Yes, Britney! Please make a whole video on cathedral hands. I adore cathedral hands on my watches! Cathedral hands and firing fingers ;) Hamilton straps are really the house's weak point. I hated my Khaki Field until I put it on a Nato strap. Thank you for sharing.

I just ordered a replacement black alligator strap for the watch. The strap that comes with the watch is very hard to buckle.
@monochromios14 күн бұрын
@ottokonrad6260 it is very annoying. My Brown PVD Khaki Mechanical came with a "leather" Nato that looked like a Swatch bracelet, more plastic than leather. The Khaki Automatic I bought many years ago came with a very poorly made bracelet, I could not use it. A good strap/bracelet makes a good watch. I love the Murph, but knowing I have to buy add to the cost a third party bracelet stops me from buying it. Details count

I love my Murph! Coming from using a Garmin Fenix 6X (Huge 51mm), I initially was a little taken aback by the 38mm Hamilton. I thought it was way too small. Thank God I asked my brilliant and wise wife what her thoughts were and she said it looked great on my 6.5 inch wrist. I'm glad I listened to her. Everytime I look at it, I smile. It's my first "serious" watch purchase. Some bash Hamilton and claim their watches to be "overrated!" To each his own. I bought the watch because I thought it was beautiful and a great start for me. Thanks Britney! Love your videos!

Totally agree with you on the watch straps being important, especially if it's a metal bracelet. Omega really let themselves down with their sharp, uncomfortable bracelets and its one of the reasons Rolex feels a tier above them on the wrist. I use the analogy of watches being like Sandwiches (bear with me!). People focus so much on the filling in a sandwich (the watch) and forget about the bread (the bracelet). The bread is like 80% of the sandwich and is just as inporant as the filling. A sandwich can be ruined by bad cheap bread. The same with a bracelet - it can ruin the wearing experience of a great watch as it's 80% of how it feels on the wrist.

I see the murph as a field watch. It reminds me of my equally gorgeous Maopin and Webb Campaign small seconds, with over 100 years of history. The Campaign is now 40mm, (smaller in the past) but looks smaller. One of my favourite watches. Your Murph looks great on you, Britt, especially the way you are wearing your shirt. 😂

I have never seen Interstellar (I know I should). I am just bringing it up because I really like the Murph in spite of the movie tie in. It is a solid dressy field watch. Not in the same league as the Explorer, but it is the niche.
@ottokonrad626014 күн бұрын
The Murph has a childlike quality. And right on point, the Interstellar prop watch was gifted in the film by Matthew McConaughey to his 8 year oldish daughter (as her first watch but also for more fundamental purposes revealed later in the film) before he heads off on his space mission. The design for the movie was spot on for the story telling and the characters. I think the real life version introduced in 2019 was originally intended as a replica for the same movie nerds who have Iron Giant models on their mantels (ahum), but the subtle quirkiness of the watch must speak to a lot more people than Interstellar movie nerds.

I have the OG 42mm Murph in my collection, and will agree with your use/wear case description 100 percent. I would say it's a tool watch in the same vein as a Rolex Explorer or Tudor Ranger, in that the Murph is a little too nice for going out to do yard work but the design language definitely says field watch. My Murph doesn't get much wear time in the summer as I feel the black leather strap is better suited for the clothes I wear during cooler weather. I am glad I have it though, and hope to get a Cooper to go along with it as Interstellar is one of my favorite movies.

Hi Britney, I rarely comment on YT, but I have to say that I would be delighted by an episode dedicated to cathedral hands ! And thank you for this review, this murph really is a great offering for the pricepoint. For the caliber, the H-10 is based off the caliber C07.611 which is a variant of the powermatic 80 with a regular escapement (C07.111 has the "synthetic" escapement and the C07.811 has a silicon hairspring), the powermatic 80 itself being based off the renowned ETA 2824-2.

Love the review and approach. I got this very same watch as an anniversary gift and it has unequivocally been on my wrist nonstop. I think you articulate its versatility very well. so many thoughts: 1. my strap complaint: 100m water resistance on a leather strap. Leather does not have 100m water resistance. I wish more watches would synchronize this. 2. I don't really like the regular Hamilton Khaki. I'm not a huge Interstellar fan. But I LOVE the Murph. 3. Ever since the story about the friend who stopped golfing with his Patek Philippe, I've decided that maybe I should just stick with quartz. I'm too reckless, clumsy, and awkward for mechanical movements. BUT..... this would probably be one of 2 or 3 automatic movements that I would buy.

I would own so many Hamilton watches if only they had better AR coating.. Unfortunately the Murph suffers from the same issue a lot of Hamiltons do: seeing your own face before you can see the time. There are exceptions such as the Khaki Aviation Pilot Pioneer and the Intra-Matic Auto Chrono but for me, this is something Hamilton really needs to improve upon.

Yeah I wasn't hugely impressed with the stock strap, but I swap straps all the time anyway. I agree that watches should come with something decent, but personally I knew I wanted it on a nice black shell cordovan strap anyway and I doubt Hamilton would include that. Overall I love the watch and I completely agree on its versatility.

Strap. Agreed, if someone buys a watch and changes the strap straight away, they either didn't like the watch in the first place or have seen too many promotional videos for 'my own brand nato strap'. The strap is part of the watch design, you wouldn't buy a car and start changing the body panels to make it look 'better'. 😂

Hamilton are definitely one of the better value for money brands out there (together under the same roof as Tissot, and maybe Alpina and a few others outside the Swatch group that do not have the Hamilton history to boast)!! I do have a few comments however (nitpicky, yes): 1. The Khaki has a very clear category it belongs to and you do not have to invent one for him - it is the military/ Pilot's watch. Besides of course building on Hamilton's own glory of supplying somewhat similar watches to the military, navy and Airforce until (I think) the Vietnam war, the lone of watches harkens back to a very particular and historically fascinating line of timepieces produced by various suppliers to military forces' specifications. IWC, JLC, Omega, Laco and a few others (heard of the "dirty dozen"?) were among these ranks. The Murph design took some of these classic elements with the cathedral hands that adorned early pilot's watches pre- WW2 and of course - got a lot of love for that. 2. You have not mentioned any downside of this watch, which does indeed make your cool review feel a little bit sponsored even if it is not - so let me offer you what I hear might be a downside: The movement is actually a version used in most SWATCH group's entry level models - Tissot, Hamilton and some Mido as well - it is basically an ETA 2824-2 with a larger mainspring, and a slowed down balance - to allow the impressive power reserve. I have heard that these aspects make the movement harder to service and make us the buyers, in the long run dependent solely on authorized service centres since independent watchmakers will have hard time finding tools and parts specific for this version, unlike its older sister the 2824 and 2824-2. Is that a real problem? I guess we will have to wait a few years for these movement to get older and need service - to find out.

Maybe do a vid on watch hands in general? I _love _cathedral hands. I used to collect early wristwatches and still have and wear a few(mostly from WW1) and they usually came with those hands. I suspect because they were the best design of the time to hold the new fangled radium lume. A tweak of the existing spade style with gaps for lume. I've no idea where they got the name, but I always thought it was because they kinda looked like stained glass windows you'd see in cathedrals. The Murph is a great watch imho and the white dial version is reminiscent of those WW1 "trench watches" with their enamel dials and open numerals filled with radium. Funny enough though I love cathedral hands, the quite similar Mercedes hands make my teeth itch. Can't abide them. No accounting for taste I suppose. 😄
