Good for Alan. He didn't have a seizure while driving, and hit a tree at around 60 mph. I did. February 2, 2013. I had a friend with me. He broke his hip. I was crushed. In a fraction of a second, I sustained a compound fracture of my left ankle. My left femur was broken in seven spots, and required two subsequent surgeries. My right femur was broken, as was my right tibia. My right knee was broken in a horrible fashion. I was hospitalized for 21 days, and it took 8 months of the most excruciatingly painful physical therapy you can imagine, to walk again. I was prescribed Norco, an opioid medication that I had been given since the day of the crash. Norco was effective, but it was hard on my stomach and everything that came after my stomach. I was put on 5 milligram percocet, 3 pills per day, as needed. My primary physician prescribed those medications to me, and when I told him that after taking this low dosage for around 7 years, my pain had worsened and I wanted to move up to the next most potent version of percocet. He approved, and I was much happier with the stronger dose, but I wasn't addicted, not even close. When you are taking opioids to treat "catastrophic pain" - my orthopedic surgeons term - you aren't seeking euphoria. You're trying to have some semblance of a normal life by keeping that pain from running wild. Then, my doctor moved, and he moved very far away. I could no longer see him. Since then, I have been to countless doctors, and pain management clinics (that's a joke. These people don't care). I haven't had any opioid pain medication in over six months. The result? I am a danger to anyone who angers me. Why? Because this type of pain - left untreated - affects how your brain works. Go to the Mayo Clinic website and you'll find a ton of information about this subject. If I'm walking in any business that has a bare cement floor, the pain is going to pay me a visit very quickly, and you'd better not make me angry. I have been banned from businesses because I started screaming at someone who did something that angered me. This is not who I am. This is what extended periods of uncontrolled, intense pain, turns me into. You're not going to treat this kind of pain with a massage. You're going to have to use opioids. Sorry, but that's a fact.

I have lost 10 years of my life. Had 2 back surgeries and I'm so much worse than I was before. I'm being crushed from my lower back to my feet. Burned alive and electrocuted all at the same time. Now I find out it was my si joints all along 😭

Over-simplification of chronic pain. Long-term knots/trigger points/tender points are driving by underlying tissue pathology or hypersensitization of the nervous system representing the area. They are symptoms and NOT THE CAUSE.

Thank you Julie I love your detailed explanation and I also love that you included emotional loss connecting with a limitation from pain in a muscle.

Thank you for being curious about pain and becoming a "knot" hunter! Your curiosity and data collection has apparently been invaluable!

Our bodies are wonderful self regulating organisms but, when we push past the limits or suffer a muscle injury or even stress. The body cries out for help via pain signals. Julies method of finding the root cause and treating it with hands on manipulation needs to be brought to the mainstream. Think of all the needless and detrimental procedures that could be avoided.

I couldn't agree with you more! Just this week I worked with a woman who had severe low back pain for over 30 years. She had been to every type of medical practitioner through the years, but none of them were able to eliminate the pain. it took one treatment to have her announce that she felt better than she had in 20 years, and that has been improving as she continues to treat herself. Think of all the experiences she missed because of pain, and that just treating the proper muscles has made this much of a difference.
