In this video, I present my views on why people find the overt schizoid difficult to emotionally connect with in relationships, related to people who live with schizoid personality disorder.

Thanks for this. The overt schizoid is a deep topic. Good to see you made the comparison with covert schizoids, your summary makes a lot of sense. Looking forward to more on this topic.

Yeah, I think this topic deserves more consideration, regarding how useful the terms overt and covert schizoid are in understanding schizoid presentations. I'll be covering this topic further in future.

Thanks. I get what you mean, I used to think that I was the only person dealing with this specific set of psychological challenges, but I thought there might be others like me out there... but never met anyone like me in real life. When I discovered schizoid personality disorder/adaptations, life started to make more sense, the reasons for my being and my place in the scheme of things.

Great comparison video of overt/covert behaviors. I exhibit both (plus some additional "whatever T.F. THAT was" ones😉) dependent, as you pointed out, on environment and context. I think that's a very important point that also ties intimately with the "small talk" subject- in my experience the inability and lack of interest in small talk does involve lack of interest in the subject matter or lack thereof, largely due to the inability to relate or invest emotionally in it, or from emotional dissociation in general. I tend to focus on more obscure interests than most people, so have little awareness of pop culture interests in general and therefore limited experience or common ground for conversation beyond inane comments about the weather. If some thread is evident that invites a more meaningful conversation the gap between overt and covert can sometimes be bridged and potentially an ongoing relationship can exist. That initial transition away from "small talk" isn't only a problem of schizoid "unsociability" but also an apparent lack of depth or relatability that can't reasonably be expected for the schizoid alone to bear the burden of resolving. Any bridge worth building must be a two-way street and not a dead end, and requires an abutment on both sides (and no, the Kardashians DON'T count).

True: Any bridge worth building must be a two-way street and not a dead end, and requires an abutment on both sides.

Thanks, very interesting! I think that I'm the oscillating type. And yes, if you want me to leave, you just have to start smalltalk...😉

All of your videos are excellent and comprehensive descriptions of what being schizoid is like. That said, I chuckle a little bit because every other personality style/disorder gets so many followers on their channel. (E.g. Channels about, say, narcissism get a zillion followers because they're like, "WE DO BE DOING THAT!") Whereas we schizoids are much more like, "I'm not much of a joiner." So you're doing a real service, but I wonder if you'll get the attention that these videos deserve. (But, then again, would you want it?) In any case, thank you, and keep it up the good work.

Thanks for your feedback. I agree that schizoid content is less than popular than content for other personality disorders. In terms of attention... that's a hard one, for real, I'm kinda conflicted about it. I want to spread schizoid awareness, but putting myself 'out there' doesn't come naturally to me. Yeah, I'm still working that one out, lol.
