He had his big sister Vicky' s huge intelligence. When he was born, his grandmother looked at him and felt uneasy. She wrote in her diary she knew all was not well.People think that the Queen's haemophila gene was a new mutation. But looking at her maternal ancestors, there are many little boy deaths, usually at the time they began to walk. John Brown 's brother tortured and tormented him. Leopold's daughter, Alice , was an obligate carrier and her two sons Maurice and Rupert died of the disease. Any of his female line descendants could carry the disease. Helena was the sister of the Dutch queen. She was the only daughter in law who stood up to to the Queen's narcissistic behaviour.

I don't think you're being fair to Charles Edward, Leopold's son born after his father's death. Yes, he fought on the German side in both world wars but I think it's important to understand how that came about. He was still a teenager when his uncle, the Grand Duke of Saxe-Cobug Gotha died childless. Queen Victoria insisted that he go to Coburg as the new Grand Duke. He was forced to give up the title, Duke of Albany, and all the rights and privileges that went with it and go to Germany and reinvent himself under his cousin Kaiser Wilhelm 2 guidance into a Prussian prince. He didn't want to go but being born into the royal family he had no choice but to do what he was told. When WW1 broke out he felt an obligation to Coburg. After that he was unceremoniously booted out of the British royal family for good.

His seizures were likely also caused by his haemophilia. Small brain bleeds can certainly cause seizures, and with haemophilia in young children, the strain of having normal toddler tantrums could quite easily rupture small blood vessels within the head. To the victorian eye, it would look like any strong emotions would cause his convulsions, which would feed into the idea that it was a curse

At 9:07...it is not the picture of Leopold but of his nephew Albert Victor, oldest son of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.

Glad you corrected that Leopold was the eighth child...and not the youngest. Beatrice was the 9th and youngest.

Princess Alice, Countess of Athelone, was the longestt living royal until Her Majesty Queen Elizabetth, the Queen Mother. Princess Alice died in 1981 at the age of 98.

Although you are right about that, the list is now Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester who lived to 102. The Queen Mother was second, Prince Philip third, Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone then Queen Elizabeth II.

You should do a video on the Welsh poet Hedd Wyn. It'll be a hit every time exam season comes around

Yeah, she wasn’t great. But I’d be willing to bet you at least know somebody with a control freak mother. She was a single mother with freaking 8 children at home. And, oh. She had to run a country. A big one. Alone. She did always do her best to make sure that they married for love, even though she needed to be careful who they did marry. It was Very political. But absolutely she was EXTREMELY self pitying, and self centered.

Yes she said babies looked like frogs and made nasty remarks about her daughter Helena 's looks. When Vicky got married she still tried to control her and told her to shun German culture. She made Alice's wedding all about her by insisting everyone wore black as she was in the throes of her ostentatious mourning, so the ceremony was noted as being more like a funeral as she dampened the atmosphere. Yet she scolded Vicky and Alice for being selfish for being distraught at losing toddler sons. She tried to stop Beatrice from getting married.

@@railwaychristina3192 These incidents don't prove she had no positive attributes though. It's very easy to list all the negative stories you've heard about someone without balancing that up though.
