Nice to have memories like that. Mine is from collecting potatoes after they harvest them. So many stay behind and the farmers are happy if you collect them. We went every year when I was a kid.

The old press system gives less oil but it sooooo good. Sadly I think it will not work again.

I am not sure I understand the question. But yes for the second press they add luke warm water to extract more oil. Later they rest the mixture and the oil separates from the water again. Still classed as cold press if the water is not warmer then 50 Celsius but I am not sure about that. Could be 40 Celsius too

I can get by. But I came here without any Turkish and yes it was hard. If you don't have the money to get the help of somebody that just sorts stuff for you, or a friend close by to do the same you will run into frustration. But, if you are flexible and open to everything you will love it. Things always turn out well in the end. The people are amazing!

Hi and thanks for that. When the olives are first crushed into the pulp, do you also crush the pits? And is there special preparations ‘straight from the tree’? I’m wanting to make some oil from my olive tree fruits coming soon…

I am not sure if the pit get crushed or not. I guess they do but don't take my word for it. And no preparations between collecting and the press. They do say here to keep them no longer than three days in bags before pressing. But I see bags waiting longer.

yes, the complete olive is ground to a pulp. The picked olives need to be deleafed, washed, then ground. After being ground, min 25 min of malaxing, then to the press

The press takes 20 % of the extracted oil. Harvesting I do myself, so no idea.

Harvesting will be starting in November or December. And I don't think there is oil left for sale. You can always ark at the Candir tea garden. They also own the olive press. We are in Çandır, Köyceğiz, Muğla

In between 1kilo of cold press oil from 4 to 8 kilos of olives. Depending on the quality of the olives. Olive type, the weather etc. I live in Candir Turkey and that's where the press is.

In a normal year about 4 or 5 kilo. Nut it depends on the type of olive I guess.

Do you mix the first press and the second press (WITH ADDED WATER) before bottling, or do you sell each press separately? Because to be considered as EVOO it must only contain the frist cold press juice.

Do not know this tree. In this area it's all about the Liquidambar orientalis and they do tap it. I just do not know who or how.

@@mrh4742 yes, this tree grows in the mediterranean region. It has many different names. ''Ayı fındığı ağacı, tesbih ağacı, Tesbi, Çakıldak,Zamzalak, Zanzalak ... '' It is burned as it is thought to be of no use. They used to make soap from its fruit and a fence from its branches.
