Klaus's reaction to Freya being taken marks his growth. A year before he wouldn't trust her, by this point she is his family and he will literally do anything to protect her. It shows how he has progressed, and how she has earned his trust like nobody (other than hayley) before has.

I mean they needed another witch to do the locater spell to find Aurora, who had Freya, so it was the best thing to do at the time. He tells her at the end that she's his sister and she's part of the family now and forever. Not saying he treats her well, but he doesn't treat her like shit any more than he does with most others. imo at least.
