Kottal kanaran gurukkal was an ezhava or thiyya which may not be considered as a very lower caste. More over ezhavars , thiyyas , nadars etc were and are warrior castes and vast majority of kalaris are owned and run by them . Earlier period they were warriors and soldiers and armies consists mainly of them. Kalari flock lore songs and stories gurus and heros we're they only. Moreover kalari cannot be learned by merely seeing. These new gurus should learn to respect early gurus.

the first kalari of cvn is at kannur district thalssery. Why this new generation gurukkal is purposefully forgetting it. And he should not disrespect the enlightened kottakkal kanaran gurukkal From where this cvn learned kalari.kanaran gurukkal is from thiyya caste which is not a very lower caste. It comes under other backward caste. The heroic warriors called chekavers are from this caste.They are a differnt breed seen only in malabar. They relates to the generatiion of karthaviryarjuna . They are called as kolariyans. They happened to be under lowercaste because of the politics of so called higher caste people... and just ask the gurukkal where is the birthplace of cv naryanan nayar.

Kalaripayattu, also known simply as Kalari, is an Indian martial art that originated in Kerala, a state on the southwestern coast of India. not tamil

Myth. While there has certainly been cross influence for practitioners, most scholars agree that there is no evidence of the myth of Bodhidharma teaching martial arts to the monks, while there is very good evidence that Shaolin Temple was hardly the origin of what some say is China’s 5000 year history of martial arts while India traces theirs to perhaps 2000 years. See the《汉书‧艺文志》at “兵技巧” which lists 13 martial schools and 6 essays on hand fighting, 38 essays on sword fighting, which while published around the time of Bodhidharma, quite clearly lists a history of the arts in use for some time. The concept of martial arts also appears in the time of the Yellow Emperor, say in 2598 BCE ie over 4600 years ago. The reference is gives evidence of animal forms in fighting: 《史记・五帝本纪》：黄帝乃征师诸侯，与蚩尤战于涿鹿之野，遂禽杀蚩尤。 See also the Yin Ruin bone oracles (殷墟甲骨文中), the descriptions of wolf wrestling in 《史记·律书》, tiger fighting in 《孟子・尽心》, among other pre-Qin dynasty records (pre 221 BCE).

I read an old Tamil script name "Bhogar 7000", Before bodhidarma two maharshi was named Bhogar and Thirumoolar went and stay in china and taught and give so many sasthras, (which meaning old science ) to chinese people these two maharshi is the desciples of agasthya maharshi. Agasthya is the father of kalari and marma ( marma is the weak point - just like accupuncture)in tamil (southern style kalari). Tamil style fighting with big bamboo stick only, name Silambam which means bambo. Now you can see in china also fighting with bamboo stick. But in India during british rule teaching of all these fighting was banned. So some techniques steps and excercises were vanished.All types if animal posters are still in kalari.

The earliest documented evidence of kalaripayattu are in the form of palm leaf manuscripts with drawings of fighters, found in Kerala c.200BCE. I hope that makes kalaripayattu one of the oldest martial art
