Not really, their army was pretty weak at the time and their navy was basically pretty non-existent. The British had steam-boats with cannons, the Chinese had fishing boats with non-existent cannons. Army cohesion was weak in the Eastern Sea provinces and the Qing were suffering from corruption issues at the time. It wasn't embarrassing, even Britain got invaded by Vikings in the 6th century and got a bunch of their churches burned.

A man named James Fitzjames fought at Chinkiang, firing rockets into Chinese forces. He took a musket ball there similar to the wound Lord Nelson took at Trafalgar, but since it had spent its energy passing through his arm (which Nelson had lost by this time) it was able to be removed from where it lodged in his chest. Fitzjames would later die on the Franklin expeditions march south to Backs Fish River

Your summary at the end of this video was simply beautiful. You avoid all of the politically correct nonsense that so many modern day historians LOVE to spew yet you don't gloss over the morally reprehensible situation that Britain had found itself in. The arrogance and refusal to view the world as it was by the Chinese aristocracy is what was their ultimate downfall. The British just so happened to be the instruments of that downfall. If it wasn't them, it would have been someone else.
