The 2001 Buick GNX concept car was sold at Barrett auctions a long time ago. It’s also worth noting there’s videos of Grand Prix gtp’s doing 0-60 in 5.6 seconds with the 260 hp 3.8 series 3 with whatever the series 3 supercharger was. So around 5 second 0-60 300 hp is very possible.

Traditionally Buick styling had ort holes that represented the number of cylinders the cars engines had installed. Six-cylinder cars got port holes in sets of three and eight cylinders got sets of four holes. This GNX concept having triple exhaust as well as triple port holes in the hood was no doubt a nod to this traditional Buick styling cue. Cool concept car in my opinion as it isn't far off of many of the Gm performance FWD cars in the era.
@ScrotieJohnsonАй бұрын
not always the port holes mostly were mainly to show the extra length on the roadmasters and centuries upper tier models or long wheel base cars got 8 port holes as in 1953 buick quit using 6s until 1961. basically 6 meant a main line buick, 8 meant higher trim/ bigger buick not engine cylinders exclusively.
@playanddisplay3636Ай бұрын

I love how the Delco stereos look in the riviera so id keep that and just get those Blue Tooth "tapes" for phone calls and GPS. Then add 18 or 18 inch wheel tire combo, Full dark walnut wood dash kit for the interior, and somehow drop the HUD from a grand Prix GTP into the riviera. What's really heartbreaking is that Buick was looking to return to RWD in the 80s and converted a Regal coupe, sedan, and Reatta into RWD GN series to show how easy it could be done. They had both super or turbo charged 3.8s. Of course, GM said no. 😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬

The 3800 is truly a solid engine. Especially the supercharged one, I truly wish that GM still made it. They're practically near goddam bulletproof and probably the only good American made V6 ever made, these V6's can last upwards of 300k miles with very little issues. I wish they still had a variant of it, maybe updated with dohc and vvt- that would be a beast of an engine. GM kept the 5300 why couldn't they keep the beloved 3800.

Bland but extremely reliable. With the 3800 supercharged in the GS, you would think the torque stear would be bad, but in my experience it wasn't. GM has done good work minimizing that. The only performance-sapping issue, was the insanely tall geared 4 spd auto. It did have the limited slip, but good god- it could go from 50 to 100 in only second gear. I had a 2002 Grand Sport back in 2017... For about a year and in that time I found that though the supercharged engine was exhilarating, it sucked gas like no tomorrow once you tapped into the supercharger and the supercharger is not always online the engine is very underpowered until you press the pedal far enough to "turn on". the supercharger and I found that annoying in daily driving as I don't want to always drive at 9/10ths to enjoy the power that the engine can deliver ...so all the engines power always felt like an on-off switch (which was admittedly purposely engineered into it by GM for fuel economy)and I found that the better motor all around was really the naturally aspirated version for daily use and enjoyability

I can't remember all of the weird shit he had on it but I know it had ugly wheels, a weird tribal graphic, and one of those race wings among other stuff. He won a lot of trophies on the car show circuit, not sure if that was a classing thing or what. An actual friend of mine still has a 00 Grand Prix GTP he takes out on weekends, she's got some rust & a busted overdrive gear but she's still kickin. I think it even has some mild SLP parts on it. I think if they put this GNX concept into production as a limited release it would have sold fairly well. Well I guess that depends on their marketing department. It looks pretty sharp for what it is, and it's competitive with other models available at the time in 2000. They let the stupid Monte Carlo go with a free ride for way longer that it was welcome... Heh, I had a different friend back in high school who bought a 70 GSX. We called it the rotten banana, it was rough. No idea if he kept it or not, lost contact with him a good 20 years ago. I've owned a 01 GS. They have a lot of little quirks (coolant elbows!) that you have to work out, but they're a fun car to own. And who can be mad at supercharger whine?

I've always wanted to take a super charged 3800 and put it into an S10 that had the 4 cylinder. It has the same bolt pattern.

I have the series 2 3800 NA, and I was thinking of top swapping it to get the extra 40HP & 80tq

Those were badass!!💯I also like the lacrosse w/5.3 V8 I'm pretty sure those are pushing 300hp,I drove one when I worked at auto auction part time weekends,they paid cash 💸 it was only a few hrs Saturdays and Sundays,easiest/funnest jobs ever!!!I would basically pick them up at spot,pull up to podium, waited til the gavel slammed and drove off down this 1/4 mile stretch and park it in designated spot and I opened up every vehicle I drove down that stretch 🤣🤣🤣even though they told us not to!!those V8 buick lacrosse were fuckin pretty quick!!💯great vid btw

Sounds like an amazing job. As for those V8 Lacrosse, those are very unique cars man, very underrated. Glad you liked the video:)

I wouldn't want my supercharged Buick to sound like a Civic😂

These thing were pretty sick with BBS wheels and a lot of power. But they didn't make a lot of them.

My dad had a bustle back century with the 301 v8 (4.9l) in the early 80s, it was a slug

Interesting GNX but i stick to Holden VS series 3 Calais RWD with supercharged 3800 V6, my uncle had one, it bloody fast. HSV XU6 version on GNX.

Yeah… if only we could get them here in the U.S. We finally got a Holden Monoco rebadge as the Pontiac GTO in 2004 and a rebadged Holden Commodore as the Pontiac G8 in 2008. Both of them had the 6.0 liter V-8. Unfortunately they were considered overpriced because of the exchange rate at the time, but great cars nonetheless. Cheers!

@@Primus54 USA really miss HSV sedans with LSA V8 n Maloo ute. The two GTO n SS should been HSV versions.
