Interesting how, numerically speaking, CV-1 was Langley (refit collier), CV-2 and CV-3 was Lexington and Saratoga (refit battlecruisers, Constellation was planned but cancelled around the time of redesign), and CV-4 was Ranger (the first ever US built from the keel up carrier). On the part about the superstructure, apparently the USN thought along the same lines as you because for the next class, the famous Yorktown-class (CV-5 Yorktown, CV-6 Enterprise, and CV-8 Hornet) pushed the superstructure and smokestacks together. On the subject of AA, you can thank Admiral Willis 'Ching' Lee for that since when he was in charge of Navy Acquisitions (meaning he was CONSTANTLY butting heads with the Bureau of Ordnance) he placed an order for ALL the AA guns and then, once it was signed off on it, he edited the order so that the guns were ordered and THEN when ships came into port they were swarmed with refitting crews to add the ordered guns to the ships. In case you're curious, CV-7 was the USS Wasp, the first and only of her class. They reused the names of several of these early ships when they built and launched the legendary Essex-class. None of the Essex-class were lost in battle, all lived to see the end of the war, and four of them made it into preserved status. (These would have been the most numerous class of carrier as 32 were planned to be built. Of these, 24 were built and the last 8 were cancelled. CV-10 USS Yorktown (formerly Bonne Homme Richard) (preserved at Charlestown, South Carolina.) CV-11 USS Intrepid (preserved at New York City, New York.) CV-12 USS Hornet (formerly Kearsarge) (preserved at Alameda, California.) CV-16 USS Lexington (formerly Cabot) (preserved at Corpus Christi, Texas)

Also USS Saratoga (CV-3) Second of the Lexington class aircraft carriers did survive the war and was used in the operation crossroads nuclear bomb testing

In fact, it is the USS Saratoga (you can recognize it by its end-of-war weapons), which for some reason WarGaming called the Lexington.

16:54 they didn’t even use magnetic fuses! The allies developed radar proximity fuses, which was suprising because of how robust the electronics were! Magnetic fuses would not trip on aircraft, because of their small size and aluminum construction. Also I find that the little time it takes to line up from behind the ship you’re attacking does wonders with how many bombs hit. I’ve nailed destroyers with both of my ranger bombs taking out 80% of their health because 70-80% of my reticle is over their ship

Not to ruin any moods and all, but technically you are playing as Saratoga in Legends. Lexington never received the 5 inch dual-purpose guns like her sister Saratoga did and if you look at photos of Lexington before she was sunk in 1942 the former positions of the 8 inch guns were taken up by seven quadruple 1.1-inch gun mounts (nicknamed the Chicago Piano) and I believe some were found on Lexingtons Wreck.

It would be nice if they could add in the Essex and Yorktown class. Maybe branch out the carrier tech tree so that Yorktown is a tier VII with AP bombs instead of HE bombs. Then, after Lexington, Essex is a tier VIII carrier with HE bombs, and after Yorktown, the Ticonderoga subclass is a tier VIII carrier with AP bombs. That’s how I would do it.

Yup! The ship I want the most currently is USS Enterprise CV-6. She was the OG Enterprise. Her service history was incredible. It is an UTTER shame they didn't save her as a museum ship.

They actually did on pc recently. Hornet and Enterprise have been there and I believe Enterprise has the exact gimmick you mentioned with the AP bombs.
