I like using coconut milk rather than heavy cream. It all depends what I'm serving it with. Pairs well with deep fried coconut shrimp.

What does your grandmother use instead of heavy cream. Dairy was not much in their traditional diet.
@markmasaki14802 жыл бұрын
@@shamp1245 I don’t think Grandma Hisao used heavy cream with her sweet potato. I think she likes any dish that includes it because she is Okinawan.

In Okinawa, these are called beni imo. 150% more antioxidants than blueberries! I love these potatoes wrapped in foil, slow baked at a low temperature. They come out so moist and sweet. Amazingly simple and delicious.

to me, the best way to cook a sweet potato is actually to pop it in a toaster oven, 400F for 1 hour. tastes so much better than boiled. the fact the skin is on keeps all the flavor and (more importantly) nutrition in. cooking stuff in water just makes most nutrition leak into the water.

Pop it in whole? On a pan? Covered with foil?
@chochooshoe Жыл бұрын
@@giuseppinasanger6410 yes, pop it in whole (with the skin! it's the key because then you don't lose any of that wonderful natural sweetness), you don't need to cover it with foil at all. I just put some foil down on the shelf of the toaster oven because I wouldn't want to the syrup (in case any comes out) to leak through to the bottom of the oven, and then put the sweet potatoes on the foil. I usually rotate them half way through. try it; so tasty :)

I use unsweetened coconut milk with Italian A2 butter. Coconut milk makes it sweeter and it's healthier for you too than buttermilk.

Ms Lum cut the pointy top off of the sweet potato. Next put the large flat side down so you have a stable base. Next peel from top to bottom. Actually you don’t need to peel sweet potatoes. Give it a good scrub n poke holes in it n either steam it in a microwave or in a steamer basket or instant pot. The skin will peel off easily. Added Bonus: the sweet potato retains much of its color n taste when not boiled!! Try it. I used to boil it like regular potatoes too but the difference is obvious.Look at all that beautiful purple water. In the pot (steam ulu n kalo in the same way) I prefer Coconut Milk over Heavy cream, the flavor pairs better. Have you cooked with ulu yet? Do a collaboration w/Sam Choy he lives in Kona. Get on the ulu band wagon!!. That would be great!!. Mahalos for sharing this video.

Yes, need to steam instead of boil. Boiling removes the nutrients and color.
