Just make movies with good stories. Making entire movies trying to force in some political statement creates poop movies. I watched brokeback mountain a year ago (I'm late) and it was a great film. Same. Id NEVER want to get a promotion at work simply because I'm a gay woman. I give 110% at work every day..Ive always been proud to have a great work ethic and go above and beyond... and its very rewarding to be noticed for it. I'd be proud to say that my work ethic was a huge factor in me getting a future promotion. I can't even comprehend the thought of being proud of a promotion because I'm such a great dyke!! Like wtf does that have to do with work performance? Nothing. Looking at it now, it's a bit hard to take with the way it glosses over and even romanticizes slavery and racism. But, a part of me can't help but smile imagining the woke left seeing it nominated and doing their best "nazi who just opened the ark of the covenant" impression.

Here’s a novel idea: in order to qualify for Best Picture, you have to make a really good film. Engaging story, quality writing, believable acting. Good camera work, editing, CGI, special effects, set and costume design, scoring. And how about, when casting for a role, you judge actors based on the quality of their work? This does not happen on the forefront of casting, because every time, directors have an idea about how a character looks, so they send out calls looking for a specific height, build, skin tone, and hair colour/length/texture. Maybe, you send out casting calls based on the character’s personality and archetype instead? That might cast a broader net in regard to race, and the CD’s might find themselves surprised by who they choose and what he looks like. My favourite characters (of any race) are those characters that are not an archetype of their race. I don’t want to see a story about a black man; I want to see a story about a man who happens to be black (or white, or latino). Also, we’ve really fallen when it comes to writing good stories. It’s rare that I see a film with an original story that I find moving, funny, or inspiring. I don’t care if the story features a woman or someone with a disability; I care that it’s good. I want to be transported. I want to be moved to laughter and/or tears. I want to feel things. That should always be the bottom line. My favourite tv shows are all pre-2010’s, because that’s when tv started becoming heavily political or raunchy. I haven’t seen a good kids’ film since I was a kid myself.

Same 😂.. i am white ( on top of all not just white as in race, but albino…so really really fair skin and hair) 😀 i was a 90s early 2000s child.. I didn’t even know the internet existed until age 12! I always related to the characters..The Cosbys, dr Doolitle, Sister Act, Family Matters, Sister Sister, Different Strokes, fresh prince of Bel Air, The Proud family, the Rugrats had a black girl called Susie Carmitchel i loved her, I loved and related to ALL the characters.. even tho I didn’t get some jokes that are common in the black community, and didn’t know anything about racism and slave history because i was born and raised in Bulgaria 🇧🇬 in Europe.. and I’d never even seen a black person in real life..but only on TV, i still related to those characters because they are human!! And later on in my teen years… Princess Tiana in princess and the frog, the boy from the Spiderverse… the Cleveland show.. i loved all these shows! Did i complain that the characters are black and did not represent me? Especially as an albino girl? NO, i just loved the movies for what they are…good story, interesting characters, pleasant to watch and not filled with political agenda! And that’s how most black people used to feel too about movies with white people in them, they used to buy white doll characters, dress as white princesses , etc etc…until the in the 2010s the leftists started many movements and propagandas that brainwashed black peoples to think that they’ve been hated for decades… and turned races against each other..and if you are black they told you and still keep telling you “you should only buy black characters merch, toys, kids clothes with only black characters…listen to only black peoples music, eat more ethnic african and carrebian foods..even tho you’ve never set a foot in those countries and don’t even know where they’re on the map…but do it anyway because YOU ARE BLACK and you should support this culture and hate all others! Is just disgusting what they’re doing! People should love each other , and stop fighting about race…stop judging a book by its cover and start looking at people’s personality and actually traits that matter! So sad these innocent times are gone, is not hatred everywhere all the time and people and schools and media are teaching their kids this stuff, and i am honestly dreading the future!

I haven't looked at race, but I DID look at sex/female roles in some of the most "classic" "important", critically-acclaimed movies of all-time, and many of the most respected movies in Hollywood history had exactly ZERO female speaking roles. -Apocalypse Now (in the original theatrical cut. Copolla added like an hour to the director's cut/"Redux", in the 90s, which includes a few minor female parts) -12 Angry Men -Reservoir Dogs -The Treasure of Sierra Madre -The Thing (1982 version- The 50's original had a female scientist) -Das Boot/The Boat -Hunt for Red October -Lawrence of Arabia -Deliverance -Patton -Master and Commander -The Great Escape (And Dr Strangelove, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and Cool Hand Luke all only had one minor female part) These are like half of the most important movies of the 20th century. Passing over them, because they don't meet diversity quotas, is like passing over the Mona Lisa or Venus de Milo... tbh, Oscars were NEVER really a great guide to decent movies. Because people TRYING to make "Oscar-bait" is pretty much a guarantee of a wanky, pretentious fart-huffing movie... But that's gonna get WAAY worse, now they have a literal list boxes to check off.

I saw a woke movie set in 1800s Britain. People of various races were in the cast and the impression given was that all the characters had equal social standing. Nobody in the story "saw" color, and they were really, under their costumes, modern progressives. That was the sensibility imputed by the screenwriter, airlifted from our era to that era. It's hilarious because this "cleansing" of history is exactly the complaint people had about Song of the South. The wokesters are so confused.

So it went from "Oscars so white" to "Oscars so woke." I'm black and even I'm bothered by quota casting. I'd rather go back to "Oscars so white," which really didn't bother me to begin with. I'd rather people be casted and movies winning based on criteria that is artistic and performance-driven. The whole inclusivity thing isn't based on reality because as an adult I realize the true reality is that life is not constructed to be inclusive. The animal kingdom gets it, but humans don't. The hyena knows it will never be the king of the jungle like the lion, and the lion knows it'll never run as fast as the cheetah. As kids, our parents often said, "Life isn't fair." And they're right. The reality of life is that you're not going to get everything you want and not everything is created to accommodate you. But now we're flipping that on its head, lowering standards, and letting people engage with life unrealistically. You shouldn't be granted a role just cause you fit a quota. People shouldn't be entitled based on these criteria. I get annoyed watching films and seeing a character who I KNOW was a quota cast. I'm about to switch my focus to international/foreign films. I'm so over Hollywood. I really, really want to see an A-list actor or director speak up about this and not care about taking any heat.

So these "inclusivity" rules by the Academy will either result in more non-Western foreign films winning Oscars (because duh, they are made by and star people of different ethnicities) or that American filmmakers are forced to over-represent certain groups of people in order to be eligible for an Oscar... Restricting art always made for interesting results but with Hollywood I'm not so sure. Some films that would be excluded from an Oscar nomination in 2024 due to forced "inclusivity" rules: The Wizard of Oz (1939), The Dark Knight (2008), Schindler's List (1993) and literally any movie about WWI, WWII or the Holocaust (except if it solely focuses on the gay and disabled people that were killed and incarcerated), Fight Club (1999), Inception (2010), Interstellar (2014), basically any Christopher Nolan movie except the 2020 Tenet (makes you think twice now about the casting choices), any movie by Martin Scorsese, the original and prequel Star Wars trilogy (if aliens and robots don't count), Back to the Future trilogy, Psycho (1960) although one could argue mentally handicapped people are in it, any historical film that focuses on figures that happened to have light skin color (see the 2023 Cleopatra "docu"-series), all Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton films, possibly Wall-E since it's just about a robot mostly... no diversity there, and last but not least basically all documentary films that happen to tell stories about white people (I'm specifically thinking about the war in Ukraine...). Also, what about animated films that don't have any humans in them like Zootopia? The list of Best Picture winners that wouldn't win anymore due to these rules is too long so look them up yourselves if you want: www.imdb.com/event/ev0000003/2021/1/?ref_=ev_eh

You raise an interesting point. I suppose it depends how 'traditional' the non-Western film is because based on these inclusivity rules, having a non-white cast is only the first step. I suspect a lot of non-Western films would still be disqualified from Best Picture for things like only depicting one race (their own), and not having a plot focused on LGBT or disability struggles etc - especially since there are plenty of countries around the world where these things are not as prominent in the culture or public conciousness.

Yes, but Asians in Asia are not a minority. I just can not wait when Americans will try to dictate who should and should not act in Japanese, Korean or Chinese movies, or give us quotas to be nominated at the awards. I mean, this nonsense will all die out in the next 5 to 10 years and then the Anglosphere will realise what regression they were fostering for the last 15-20 years with this kind of nonsense quotas and pandering. I can not speak for minorities or ethnicities, but I can speak for myself and if I, a Japanese woman from Japan, were to be awarded an award only because of some ethnicity quotas, and my competitors were automatically excluded, because they were not the right skin color, ethnicity or minority, I would really take no pride or joy in such a reward, or even bother to accept it.
@WaaDoku
@WaaDoku Жыл бұрын
@@library2952 I can imagine that there will be a lot of "exceptions" from these rules, since many of the things listed as requirements can be kept vague in the film itself but can just be inserted in the film's synopsis. How do you know a person has some specific "minority" heritage? How do you know someone is "queer"? How do you know someone is mentally or physically handicapped? Unless it needs to be extreme examples for all of these, there's room to get around those rules I suspect. Also, would Parasite be disqualified now because all people in the film are not a minority in the country of origin? Does this mean there needs to be more white people in nominees from non-Western countries? The fact that "women" as a whole are listed as a "underrepresented minority" is also ridiculous and goes to show that this is driven by ideology. What I surely do know is that I will specifically seek out films that do not make it to the Oscar short lists. So basically anything that is not associated with the Academy.

You are wearing a turtleneck sweater instead of a tank top. The new Oscar rules - I just can't! LOL! If Hollywood wants to shoot its own foot off...go for it! It would be awesome if the movies that are truly artistic take all the box office popularity, but don't match the "criteria". While the ones that match the narrative are box office flops. Then what?! Stay tuned, I suppose. Thinking of a fantastic black actor from back before it was "woke". Sidney Poitier! A complete legend! And the movies he starred in mostly pointed out racial disparity when it was real, not contrived. His movies were awesome, he was awesome, and they had universal appeal. And, right? My apologies, but I do not subscribe to identity politics, gender ideology, white replacement theory, CRT, white supremacy, QAnon, Black Lives Matter, anti-vax, deconstructionism, fascism, or any other socialist/collectivist movement. Rather, I believe in the sanctity of the individual, personal agency, and the power of critical thought (which I believe is under attack). I hope this clarifies my previous statement regarding the confusing nature of the Woke movement. Have a great day!

I have 2 comments regarding "Juneteenth": 1). The perpetuation of the woke agenda regarding reparations and the weaponization of the holiday is turning into a day to participate in "white-bashing". My family were Scottish immigrants, so we never owned slaves - heck, my family didn't even arrive in the USA till early in the 20th century, so why should I have to feel ashamed of being white because black people were enslaved 50 years before we were even here? 2). Where does it end? What's the cutoff date here? There were plenty of other races enslaved by others throughout history, where are those reparations? Where are the reparations coming from Africa - paid by the members of the tribes who sold fellow Africans into slavery? Where are my reparations from England because of 300 years of oppression back between 1300 and 1600? Better yet, where are the reparations from Italy since the Roman Empire enslaved, literally everyone? Or is that going too far back? It was 150 years ago people. I should not -as a US citizen - participate in paying reparations for something that my family was not even involved in 150 years ago. In a nutshell - it's time to move on. Great video. Thank you for a very interesting conversation. Keep up the good work!

I just realized that in 5-10 years people will look at race when hiring like never before. Because S'so many blacks and minorities are getting degrees on sketchy grounds. While white and asians have to struggle for their degrees. That means that the future employees will have work ethics and skills that align with their skin color and ethnicity. And those blacks and minorities that are actually skilled will have to fight against predujices.
