Keep in mind that most hardware revisions have a lower quality clock capacitor that is prone to leaking acid all over the motherboard. They NEED to be opened and checked for damage. General rule of thumb is, if the capacitor has golden marks on it, you have one of the safe models. Do NOT remove the capacitor unless you want to replace it. The system won't boot without it. If it's all black, it's practically a ticking time bomb. Remove it ASAP, even if it hasn't started leaking yet. You can either desolder it, or just wiggle and pry it off. Systems with a black clock cap will work just fine without it, so there's no need to replace it unless you want the console to remember the time you set for about two hours without a power supply. If there's been leakage, clean it carefully with isopropyl alcohol, making sure that no surface mounted components get dislodged in the process.

See if the original Xbox isnt moded its a ticking time boom once that old hard drive dies its toast. you have to install a mod chip or soft mod it to replace the hard drive on it. Also if the warranty stickers have been tampared with that isnt always a bad thing the OG Xbox is known for capacitor issues that destroy the system. If its been opened then its a pretty good indication its been cleaned and possibly recapped. Learn to take 5 minutes to assess the internal components. If the system has been re-capped then that is a selling point.

Good points! It certainly could have been properly repaired. Usually the owner would volunteer that info though. Of all the xboxes I've bought, few unsealed ones worked properly. Still, certainly worth asking about! Thank you!

I just bought an original Xbox console by itself for 3 dollars it's all I had and he accepted it 😄 I'm gonna keep it and get the cords I plugged it in and it fired up disc tray works too I want to kinda restore it and maybe play some classics

I only played the Xbox at friends houses. Still don't have one. But I often go thrifting and pick up whatever is cheap, good disc and complete. Super surprised I haven't found a good Halo

I have two Logitech wireless controllers in perfect shape. I bought them back in the day. There is a downside to them, the analog triggers don't register to 100%. I found this when racing my wife in NFS and saw that with the same exact car, I didn't accelerate as fast.

NEVER wrap the cable around the controller, that can damage the wire coming out of the frame. I always coil the cables and let them sit under the controller. For special edition, I put them in a ziploc bag.

My cousin sold me an original xbox and it had dead bugs inside it and it was dirty as hell. I took it to the woods and cleaned it up 😂 didn't want to get bugs in my house. But ended up cleaning it up and got it looking good and then I sold it 💀

Hi! I don’t share my store publicly. There are plenty of xboxes on ebay, and the buyer protections are great on there. If it doesn’t work, it is easy and free to return it. And you can get a great deal right now on consoles that are bundled with a big ol’ stack of games. 👍

Warranty seals aren’t as important because my 360 for example I removed the warranty sticker or seal that’s underneath the faceplate because it looks better without it & the true warranty seal is the thin silver sticker that has to be cut to separate the white & silver tray. No pry marks on rear etc New consoles don’t even have warranty seals 🦭

I looked further into it, so it's a Grey area when it comes to modded consoles and depends on if you have copyright infringing software on there, which most even most Bios' use modified Microsoft code.

Modding the console is by itself fine, and potentially recommended, partly because it allows for replacing the internal hard drives which are now starting to fail due to old age, and partly because PAL consoles in an unmodded state have had their ability to run games in HD disabled. But yeah, unauthorized copies of ROMs and games are a big no-no when it comes to reselling a console.

6:25 how tf are they “technically” illegal? Where’s your source. It’s hardware modification, which you are in your own right to sell if the seller is interested in it. “Bootleg” games aren’t illegal, though they might run into some copyright problems, that’s not the owners fault or responsibility. Also, “Emulators” are most DEFINITELY not illegal, they are video game preservation, and modding a console period, will not ruin it, in fact it will make it better. The disc drive will not always be worse in a modded console. If it does contain pirated games, so be it. No one will ever know anyways, and it won’t damage your console. If buying isn’t owning, then piracy isn’t stealing.

Good question! Any original xbox should be able to play every original xbox game. Backwards compatibility has been an issue though; the xbox 360 can only play certain original xbox games, much to the frustration of collectors. The Series X and S claims to be able to play all xbox and all 360 games.
