The San Diego Padres have made multiple trades and free agency signings all adding to their talent now. The downside of this though is that they are sacrificing their future to get this talent. The problem is, they aren’t even doing good now, so things could start to look really bad really quickly.

Going all in on a team which has only made the playoffs once since 2006 (in a shortened 2020 season) made no sense to me. You already had star power on that team, and you need those 2.0-4.0 WAR players to round out your roster.

The “win now” mode of the game of sports has destroyed several franchises. Imagine if the padres still had that farm system. I get it if you win a ring but if you don’t it’s gonna cost you big time

I doubt that he'll leave based on that, Soto has his ring and most these guys are addicted to money anyway. Padre's owner is barely alive still to enjoy his billions so he'll write the check for sure.

The Phillies actually have an organizational plan and a good farm. The Padres since Preller took over have tried to spend tons of money on stars (2015) and it has hindered their club. The Phillies have three franchise cornerstones (Turner, Realmuto, and Harper) with some other high end contributers (Nola, Wheeler, Marsh, Castellanos, and Hoskins) and young/cheap talent (Suarez, Stott, and Bohm). They also have prospects like Painter, Rojas, McGarry, Abel, amd Crawford with tons of pedigree and potential. The Phillies (as an organization) are miles ahead of the Padres.

I was a new Padres fan but realized this team was great on paper but not real results. As of this post the Padres are 56-63. I also realized the Padres fans are really bitter regarding to still having to pay players that are no longer on the team but won't hold the current players accountable. Yikes, can you imagine in a couple of years when they still have company for Machado and Boegarts.

They gotta go all in next year with Soto’s last year. If they don’t win next year it’s gonna be tough especially if Manny and Bogaerts keep regressing

The frustrating thing is, individually there’s been some pretty solid performance but as a whole the team can never seem to be together on anything. One player is having a great game? The rest of the offense does nothing. Pitching looking good? Bats go completely quiet. Offense sparks up? Pitching collapses. It just seems like the entire team isn’t on the same page

Yeah the padres are a joke. However, given the GM’s idea that bringing all those star players to SD will make the team super strong, he’s expecting like getting to the world series cuz he’s all in. Can you imagine the amount of pressure and stress the players must feel? It’s like if you don’t make the playoffs then you’re worthless human beings. Probably too much stress for the players and toxic work environment.

@@pizzaman2298 I’m a Padres fan and I wholeheartedly agree. Our fan base is so toxic. The players are braggadocio without backing it up. They are spoiled and have so many issues in the clubhouse. Too many divas and egos. Nando and Manny bragged at fan fest saying we’re winning the World Series and it didn’t matter who they played. They expected the championship to be handed to them without ever playing a game. They are a joke of the league and our GM is clueless with no strategy for 9 years now. We are not good at all and it will take an organizational overhaul to right the ship. I have us winning 75-77 games this season.

As a Dodgers fan I disagree. Padres are fine for the next 2-3 years. After that they will be awful for a decade . But the next 2-3 year are gonna be fun for their fans
@timotmon
@timotmon Жыл бұрын
I agree, Padre's are in it for the short term gain, world series or bust attitude for the next 3 years. Still though, it's not a lot of time to build that culture which is why teams like the Dodgers do it better. There's something about young talent in the minors growing up together and forming a bond early. Then you have the mentorships, say Kershaw and Gonsolin for example. That's the recipe for long term success.

They talk a lot of shit and saying they are going to win this much but never do. They are bunch of overpaid players who can’t win and play together. For those who say Phillies is the same they are not Phillies at least made it to the World Series while padres just talk their way out of the playoff every year.

Not really. They probably won't end the season sub-.500, but there are som worrying signs that they have a ton of money tied up in players who are not performing, with no young players to supplement the roster. That mean that their window will probably close when Soto/Darvish/TBD leave in a couple of offseasons, which means you waste Tatis' prime and screw over your fans and organization.
