My first big game animal was a black tail deer on my youth first time hunter tag and that is the reason why I love hunting and the outdoors. I’ve had the pleasure of hunting Black-Tailed deer in SE Alaska several times, and what an incredible experience and animal! These deer have to be one of the most resilient and adaptable species of creatures on the planet given the topography and elements they deal with and ultimately thrive in. Having met Don and DeWaine, and worked with Brian with ODFW, I can tell you these professionals are working hard to create the best outcomes for wildlife in Oregon. I'm glad to see OHA and MDF working with them to learn about black-tailed deer and modern challenges to a thriving population. This is one example of why I'm a member of both organizations. Thanks Leupold for this telling video. I'm still rather new to hunting myself and have really only learned of Leupold in the last three years. Went on my first hunt ever just three days ago, turkey with one of my favorite people. We didn't get anything, but had managed to successfully call in three birds, two Jake's and a hen to around 50-ish yards, before our decoy blew over and spooked them. Not bad for two turkey rookies. We had a blast and are definitely heading back out next week for another chance till we either tag out or the tags expire. Y'all have built yourselves a great company and I love your gear. I'm proud to represent and help sell people on what y'all make. Looking forward to hunting more and more species in the coming years.

This is long overdue and I applaud the partnership with the ODFW, OHA, Leupold & Stevens, and the MDF! In the 1990's, I was part of the Oregon Foundation for Blacktail Deer (OFBD) with Larry D. Jones, Neil Summers, Ken French, and other local blacktail enthusiasts. I've spent over 30 years studying and hunting these elusive deer in the Pacific Northwest. I'm overjoyed to see this focus on habitat and conservation. I hope this summit becomes an annual event and I'm standing by to help!
