Furthermore the Uyghur people have been demanding independence for decades, sometimes escalating to riots as you mention, but had they been fighting against a smaller power than China, they would certainly have declared independence successfully. The Uyghur population in China is estimated to be around 12 million, around the same as Bolivia or Belgium. Geographically and geopolitically, they are in pretty much the worst place they could choose to be. The riots are insignificant. They are voiceless.

I remember reading about the Uighur persecution a few years back and I wanted to do what little I could to support them knowing that many Uighurs in the States have relatives over there. I actually ended up finding this restaurant, Silk Road, and went there with friends for my birthday. I'd recommend anyone who can make the trip try this place. Currently we're in a semi-lockdown, boarders are open (except for South Africa and South America) but the official advice is not to come unless it's important. (We are not equipped to battle the South African and South American type. That's why the boarders are closed to those places.) Non essential shops are closed for public, you can order online and pickup but not freely shop or dine. Everybody who can are working from home. No social events, we are allowed to receive one guest per day. Masks are mandatory inside of shops, public transport etc. Washing/sanitizing hands. Universities are closed (online studying), lower education is open with limited accese to the school building and they also study online. Curfew from 21:00/05:00. You need a good reason to be outside past curfew. (Normal)Covid is going down but the British type is still high. Yes, we are currently battling 2 types of covid. The majority is still abiding by the rules set by our government but public opinion is swaying. Covid vaccinations have started but it's a slow process. How is your country handling this pandemic?

I am Chinese. I hate how CCP is treating Uyghur people. But I doubt the claim that advertising halal food is prohibited in Xinjiang. Halal restaurants are common and popular even in Beijing and Shanghai. How can they be prohibited where many Muslims reside??

Uighur food is AMAZING. For anyone thinking of going Tohu Qorumisi and spice lamb skewers are the best! There are two Uigher restaurants in Melbourne that I go to all the time and they are sooo delicious. (Dolan Uyghur Food Heaven and Master Ma Kitchen)
