Great video and lots of excellent information. Not sure if you're aware of an experiment that was done years ago involving The Stimp Meter and a dozen golf balls. Forget who did it but the takeaway was that this person took a dozen identical balls, placed them exactly on the same start point of The Stimp Meter and let them roll out. What we saw was something we didn't expect. The balls DID NOT STOP in the same place. It wasn't really even close. The group was somewhere around an 18" diameter circle. This confirmed the fact that a golfer could hit a perfect putt and still not make it. There is some "random luck" involved. Was it a particular blade of grass? A little tiny bump? We never found out. All we knew was that PUTTING, like golf does involve luck. My own thoughts are "THAT IS WHAT MAKES THE GAME SO MUCH FUN". Really good video, bro'. I will let my students know about this one.

So true, there are always going to be imperfections on the greens causing the ball to roll differently, guess it shows just how tough putting is 😁

I do the ladder drill a bit differently when warming up at a golf course. I drop three balls at three different distances in a line and then putt to the same hole. Same idea to get a handle on the green speed but also get to see effect of break over the distance. Good advice about pace control and club head acceleration, I'm definitely guilty of accelerating the club head, especially on longer putts. Thanks for the tips!

Excellent lesson again Chris, thank you. Something I’ve learnt to help me with the knee knocker 1mtr putts, and longer sometimes, and that is to look at the hole when hitting the putt. I line up the face of the putter then look at the hole and pull the trigger and my results have been very good and no more knocking knees. The principal is that if you were given a ball to roll towards the hole with your hand, then you don’t look at you hand, you always look at the hole! The other thing that you didn’t mention but interested in, flag in or out? A lot of studies have conclusively shown in for best results but for me and my short putts I still take it out. Your coaching here is really appreciated and thank you!

Thanks so much and I’m pretty sure Jordan Spieth had a phase of looking at the hole when putting, definitely something I think people should try Personally I’m a flat out for shorter putts, but have seen studies arguing both ways so who knows

Hi Chris what putter(s) do you use / recommend?

Hi Chris. Some good drills there which I will be trying out. One issue, that I suspect many of us have, is that judging how hard to hit the ball on a given putt is much more difficult than just hitting one ball slightly harder than the previous ball (your first drill). Any ideas/tips to help with that?

Walk from you ball to the hole to have a better perception. Then, the best way is of course to count feet\meters. With the tee drill, if you do it always with the same speed, you will know how far you send it on a normal speed green. That's your standard measure. Then do 20% more and 20% less of that, and see how long you send it. There you have 3 good measures. Keep it going like that and you will know how far your backswing needs to go, for a tot measure. Then you need to adjust on the green speed of the course you play on. Practice a bit before the match, and judge green speed from 1 to 5. Then adjust and link both things!

Once again, an absolute home run Chris.Great video and A1 content. I have personnally trained pace, alignment and green reading the exact same way, with amazing results over the process of months. I personnaly use a projection laser to "write" my initial line, and place the gate a good 1m away from the ball so that i'm sure that i hit it on line. I cannot wait for your "the only lesson you will ever need" for driving, iron, chipping and pitching. These videos would litterally win the internet.

I really suggest you to erase this bad habit of looking at the hole while putting. Trust me friend, there is a reason why never in history there was a good golf player that looked at the hole while putting. It's absolutely inconsistent and mostly luck based. Your example of rolling a ball with hands is not valid simply because there is no impact at all in that movement.
