Maybe someday I'll go all the way back to 1860, but the loading gate and fore end are such vast improvements on the '66 and '73 I don't know if I can go without. Great video, as always, Karl. I have an Uberti 1860 44/40 Engraved (not laser) with no date on it with correct period Engraved. Think very early Uberti. Well, I was cleaning the internal toggle (I fire blanks and real Black powder rounds) and I dropped one of the cover plates. I was wearing shorts… well, 1 hour later, I finished cleaning and notice a nice LONG GASH on my foot and some blood. It is now stinging after 2 hours. Well, it is darn sharp!! I am in a Civil War Reenactment club (ACWA of California). I do not fire the rifle in battle but do a rapid fire test of 14 rounds in 9 seconds…….Smokeless rounds have less kick and flatter profile … only drop at 100 yards.

This is the absolute best instructional video I have ever seen on the 1860 Henry. I have an Uberti Case Hardened model in 44-40. Mine doesn't have the lever lock though. The speed loading tube is a great idea. Reminds me of the Blakely? tube that is for my Spencer. I most like the mag spacer idea so you don't need to worry about the follower contacting your hand during rapid fire. Never thought of that but it's genius.

A very well presented "Henry Manual - of - Arms"! For my sling, I made a copy of the original from scrap leather, a brass buckle, and a Winchester-type hook ( exactly like your image ). I also attached a 3/4" brass ring on the barrel sling staple, in order to keep the steel hook from marring the staple. I went with the Winchester-type hook because I couldn't find a brass / bronze hook. To prevent the hook from popping off, I pinched it, so that it would just snap over the 3/4" brass ring; it has never popped off, and requires a little force to remove.

Several of my friends and associates have long term interest in the Civil War and this specific weapon is a topic of conversation wherever and whenever they meet. When the opportunity arises I will force them to watch it (until they realize how very apropos it is and push me out of the way). And-wow! You hand loaded that rifle from a cartridge belt faster than a rifled musketeer can recharge his weapon a single time! That's the same level of combat innovation that the SMG brought to WW2-one requiring a complete reformulation of small formation infantry tactics.

Very good info on Henry Rifle Use. Many commenters below apparently think this was an April Fool joke. Does anyone seriously think that 2 or 3 home invaders would have any better chance against a Henry Rifle in the hands of a guy who knew how to use it, compared to an AR15! The Sutherland Springs Texas Church killer was hit twice by 5.56 mm ammo, once in the upper torso, yet managed to return fire and drive several miles before crashing his car and committing suicide. I personally watched a 300 pound hog hit poorly in the rear hips, dropped in its tracks by a 5.5" barrel single action revolver, firing 45 Colt, 250 gr cast lead flat point at 1000 fps Muzzle velocity. The hog struggled 15 feet on its front legs before dying in about 20 seconds. The 250 gr flat point bullet ripped a 1-inch diameter tunnel, chalk-line straight, completely thru the big hog, shattering both hips. The 24" barrel of that Henry would increase that 45 Colt muzzle velocity by more than 20% to over 1200 fps. Anyone think that Church Killer could have even crawled into his car or returned fire, had that upper torso hit been from a Henry firing a flat point 250 gr 45 Colt at 1200+fps?

These 1860's have always been a favorite of mine. Given that originals are both extremely rare and costly, they're obviously not guns that most individuals would have access to. There have been foreign made copies of various quality levels, I'm not a fan of these but they've been the only show in town until the Henry 1860 arrived, again - sorta! These are not that much more than the copies and they're AMERICAN made! What's not to love? Great video, you covered the 1860 well! Thanks!

Great explanation! I never cared about lever-actions until recently. Henry was a brilliant man. His works never cease to amaze me. I want one now, or two. Likely a .22 lr, and another which I haven't decided on a caliber yet. Possibly 30-30, 45 lc, or .357, not sure yet. I do know however, these rifles are still cool and still relevant. Not as accurate as a bolt action, but they don't need to be.

I’m sure someone else will already have said this somewhere in the comments, but that “Henry hop” might be quite useful when the follower reaches your hand. It would remind you that you’re reaching the last few rounds. I just can’t be bothered to scroll to see all the comments exactly like mine.
@gomezmunoz5842 жыл бұрын
I learned a way to avoid the "Henry Hop". I use the fingertips of my left hand on one side and the tip of my thumb on the other side, this creates a hole where the follower can go through. I will say if you shoot a lot, you need to wear a glove because that one piece barrel and magazine gets VERY hot.

Pete Sheppard hang on to the magazine, not the barrel. You won't get much heat transfer. If you manage to burn your hand you are a rich man with horrible accuracy and a good ammo supplier. 44-40 isn't exactly easy to find.
@DreamwalkerFilms7 жыл бұрын
Historically, most shooters of these guns wore gloves. A thick hide gauntlet or work glove helps tremendously.
@crazyfvck6 жыл бұрын
@@Rumblestrip It's worth pointing out that black powder rounds heat up a barrel MUCH faster than smokeless rounds. So if someone chooses to fire their Henry repro with period correct ammo, they will indeed heat up the barrel in very short order.
