High end Seiko is worth a try. I have a $2,800 SLA075 and it likely makes me the happiest of any watch I have ever had. I was real happy when I bought a Sea-Dweller new from my AD, but I might get more giddy over the Seiko. I was rotating the Seiko a lot with my Black Bay 58 blue, but my BB hasn’t seen my wrist in about a week because of this Seiko.

I've had one for 2 years and I'm happy with it. The Grand Seiko finish is incredible (interior/exterior). The accuracy of the caliber is +1 s/d and, for those who made the effort to open the case, it is decorated. The bezel is perfectly aligned ;-) (it is not ceramic but titanium carbonate, as beautiful but more solid). The only fault I find with it is that at the purchase price, selling it with two rubber straps (of very good quality) is just small on the part of Seiko. It is an exceptional watch and those who criticize the price are not aware of the materials used and the manufacturing quality of this watch (Grand Seiko) P.S.: sorry for my English

Congrats on the acquisition, and top-quality programming as per the usual. Although I do fantasize about trimming my collection down to a smaller handful of extra meaningful pieces, one underappreciated advantage of having a larger collection is learning to appreciate the individual quirks of distinct models. Once you let go of the lens that wants to filter every watch as super versatile, if not a bit boring at times, all-things/perfect one-watch type of idea, you can truly appreciate so many more watches for the unique and imperfect pieces they are, cheers!

I just bought the SPB147 (cappuccino dial) a few months ago and I absolutely love it, fits perfect on my 6.75" wrist. Removed the strap due to it's bulky hardware, replaced with an fkm black rubber from Dryden Watches. It has a ~70 power reserve, purchased new from local AD at under $900. I got lucky with this deal, but this watch is an absolute comfortable stunner that I highly, highly recommend. Great video, brother!

There are two absolutely amazing things about this watch. The first is Ever Brilliant Steel, the watch stays brand new year after year after year without a single scratch. The second thing is the movement 8L, no matter in which position you turn the watch, the movement always works the same without any variations in seconds per day.

Overall I think it’s a beautiful timepiece but it certainly does have its detractors. The misaligned bezel/dial, the seconds hand, the 19mm lug width, and the retail price. If a pre-owned one could be found at a much more reasonable price, I’d be willing to consider it. Excellent video as always! Very well done 🥃

Congratulations on the great Seiko Diver. Yes, Seiko really pays for them I also wanted to see what's behind it and bought the 62mas SJE093J1. It is small but on the arm (similar to the Black bay 54) it is simply convincing. A lot of money, but still a great watch. Certainly one or two steps above the normal Seikos in terms of workmanship and feel. Mine is also a Keeper

To me, Seiko is a wonderful proposition at the $300-$500 price range. I just bought a regular turtle (srpe93) last week, and I absolutely love it on an army green NATO. I don’t know that I could spend much more than that on a Seiko and be as happy.

Actially the first time Seiko dipped their toes into reissuing vintage models was in 2000 with theor famous 2000 reissues collections. i am surprised it took them almost two decades to realise that there is a big cow to milk with huge potential in their heritage models. Now they are unstoppable… probably they will keep on reissuing until 2078 when they will reissues 2024 reissues

It’s an absolute beauty worth the money I don’t care what anyone says, the finish is as good as any other diver you can buy for £8k or under - just a bit too big and tall for my wrist so I sold it when the the 093 came out and got that! THE perfect 62MAS reissue! I also owned the sla033 which was definitely too big if you are on the border with the 043.

Why all the comments about it being overpriced? It's a hand-made watch with a hand-built, in-house movement (by Grand Seiko, no less), a hand-finished case made from a unique alloy, has loads of history, and it's from a brand with impeccable heritage to boot...Comparatively, it seems like a bargain compared to Omega, Rolex, Breitling and others who are charging thousands more for mass-produced watches built by robots that have the same specs and equal (at best) dial and case finishing. Just seeing it next to that similarly-priced Tudor, which looks downright industrial by comparison says everything about the care that went into the Seiko. Looks like a great deal if you're buying a high-quality luxury watch, but maybe not if you're buying a logo and a marketing campaign.

No bracelet, no problem. My favorite straps for this watch has been a Artem sailcloth for summer and a Strap tailor Japanese veg tanned leather for the colder months here in Colorado. I also put the original tang buckles on these straps so it looks killer.

Just bought the SRPH77 (mini Tuna) and was really surprised when you mentioned this 62MAS has a misaligned bezel...this $350-$500 Tuna has a perfectly aligned bezel strangely enough. I guess it just goes to show that Seiko doesn't guarantee that an over $2500 model will have flawless QC. Also, was surprised to hear about the rigidity of those rubber straps. Funny enough, the rubber strap on the srph77 is very smooth...how counterintuitive from Seiko. In any case, the watch itself is truly beautiful and your choice of pairing it with the bracelet is very good. Excellent video! Was really happy for your that Teddy showcased you in his clip. In terms of dimensions, this watch is perfect, right up to the 14mm thickness. This is one of Seiko's downfalls--they make beautiful watches that can tend to bobble on the wrist due to case height (think Alpinist and SKX specifically). It would be fantastic if Seiko would utilize a fraction of their enormous profit towards developing thinner and more accurate movements that would compete directly with Miyota's 9 series.

I really love this watch but ended up going with the SLA055 and SLA057 which I think are a little better finished with the hour marker details and capped second hand. The 20mm lug size is also better for strap options, but for die hard 62MAS lovers I think this is the best one imo.

The big issue here is that the 62MAS is a Blancpain bathyscape homage; the 62 MAS is also the most Swiss Seiko watch you will ever find, this happened due to winning the bid for the 1964 Tokyo summer Olympics, Seiko simply had no time to spend creating a new design for their first diver... so they went for the homage route. A few years later they finally came around with their own designs (in 1967 they presented the 6215 -7000 replaced quickly by 6159-7000 -> today's -> SLA021 OR the 1968's model 6105-8000 -> todays -> SPB333J1 which was the true replacement of the 62MAS) all these watches (Vintage OR remakes) are the TRUE ONLY Seikos you will ever need; thanks for creating content man.

You should review the Baltic Aquascaphe and maybe do a comparison with the 62MAS. Similar dimensions, similar domed crystal, similar coin-edge bezel, 28,800 bph Japanese movement, but more vintage-looking and WAY more affordable.

I got mine about 3 years ago preowned for under £ 2.4 k. The watch cost just over £4k new. Decent preowned ones now cost about the same as i paid for mine . So its kept its preowned value at least. That said i doubt it would be easy to sell as people think 2.5k for a seiko is just silly. Untill you get one and realise what a beautiful watch it truely is. Imo the 043 is the best reissue of the 62mas. Yes i realise the high beat movement 037 is technically the best, but that was 2k more at list price. The latest release is nice , but too small for most men at 37mm, and doesnt have the everbrilliant steel either. The 017 did come with a bracelet though , and it would have been nice if all the slas had one too. But all the sla 62mas watches are beautiful in their own ways , and if your a seiko fan , then it doesn't get much better than this .

I cant remember which bracelet I used but I bought a seiko bracelet like 7 years ago for a project. I think it was one of the SPB diver bracelets. Anyways I ground down the endlinks and it fits the SLA037 pretty dam near perfectly. It balances the watch pretty well and makes it alot more comfortable on wrist. Not that it isnt a comfortable watch to begin with

Anyone who says it’s too expensive doesn’t know what’s up . Its the iconic 62mas case design in every-brilliant steel , with a rebranded grand seiko movement 8L35 is an absolute workhorse of a movement , made and finished in the grand seiko studio to the same high standards as GS , brilliant zaratsu finished case and hour markers with absolutely no dust under the sapphire crystal . It’s honestly a bargain at that price! Just get a tudor at that price under a macro lens or microscope you cam see how fucking bad it is with so many dust particles under the sapphire, the ugly and badly finished hands and hours markers either such rough edges and the kenissi movements that they don’t even bother to service and just replace it during service. If you take all that into account the Seiko looks like a fuckin bargain tbh!,

As a former owner of the SLA017… after seeing the multitude of reissues launched since 2017 that diluted the essence of the 62mas (probably diluted from all the milk Seiko miked from the vintage Seiko cow) … what I can say is that I regret AF selling my 017 (which btw, did have a bracelet - ugly and cheap looking AF but it had a bracelet…).

I have the sla037 that cost 6300 and i still need to pay to have it regulated, it’s 20 sec fast a day with the high beat movement, other than that it’s a great watch.

You can regulate the movement easy. It will still have some positional variance which is odd for a highbeat movement. After having mine regulated it has been +/- 2 sec on wrist per day. Makes it lesss disappointing but the accuracy from factory sucked.

They are very different, Uemura has it's own thing, it is bigger and more elegant. As design and looks, I'd lean more towards Uemura than the SLA033 as an example.

I own the SLA025, SLA033, and SLA037. I think the SLA025 is the most beautiful and legible of the three, but is a bit too thick. The SLA037 is the most comfortable, acceptably thick, falls in the middle on beauty, and is a step down on legibility. The SLA033 kind of falls in between on everything and gets lost in the collection. Its not the most beautiful, legible, or comfortable but does a well enough job at each category to be acceptable. To me, it doesn't stand out and my desire to wear it just isn't there as a result. These are all subjective things however. It makes a great all around watch and would be a perfect watch for a single watch collection. As a matter of fact, the Willard had the best build quality of my three SLA watches. It was the only watch to have a perfectly aligned bezel, and it was the only one with decent timekeeping from factory. It ran at =/-4 seconds per a day consistently. It also has that unique Seiko charm in its scalloped case design, something you wont get from other brands. It also takes strap changes the best between the three SLA watches, looking good on a nato or rubber. You will have to accept that it doesn't have a bracelet option though. This would be something major to consider if you get one! The SLA049 Uemera does have a bracelet which really changes things up.

I dont think these are priced to high. I have the MM300 SLA021 and its an expenssive Seiko. There is many differences in the price brackets that the eye cannot see.

Depends, if you’re a comparison / Spec client then I agree, its price is aspirational. But this SLA043 along with all the other SLA/SJE limited reissues are aimed at the taste clientele and that is where the product differentiates itself. I love the use of EverBrilliant steel because none have the SuperHard coating which means the watch can be polished back to new condition whenever it goes in for service. On that note, Seiko needs to stop using that outdated Diashield coating thats inferior to the competitors, still scratches rather easily and makes refinishing impossible.

Buying a Seiko is similar to buying a vintage car. Soothing to stare at but not always working as good as it looks. One question, how much does it cost to buy a Seiko with a no slop bezel? No one knows.

No doubt a beautiful watch but not having an aligned bezel pip with marker at this price point is just lazy from seiko . I can forgive them for this with an entry level seiko 5 but come on….usually you could say it is probably a one off but this is way too common .

Anyone can make 2 watches and attach the words "Limited edition". This doesn't make the watch more valuable in my book. I find myself ignoring the Seiko brand more and more due to their ridiculous pricing. I don't think you can make your brand a luxury brand just because you have high pricing.
