Being pregnant with my 6th baby in 8 years, here is what I pack in my hospital bag each time for a more comfortable stay! Now these are just my personal preference, I would love to hear yours!
1) Going home outfit for you and baby
2) Toiletries (see below for what I pack in my toiletries bag)
3) Phone charger (pro tip, get a 10ft charging cable)
4) Stroller fan (this can wrap around the hospital bed)
5) Nightlight
6) Ear plugs
7) Sleep mask
8) White noise machine
9) Pacifiers
10) Pajamas
11) A Nursing bra you can sleep in
12) Your own labor and postpartum gowns if you prefer
13) Cute swaddle and or outfit for baby for hospital pics
Toiletries ⬇️
• lip balm
• lotion
• hair ties
• shampoo
• conditioner
• body wash
• toothbrush
• toothpaste
• floss
• face wash
• skincare must haves
• make up
Now these are just my personal preferences, I would love to hear yours! I know many people like to bring their own towel as the one at the hospital is small but I don’t mind it! I know people also like to bring their own pillows but again the hospital ones to bother me!
Help some new mamas out and drop your favorite must haves in your hospital bag ❤️❤️

My only non-negotiable outside of your list is my own pillow. Their pillows are awful and I love my own pillow and makes my stay far more comfortable.

@@paigesteed5447 That's a bummer! Most hospitals try to make sure you remember. Especially if you use a different colored pillowcase so that it stands out from their white ones.

I don't bring my own regular pillow... but I do bring my Boppy pillow for breastfeeding! Especially because I had a c-section with my son and will be having my 3rd baby/2nd c-section in a few weeks, having that Boppy to not only support baby better - but protect my incision - game changer!!!

1) My hospital did not provide sticky/grippy socks so I brought one pair for delivery (that I threw away) and one pair for each day (usually 2 for vaginal and 3 for c-section). 2) My own Depends Discreet “diaper” to go home in because the Depends is so much more comfortable and stays in place better than the mesh underwear and giant pads the hospital gives you. 3) If you’re breastfeeding, bring your nursing pillow! I never went anywhere the first 3 months without My Brest Friend pillow. 4) For a second baby, if you have any frozen breast milk left from your first baby, you may want to bring some in case your milk doesn’t come in at the hospital and you don’t want to give formula (nothing against it, I just know some people have a strong preference). 5) My hospital also did not provide wipes, so we brought our own Water Wipes. 6) Baby nail clipper - sometimes baby’s nails are razor sharp or grow super fast so it’s nice to cut those down while they’re sleeping. 7) My hospital only provided a huge wrap shirt for baby, so I suggest bringing your own wrap-style onesie (we love the kimono-style snap onesies for the first few weeks so you don’t have to go over the baby’s head). 8) My hospital only provided receiving blankets to wrap baby and we found them very difficult to stay swaddled, so perhaps a stretchy swaddle blanket too. The nurses will want easy access to check baby every couple hours though so nothing too complicated or heavy. 9) Opposite of a fan, but a sweatshirt or robe especially if you get an epidural bc sometimes that can make you cold or shiver and you just want to be comfy while snuggling your newborn or trying to sleep/rest. 10) If it’s cold out, bring a winter/knit hat to bring baby home in bc they can’t regulate their temperature yet. 11) Not all hospitals offer meals/cafeteria service at night or early morning or for your partner, so bring snacks and any DoorDash/UberEats, etc. gift cards you may have for when you’re starving or want real food. 12) Donut pillow for sitting for a change of pace from laying in bed or be more comfortable while feeding. LASTLY, know how your car seat works before bringing home baby! There’s nothing worse than googling car seat instructions while you’re trying to buckle in your newborn 😅

I’m American and had my first baby in America. I stayed three nights in the hospital settling into newborn mom life. I moved to England and had two more (with one on the way!) and literally delivered my son in the afternoon and left by 11pm that night!! Sooo different here. Hospital bag in the UK is probably just your car keys 😂

@CheapsKate77 It depends on your insurance and what's needed medically. I stay for 4 days because I have c-sections (had my oldest vaginally and was home day 2, my middle was c-section, and this next one in a few weeks is c-section again). I can't have narcotics so my doctor does a new pain management protocol where they inject each layer of tissue with a numbing agent as they sew you up to help with the acute pain at the incision. It requires extra monitoring though (96 hours) so my insurance covered our 4 day stay. I'm actually looking forward to the 4 days at the hospital (scheduled for 6 weeks from now) so I can get a bit of a break from my 4yo & 2yo - who I love dearly of course 😂 But my hospital is so great that it's like staying at a hotel. Updated and upgraded private maternity rooms with big flat screen TVs, full size dad beds, 3 meals a day via room service, a patient cafeteria stocked with good snacks and drinks that is open 24/7 and 100% free for patients and their partner, and the nurses are so amazing. It's like a (very sleep deprived) vacation 😂

The fan, ear buds, birthing gown, adult diapers, i like to wear gowns with a robe and comfortable bra. I'm wearing an adult diaper from the time my water breaks until I'm about two weeks postpartum. When i leave in wearing a flowy dress, or loose fitting matching shorts and top. Also here is a great tip on something to give new parents or just to do yourself, the big tube of mini m&ms will fit $10 in quarters, and that's super handy for late-night vending machine rades. Lol

Agree with all of this. I brought real pajamas, a nursing dress to wear home, a travel sound machine, my own pillow, two swaddles (she pooped all over one so I was glad to have the other), and basic toiletries. When I was hardcore nesting I also gathered up lots of snacks for us and it was amazing. Also, if your partner has sleep apnea, bring their cpap. The bench bed is already rough to sleep on, don’t make it worse by not breathing yall.

Sounds about right. I didn't bring a nightlight or sound machine but used my phone - and because a hospital room is never pitch black, I didn't need additional lights for nighttime changes or feeding. But I've had plenty of people speak to how nice it is to have a nightlight that you ask your nurse to use for nighttime checks. I think the only other thing I brought was my breastfeeding pillow, My Brest Friend. Not totally necessary, but I really liked it for middle-of-the-night feeds. And TMI, but I also brought senna tablets to help with the postpartum poops. I tore a little bit, so it was a bit unnerving to imagine having to push hard again down there without a stool softener

I love how chill you are about it. I had planned c-sections both times, doctor said my birth canal was not big enough 🤷‍♀️. Anyway, I recommend the Fridamom undies, they make a big difference in comfort around the c-section area. (For other new moms) If there's a chance you're having a c-section, also don't plan on wearing pants. It's a lot more hip- moving motion to get those on that you're not going to be strong enough for first day after. Get a postpartum nightgown.

I'm about to have my third baby - second scheduled c-section. It was discovered, only after I birthed my oldest after being in labor for 96 hours 💀 that my pelvis is narrow and makes vaginal delivery difficult and dangerous. My OB never caught it. When I was pregnant with my middle I switched OBs and he figured it out at my second appointment. With my daughter, I was in labor for 4 dayssss. Sent home from hospital twice, was given no intervention or relief even though I was begging for mercy, and was so exhausted by the time I had to push that my daughter went into distress and ended up in NICU for 6 weeks because of complications. Anyway, I haven't tried the Frida mom undies, I was planning on bringing the Always Discreet adult diapers (I've heard those are good for c-section mammas too).

I saw your previous what to pack video before I had my baby in Feb. I had most of what you had listed with my first 2 but I bought the little light you have here. I have to say that I have LOVED this little light. It has been so helpful for feedings or if baby is napping and I need to get something from the room. I was glad to have it at the hospital too. Also, I took an eye mask this last time and wish I'd brought it with my first 2 babies. It made a huge difference for me since the hallway lights seem so bright even with the room door closed. Thanks for your videos, I always feel like I learn something new from them.

Honestly your video from last year was my BIBLE when I packed my back for our first baby being due! I packed just right. I will say I packed the always discreet diapers to change into and I wore them the whole second day at the hospital because the hospital provided mesh undies were awful and I felt like I was going to leak everywhere. Shower shoes were a must and I cannot second the fan more than enough! Also if you’re planning on formula feeding/bottle feeding I recommend bringing the bottles you intend to use at home to make sure that baby can handle the flow ❤❤

I have 6 babies and every birth was scary to me. I will advise you this… tell yourself that your body was made for this. Every contraction you feel do not tense your body up, breath through it and push a little as you do. When body feels pain our natural instinct is to get away from the pain. But for some reason it felt like the pain was worse when I’d tense up. It’s all about your breathing. Take some essential oils like lavender. My mom kept rubbing me with lavender and it calmed my nerves a lot. I also had my last without an epidural so the breathing REALLY helped. Oh and if you feel like standing or getting on your knees…. Do it! Do not let them make you lie down. I stood up pretty much the whole time bc it took so much pressure off my back. It felt so much better for me standing. I actually almost had my baby standing up lol. Very last minute I laid down and pushed twice and she was out lol. Good luck

@@mua_dovie First of all, congratulations on your first baby! Second, it's 1000% normal to be afraid of labor. You've never done it before. You have no idea what to expect. No amount of planning and research prepares you for whatever experience you're going to have. I've had 4 babies in 4 years and I've had very different experiences every single time. Make sure you trust your doctor and your medical team. Along with trusting your Dr and your medical team, make sure you're able to advocate for yourself or make sure your partner is capable of stepping in to advocate for you when you're unable. Go into it with a few things you hope happen (or don't happen) and make sure your team is aware of them. And just know, your birth experience is exactly what it should be. Trust yourself, trust your body, and trust your medical team. You're stronger than you think. You will have a uniquely beautiful birth and it will be all your own. Best of luck to you and your baby girl. ❤️

If induced for some reason, I suggest getting an epidural. Getting induced can take a while. Also, you can ask to pause pitocin, if induced with that, to see if your body takes over since it has been kick started.
@samcobb1353
@samcobb1353 2 ай бұрын
@@yeliah9968 I've had pitocin 3 out of 4 births including once without an epidural. I had to get pitocin twice because my body stalled once I was already in labor. My 2 longest births were 18 hours start to finish which is considered fast for being induced. Every single birthing experience is different. Just remembering to advocate for yourself or have a support person who is able to advocate for you as well as a medical team you trust makes all the difference. Simply trusting yourself and your body changes the mental game that goes with labor. To each their own.

I do home births so I have to put all of my stuff aside (typically in the moses basket baby will sleep in a few days after birth) I have to set a side very similar items as well as the towels and extra bed sheets that my midwives change and wash for me and husband before they leave. I absolutely love being in my own bed in my own space and if I forget or decide I want anything it's somewhere nearby. Plus you can eat through labor which helped me every single time (3 in the last three years) drinking raw milk and eating organic apples and raw honey and other super healthy high energy foods!

Wow, that’s a lot! But, well, I’m european so I only take minimal amount of things, they fit into my backpack plus some extra diapers for myself, haha.

The same happened with my son! We were totally unprepared and his dad had to run to the shops to buy him 5x0 onesies. Those 5x0 onesies were still too big 🥹

Have the baby at home in the tub. Wayyyy more comfortable, convenient, calming, and relaxing!

Hospital birth was traumatizing for me. Maybe it wasn’t my luck to have a good doctor/nurse. Hopefully my second would be home birth (if I ever had one). ❤

@@selinee13 Right, but it's more dangerous @ home than in a hospital. Yours is not the best advice to give.

Yup, birth is a celebration of life! I've set up for a home water birth. But baby got stuck, and I went to hospital only when needed the help. If I will be pregnant again, I'll do the home water birth again! Also hospital and staff are overloaded, so why go if you are fine. I feel it takes the space etc away for the mamas who truly need it and need to stay longer but can't because too full....🤷🏼‍♀️

Do all your deliveries go well? Any hemorrhaging? Must have went smoothly if you have that many kids!
@abbirussell4310

Not necessarily. My first I had some hemorrhaging, my second I lost half my blood and my third I lost slightly less than my second but more than my first. All three kids are under three years old right now. Every single time I was perfectly fine and just needed hydrated and rest, no blood transfusions or anything.
