or vetting process. that isn’t to say that everything online is untrue and you shouldn’t believe any of the things you read, but i’m just saying that social media tends to be the most unreliable (or at least one of the most) sources of information-especially for "live updates" from accounts that are not verified or specialising in a field- Keemstar accounts but for news… social media, generally speaking, has a big focus on views, likes, comments & impact, but the impact is usually only focused on driving traffic to a place. i’m reading this in my mind as i write and it sounds like a condescending reddit user who just always knows better than anyone, but i don’t. i don’t know what sources people rely on for information or updates, i don’t know which sources are reliable. i’m also aware that all of us have a bias towards what we consume and it’s important to keep in mind that our preferences affect what we read. but, if you do want to use social media as a way of keeping up with things, it should always be looked at from no single perspective. find different articles, different authors, etc. the main problem is that people have no filter required for comments on a major story, and reading through them is an entertaining thing to do but shouldn’t be taken too seriously or done often; twitter especially has a reputation for having constant drama and the worst takes on any given thing. it’s the half blood demon child of 4chan’s weird fetishisation of literally anything, its creepy communities & reddit’s sad division of people with even 1% in difference of opinion and passive aggressive replies. legend says a connection was made due to the toxicity of them both and thus it condemned twitter to a state of unrelenting anger and l+ratio’s (ended up writing an essay on twitter & shit but fuck it, may as well post it for the sake of my wasted time which wouldn’t be used for anything of importance anyways but o’well)

@@Cash42 fuck that long ass comment, my bad. gist of it is that twitter has always become this increasingly rage ridden cesspool of shit takes, and now elon controls the platform and is limiting anything from people who aren’t subscribed to the app: it will be algorithmically driven by subs, celebrities (probably) solely everyone on twitter seems miserable and everyone who talks about it and even use it frequently say that it’s a toxic environment in general. u can consume whatever media u want, wherever u want. just try to limit exposure to twitter’s fiery wrath
@Cash42
@Cash42 Жыл бұрын
@@thomasmoroiu yeah I get what you’re saying, I definitely try to go out of my way to not put myself in a weird echochamber where only certain perspectives are expressed. I follow several accounts that provide sources for news, tech related things, science, economics, politics etc. I also generally speaking like to keep up with things I enjoy like music & movie related things. there’s some reliable sources out there, I think it’s only if you don’t go out of your way to find them then yeah you’re just seeing whatever the algorithm shows, OR if you just choose to not seek out other perspectives, but at the end of the day with so much misinformation everyone has their own sources. I ultimately still think Twitter can be useful, especially when you compare it to other social media platforms and it’s not like if I compare it to news outlets, that is just way too political on both sides to really just receive news without getting caught up in all that so I rather try to individually seek out information and honestly despite the negativity and toxicity on Twitter, I do think that oftentimes you get a pretty good idea of how people are feeling about a certain subject and that in itself helps you see things from different perspectives too. If anything I think my mental health suffers more from the negative shit going on that I’m aware about rather than the constant energy on the platform, and just because I’m not seeing bad news doesn’t mean it’s not happening so idk

@Cash that's why you use news apps that filter the content across both sides of politics to see what each side is avoiding aka " lying by omission " about. As well as KZbin and Rumble (Left and Right Wing) , that's how you can find out what your " enemy " thinks and you never know you might switch stances or find a proper middle ground.

So about the whole Twilight thing and then making film adaptations of books, I'm super excited for the possibility of the Percy Jackson live action series being halfway decent considering Rick Riordan is staying his ground in being like entirely involved in the entire creation of this project, so that way we don't get an innocent like we did with the two live action movies. So I'm crossing my fingers. It will be good because I loved the books, I remember my fifth grade teacher reading us the first book and I went out of my way to borrow that same book from the library and finished it in like 2 days and set listening to her retail the story for the next week straight while I was already getting into the rest of the series and by the time she finished the first book I think I was done with the original five and by then he already had the three books to the Egyptian series out as well as he had started on. I believe it was the five book follow up to the original five books but this time they added in the Roman stuff because Roman gods are just refitted Greek gods and after that he did the three book north series and then after that as they follow up to his second set of five books. He did another five with the god Apollo as the protagonist which was really good twist. I liked it a lot, and now it seems he's shifting away from that universe that he set up with those five sets of books that he also found a really cool way to tie together collectively but I'm hoping with this new series he does if he decides to make it a standalone thing that maybe she could expand upon that new university creates, or maybe somehow he'll find a way to tie it back to you. His universe he has already come up with, Long story short, as well as I apologize for all of the improper grammar or spelling mistakes or random punctuation because I'm using voice to text because it's quicker, anyway, long story short, I'm just excited for the fact that our next piece of Percy Jackson related material is going to be faithful to the books. I'm so excited! I'm sorry for the rambling, but I'm so excited
