I agree with you about the pen not being compatible with the paper from a company who objective is to make it a feature or an incentive for using the notebook.

This would be a deal breaker for me also. One shouldn't have to test all the pens available to find a suitable pen that does not bleed through at this sort of price point. The Squire pen should absolutely be compatible with the journal and it is not. Personally, I would have written to the CEO enclosing a sample of a page showing the pen bleed through. Sometimes going to the top is a better way to be heard ! . Thank you for all the hard work that you do reviewing items for us all to enjoy. Did you conclude if it is the paper or the pen at fault, or both !!!

I did share the photos with the marketing team and ceo. I have a good working relationship with them. I’ve used the pen in my other journals without much issue. The thinner the paper the more ghosting and bleed through. But it’s always been an issue with those pens in their notebooks. Glad to have options even though I love the way the pens wrote

Hey, Mark. I agree, the bleed through would be a deal breaker for me. Thinner pages are a very acceptable compromise for what it delivers. But bleed through is not. I feel like I’m a bit isolated in the camp that actually enjoys (and sometimes prefers) very thin ballpoint pens. It takes a little bit of trial and error to find one that isn’t too scratchy or that skips at all, but they are out there. Sometimes you need to “warm them up” on a separate piece of paper if they’ve been sitting without use for some time, but once I get them quickly going, they’re excellent and can look just like gel pens, if you find a good one. And they come in different colors as well, for some variety. So that’s what I would use in a notebook like this one. Rollerballs are very unlikely to bleed through. However… could the paper be better? Yes!! Like I said, most people don’t use rollerballs and the bleed through can be very off putting.

I have the huddle and can attest I think it has the same poor quality paper. It just astounds me since the journal itself is not cheap, so why not spring for better paper?

Excellent prompts and process. However, I prefer a cleaner look and feel, I would prefer the icon check boxes to be in the header or footer of the page in a section that is more condensed. The icon choices would definitely trip me up, it could be from using the bullet journal symbols, such as a circle is for event. The rest the notebook would encourage me to give it a whirl if it had a cleaner look and feel. I will tolerate ghosting, yet the pen bleed through is a deal breaker for me as well. Thanks for sharing!

If I can't use my fountain pens cleanly in a journal, I'm not using that journal. You can replicate any system in a bullet journal; yes, it’s work, but you can adjust it to your needs. I find the methodology jarring. My goals are broken down into milestones, which are broken down into tasks.

I'm disappointed that they don't have this as a beginner book, with a version for those who already use it. That's a LOT of wasted pages to see the guides in every single journal. I made sure to check the website before making this comment.

They use a thinner paper so this journal is affordable?? That’s is insane crazy expensive. Especially for Canadians. This isn’t cheap and it’s not good quality either.
