I have this exact watch bought new in 2006. Worn it all over the world as a traveller because it's inconspicuous, light, comfortable and has great lume. I recently put it on a timegrapher and it showed zero, that's zero, plus or minus seconds per day. After 17 years! Admittedly I don't wear it everyday which probably helps greatly to reduce the necessity for servicing. Can't remember the amplitude but it was well within range, and steady. This watch is bullet proof.

Love my 2231.80. Bought it for my father with my first paycheck, then inherited it back when he passed. I have small wrists but this is such a wearable watch due to its low profile and light weight.

The Blue Wave version was my first good watch...... I admired it on the wrist of my boss at my first job. We didn't have the watch community back then that we have now, so I never managed the courage to ask him if I could try it on....... three years later I turned 25 and bought one for myself. I still have it, and it reigns over all that have come and gone since. Bravo for a fine tribute to a BEAST of a design! (now I need a Titanium version to keep the old, blue-faced girl company)

Thanks for taking a look at this watch in detail. We don't often get to see such in depth reviews of watches from the days before KZbin and watch blog sites. I would love for Omega to create a revival of the 2254.50, except in titanium, with a modernized, quick adjust bracelet. I know they would feel compelled to put their co-axial master chronometer movement in it, but I wouldn't need it.

@@vianouche1 On a small run of early models the blue dial fades to purple. The same thing happened to the Rolex Submariners of the era with the blue sunburst dials. I think it had to do with the lacquer used.

I chose this reference for all the features you mentioned and it is, in my opinion more special as you don't tend to see it in the wild as often as others. Bought a 300M in 2002, Ref 2054 (basically the more common 2254, but with the five link 'Bond' (European)bracelt. Loved it then and love it now, but ... about ten years ago I saw this 2231.50 positioned against some knife in some gear ad and thought WHAT IS THAT?! Had the jeweler I bought my 2054 from had this titanium version in stock it would have definitely taken the day. I love the clean look.

These are so cool, much more so than the 'Bond' 300Ms that came before and after them. My only complaint is I'm not a fan of the big, bold numbers on the bezel, but I saw someone put a Planet Ocean bezel on a 2254 and that made the watch perfect.

Great review Blake, I appreciate that era of tool watches too, no nonsense, a bit like IWC at that time, I think what you said about modern watches being a bit more than just two watches was correct, tool watches these days are luxury, watches and often large and shiny, apart from some of the ones you mentioned. I like this a lot, firstly because it's titanium and secondly, because I really get the feeling of the very old Seamasters from the 50s and 60s from the dial design, thanks again!

Great video, I have a question that maybe someone here can help me…other than band what's the difference of omega seamaster 300m 2031.50 vs 2231.50?
@Joe-xo3xy Жыл бұрын
@Blake and to anyone reading this-every time I see or look at a seamaster professional iteration that has come after the sword hand 300 professional, I immediately go to Rolex. I know Rolex did not invent round lume plots but as usual, Rolex is the brand that will take a trend and make it their own, they did that with the engine turned bezel which was first used adopted by Omega. I wish Omega had retained the original design of the 300 with the sword hands, it is inherently Omega.

I refuse to buy a current SMP, after I discovered the 2254.80. The current gen. looks terrible 80s in the dial and the Ebel look alike, stuck in the 90s bracelets, are so out of touch and not timeless at all. It only gets worse when it has added the bond theme.
