$65 for 1kg of resin is still 3 times what I've been paying for Sunlu ABS Like (which I regularly find 2kg bottles on amazon for $40). Dialing in a resin is a one time cost. Once you've got it dialed in, you don't have to spend more time on it with every new bottle. I think your position as a reviewer of these machines (and resins) where you're always having to dial stuff in skews your perception of what most people who print to supply their hobby (instead of printing as a hobby), which is find one or two resins they like, dial them in once, and never have to bother with it again. Over time, the extra cost HeyGears resins (and the single point of failure if HeyGears makes changes you don't like) is just far more expensive than a couple days spent dialing in a new resin that is likely to be the only resin you use.

@@mrfoameruk For me and the easy integration? Yes. I engineer parts with different properties and would probably swap around within the ecosystem. There's also a guarantee here that if they change the formula it'll just work. There are tons of examples on r/resinprinting of people buying the exact same resin, same brand, and having to tweak their settings. Or settings differing from machine to machine. Now whether that's due to environmental factors, inconsistency in resin production or inconsistency in machine production I have no clue. But obviously with this pricetag the expectation is that consistency will be exact. It's the difference of going with a company that entered a more hobbyist price point from professional and those that chase bottom budget and came from FDM or other budget printers. Heygears support is also supposedly phenomenal. As a side there's also been videos of people using other resin brands in these printers by simply filling the vat, so that's always another option if mass producing more budget prints with a resin that works at the same settings is available.

But comparing HeyGears to Elegoo's offerings, I feel like HeyGears has priced themselves above the prosumer market and into the lowest end of the enterprise market.

Trust me - as someone who has owned just about every big brand and many of the more niche ones in all different sizes - it's not even in the same galaxy as EVERY single other consumer resin printer on the market. Quality of hardware, quality of prints, ease of use, how good the slicer is... I have the pulsing release module and it allows you to make your support contacts so unbelievably small that minis not only look the best of any printer I've ever used - there is next to no clean up. It's just that good.
@LayerZeroDesign4 ай бұрын
The only downside is I wish the plate was bigger & the resins were cheaper but heygears new prototype resin is $45/KG and it's just as good as their $60/KG mini specific resin imo and they're both some of the best miniature resins I've used on the market. Super high detail and yet more durable and flexible than most ABS likes. Also after dealing with companies like Phrozen and elegoo my jaw almost dropped when I first got my reflex and 50 micron wasn't an option for some reason with the miniature resin (PAP10). I submitted a ticket right through the slicer and had a message back AND it was fixed in the slicer with an update in less than 2 HOURS. After years of dealing with most of the consumer resin printer companies I simply forgot that customer service and a company that appreciates you even AFTER you bought their product could exist. It is hands down the best printer you can buy right now. Sure, it's expensive. But if you have the money you won't regret pulling the trigger. The only downside is you'll never be able to go back to the slop we've been fed from all the "competitors". Ps - you can go back to faux hammers first video on this printer and find a comment from me bashing the crap out of it. So there is a huge difference for sure. The Formlabs resin for the Form4 is $99 per liter = ouchie. HeyGears resin for pac10 is about $45. So I think Formlabs just priced themselves out of the hobby printing market twice over; one on the printer itself and two, with the overpriced resin. I just think it would be interesting to see how many things, say minis for example, can be printed using a single bottle of resin. Kind of like, how many orcs are in a bottle of resin? You know? Just looking at their website, $2389 for the printer, the wash station, and the cure cupboard isn't too bad, considering what this thing will do. Of course I don't expect it to be anything more than a bog standard printer woth a 3rd party resin, but having the option is nice. Otherwise you have to trust the company will outlive the printer, won't use their leverage to raise prices, and will continue to provide product and service for your specific usecase. Whereas if I can use and tweak the printer like a regular one with 3rd party resin, suddenly I've got an amazing tool that doesn't become useless or harder to use than a typical resin printer if something happens to the proprietary resin supply. Options reduce risk, and the risk is scary, whether it's a realistic risk or not.

If printing work is carried out for 8 hours every day, the expected lifespan of the LCD screen is approximately 3 to 6 months. Given the sluice and autofill, how is cleaning the machine? Any insight on warranty and replacement part costs/intervals vs. others? Consensus seems to be that the auto support features of the software are excellent, but how are the tools for hollowing and drainage? And finally, while the curing station is nice it is absurdly expensive and the wash station is problematic, what curing and washing stations would you recommend that will easily work with this build plate and area?

I agree we need a software advancement in resin printers the most, but for me that mainly means an adaptive/learning AI autosupport and calibration system that works for all resins. I'd wager it's mostly due to how most people's needs are non-commercial and so this just totally misaligns with most of the viewerbase making it easy to talk shit. I can see if this printer is essentially a tool or business expense then it's a no brainer and I'd love to try it. But are most casual users truly going to see (or care) about the differences in print quality when then are admittedly some cons with being locked in to proprietry resin?
@LayerZeroDesign4 ай бұрын
@@N0Sdog yeah I get all of that, but you're not REALLY locked out of 3rd party resins. I mean if heygears really wanted to just take over the consumer market they'd open their slicer up with a manual mode for people that want to tweak & for 3rd party resins and let people CHOOSE their resins because they're great but as it stands you can use 3rd parties you just have to hope one of the available profiles works with the resin you want to use. If we keep pressing them, maybe it can happen but the whole philosophy of this package is "control all the variables for the best possible prints with the most successes and easiest workflow" and 3rd party resins are a massive variable that fly in the face of that. I'm not going to hold my breath but I'm still in love with it. And yeah, print quality is the best of any printer I've ever used or owned, but I would argue that's not even on the top half of the list of why it's so good. It's just icing on the cake.

All you're getting for the high price tag is a printer that's locked to specific presets. Bambu price their machines very reasonably along with the smart calibration features, which is what has made them so successful. Also... I am in a weird position right now. If everything goes well, I will have my own 3D design/printing studio late 2024-early 2025. I'd love to have an iPad for my designs but this depends on how well Zbrush will perform on iPad (we will know this fall apparently). The Heygears slicer is the only one that has an iOS version which would makes it perfect for me, especially if I get an iPad..... But the fact that you can't use other resins is what makes me to hesitate and probably go for the Saturn 4 Ultra. Yes I know, you can use other resins with Reflex but you have to guess which presets to choose and hope that they match the resin you use..... Not to mention that their miniatures resin is way too brittle compared to other brands. It is a great machine but the closed ecosystem and its price is a deal breaker for now. Especially when the Saturn 4 Ultra can print the same quality (at least with the naked eye) but faster. Not to mention the extra bureaucracy for those who live in countries they don't ship to by default. Great machine yes, but their policy will probably keep it from reaching its full potential.

Personally I found Nomad sculpt is an ok alternative on iPad. But I do not know your preferences and requirements. Did you try Nomad Sculpt?

Nomad Sculpt is fine but nowhere near the level of zbrush (even in how the software handles multi-million meshes). Even Blender, which in some aspects is ahead of its time, can't reach zbrush when it comes to sculpting. But I hope Nomad keeps improving in the future.

As a user I want drag and drop like end to end experience. But its still a long way to go. models, supports slicer and printers aren’t at this point yet.

Actually, this one kinda is

Even with your code it’s still way more than its competition and for not much extra if any in my mind but I could be missing something?

Yeah maybe I did t explain it right as I’ve already covered the printer in more detail in the 40 minute review I referenced There’s a lot to this..

@@FauxHammercurious though. How does Wargamers resin work in this? I’m assuming you’ve tried and it’s what I use (and I love it.) Obviously I expect it to not be perfect but how close to ideal is it, if at all?
