It's quite funny that you didn't consider AOE3 in this analysis, from which a lot of these AOE4 units are inspired. Janissaries are obviously also in AOE3, but importantly, Spahi and Great Bombards are too, and they both look and behave as you are expecting in AOE4. Nizam Fusilier have a very similar role to the drummer units, in which they will buff/counter specific units based on their unit stance, so you can swap unit stance at any time based on the battle they are in. AOE3 has played a big role in AOE4's design, despite the parallels you find between AOE2 and AOE4 because of its time period. Don't forget about AOE3, it's incredibly useful when examining AOE4 content, and you'll be surprised how many features and units from AOE3 have inspired, or straight-up replicated, into AOE4.

Hello, wanted to ask if it's worth putting ranged units on walls? Because in the matches of top 50 players that I see, practically no one does it. This was the most effective way to defend in the Middle Ages. Also, what if you could build towers on top of which you could build stationary ballistae (like Stronghold) that could destroy siege equipment? Would that be too powerful? I feel like almost all battles in AoE 4 (especially those by better players) tend to be one siege force fighting another siege force. It feels like no fortress exists. And the walls are merely to block the way without posing a threat.

@@AgeofNoob i don't deny you are quite skilled with your shots, I just think it was showcasing new biomes, I personnally do not mind too much the deep water reflect much less and seem more opaque but shallow water reveal possibly more details but there was not much of it in the presentation. Just thinking does your shot are allways during sunset to have more stark contrasts reflections ?
@AgeofNoob
@AgeofNoob Жыл бұрын
@@The_Independant_Pit It's a mix of both. The default lighting of the game is just not good, both the color and the angle. So changing the angle a bit and adding a warmer tone drastically improves the quality of the shot. As it relates to water - regardless of which biome you go with, if you shoot the water body head on without an angle, it will always look bland and very underwhelming. We could criticize the way it was designed in this respect I suppose. However, when there are angles that look much better, why not just use that for promotional material?

As a Turk, I'm gonna assume that the wolf head on the horses might symbolize the Turkic roots of Ottoman, because if you look into it a bit the wolf is a pretty significant symbol of Turks. There is even a saga called Ergenekon, in which it is stated that the Turks are born children of a wolf called Asena. In addition to these, as far as i know from the history lessons, Sipahi's are specifically chosen to have Turkic roots unlike Janissaries which are European people converted from Christianity to Islam when they were just infant or child (Devşirme), thus they don't have any Turkic roots whatsoever.

Idk but in India sipahi refers to any kind of professional soldier in a standing army. The lowest infantry rank in the army is still the sepoy and has been so since the company. Of course, maybe the Turks in India simply preferred using professional soldiers as shock cavalry. The commanders of sipahi were called sipasalar.

In the OE sipahi is a specific type of landowner cavalry. They were given lands in return for bringing a certain number of cavalrymen to wars.
@satyakisil9711

@@Evraklatife well, many societies gave land to the elite warrior class as default. But you can make an argument that ispahi is related to the Indo-Iranian word asvah meaning horse. I guess after guns were a common thing soldiers would dismount to aim so infantry ended up being sipahi as well.

janisarries when first formed, consisted of little kids that were taken from families and given proper education and used for both administrative and military duties according to their skills (clercs, scribes, military judges, cooks, soldiers of various types, translators, consultants, guides, trainers, grooms etc). so taking people form town centers to make jannissaries is not very incorrect imo.

@thegraybeards2568
@thegraybeards2568 Жыл бұрын
Interesting etimology fact, the word is actually is from persian in root, meaning gunslinger / soldier. In ottoman military tradition however, Sipahi or getting "Sipahi'd" means something in a different context. It is kind of a derivation of the Romans giving citizenship and land to veteran soldiers back in the day. So once a soldier served enough time (or when someone did serve extraordinarly well) they were given a land to govern. In return, they were required to raise a number of good trained soldiers with good equipment and a horse and send these soldiers when the war time comes (usually in summer times). All the costs for the equipment are needed to be paid by that small veteran governor, which also needs to act as a local protection force in the peace times. This system is called Sipahi system and these soldiers are called Sipahis. Since these soldiers were equipped by small governors, they were usually very well equipped since this was how these small governers were audited by their superiors, and it was not uncommon for the bigger authorities to replace these governors if the soldiers were not equipped and trained properly. Also, since most of these equipments were bought locally, each soldier looked different. Animal feathers, different ornaments etc. were heavily used, since these local governors also competed between each other and each wanted to have the best looking soldiers. This kept the raising army costs close to zero for the Ottomans, at least for Sipahis, since all the responsibility was on the local governors from feeding them, training them, equipping them and sending them.

@@thegraybeards2568 It's a great explanation of the Sipahi system. During Suleiman the Magnicifent's period, Ottomans were able to raise 100.000 sipahis for free. It was a super effective, unbeatable system until modern, fully professional armies occurred in the 17th century. These half professional, good equipped levy units became useless against fully professional armies and pike&shot tactics.

My only concern is, that the balance will be broken. Sure the ottomans and Malians are awesome, but they need to fit against all other civs wich are already in use. Maybe there will be blancefixes on other civs too. The Mehter seems for me, a better Khan. So either khan will get buffed or mehter will be nerfed.

The wolfs/bears on the horses are amazing, probably a reference to Tengri

they are there to show these guys are real hunters, and to scare enemy horses. these guys called "Deli" (mad) or "Akıncı" (raider) depending on some small differences. Akıncı are generally more sedentary people with more islamic gravy on their life style while (as you predicted) Deli are mostly muslim only in name and sometimes not even that, they have more nomadic/tengrist roots. they howl before or during battles, raid like no tomorrow. but as nomadic tradition when they see the odds are not going their way sometimes they just retreat. Both Akıncı and Deli are semi nomadic turks that live generally in borderlines to harrass enemy in even peace times with small raids. in wartimes they are both called for service with promises of provisions and they never like to miss an opportunity for some plunder and slaves.

They should have just called them Turks and covered both Seljuks and Ottomans

I think Ottomans is good because in the future devs can make Great Seljuk Empire alone. If they call Turks, they wouldnt make another Turkish state.
