Pal World has been in development for well over 3 years. If Nintendo didn't stop them when they released a trailer 3 years ago featuring many of the pals ppl are so pissed about they are not going to stop/sue them now.

Palworld was actually announced a good bit earlier. I don't know exactly when, but I added it to my wishlist back in September of 2021, and I came in at least a little late.

Other than the not-pokemon, it's further from a pokemon clone than the other monster catchers. This is more just a survival game that happens to have monster catching. It plays almost nothing like a pokemon game and I'm surprised it's caused this much controversy compared to the likes of TemTem, Cassette Beasts, Heartbeat, Nexomon, etc. Palworld exists more on its own and I'd happily play it alongside pokemon for two different experiences.

There will come a point where this game sends a message to Game Freak and starts copying elements from PalWorld to catch up. Future games from Pokèmon would play very similarly to PalWorld (minus the guns) and will abandon its turn based nature like how Final Fantasy abandoned theirs. The turn based combat will soon be a thing of the past, like how RTS, Isometric RPGs and such died out and only survives as a niche genre made by indies.

@@triadwarfare i highly doubt that. Sure, final fantasy dropped turn based. But dragon quest still is, smt still is, persona, the Digimon cyber sleuth games, Octopath, bravely, etrian odyssey, and many others are still big names that haven't deviated outside of side games for some of those franchises (raidou kuzunoha, etrian mystery dungeon, dragon quest builders/heroes/etc.), though then there's Yakuza 7 and 8 which are exceptions in the opposite direction, starting as beat em ups before becoming turn based rpgs. Turn based ain't dying any time soon.

@@rudorot65 it really depends if fans play Pokemon for turn based action or inspite of turned based action. Pokemon may have been the gateway RPG for some people, but for many others it is the only turn based game while they would much prefer real time action. Most people enjoy the concept of Pokemon more than the actual games themselves which leaves a void Palworld fills for many people. Pokemon is the highest grossing media franchise in the world; more money is made from merchandise than the games. Those people who like Pokemon enough to by merch, but don't like the games enough to own a Switch will be drawn to Palworld.

I think it’s caused a major fight because Pokemon fans were calling out Pocket Pair for allegedly ripping assets from some Pokemon or just Sonic OC’ing others, and in retaliation Palworld fans are claiming Pokemon fans are shills who can’t handle the fact that a small company made a better Pokemon game than Gamefreak, and it’s just cascaded from there. This whole thing has just been fucking embarrassing to watch unfold over the last week. If the models weren’t so close I doubt this would have been anywhere near the shitstorm it is right now.

I'm honestly just tired of hearing about Palworld. I'm happy for everyone who likes this kind of thing and is having fun playing the game, but I honestly have no interest in open world survival games with no story. I imagine a lot of the hate is from people like me to are sick of seeing it everywhere, but then you combine that with many people being unable to understand that different people can like different things and that their opinion isn't objective truth, and suddenly they need to come up with reasons why it's horrible. My advice to people in that situation: It's okay that it's not for you. Not everything has to be for you. Move on and enjoy something else.

I would never call palworld an outright clone. Gameplay systems, combat, and theming are far too different. The only thing it really share's is an artstyle choice and remember, gameplay, artstyle's and the like are NOT copyright. That's why there's like 10000 JRPG games with nearly the exact same gameplay. Now, granted, there are a some "Pals" who's designs look straight ripped off, but for every 1 of those, there's 2 or 3 that are unique. The artstyle does look similar though so if you shoved a Pal into the pokemon world, or viceversa, they would fit in just fine. What I like about pal world isn't really it, itself, but what it can do for the Monster Tamer genre moving forward. Pokemon has dominated the Monster Tamer genre for over 2 decades, almost 3. And the thing is, as much as love pokemon and own every game, the recent game's have gotten stale. Other franchises like Digimon were shut down early on in their lifespans because it was labelled a clone, like, tbh, pokemon fans don't really know what's a clone and what's actually not. Digimon the biggest case in point. What palworld proves is that there IS a market for Monster Tamer game's even with Pokemon's dominance and basically, what it will more than likely do is inspire other, more creative and unique franchises or developer's who have yet to make one, to create more game's in the genre.

Without Ultra Seven and Norman Bridwell's How to care for your Monster, there would be no notable monster franchises like Pokèmon, Megami Tensei, Monster Hunter or any other monster franchises.

It's mostly a survival game with Pokemon helpers. That's it. "Pokemon with guns" is missing the point. The only things that are blatantly Pokemon are the "Pal Spheres" that are clearly pokeballs. The Pal designs are close, but not close enough. Inspired, duh. Copied? No.

The issue is with a handful of the Pal models that appear to have been traced from Pokemon models ripped out of the games. There's a difference between being inspired by something and trying to rip it off. This is bad for the industry, because if Palworld can get away with copying 3D models from another studio and tweaking them slightly, then it undermines the integrity of the original and it means artists aren't being properly credited and their work is being used to make money without paying them. It also sets a precedent where any studio's work can be ripped off.

It's crazy how people would be mad about this game, especially when they aren't losing out because of it, they aren't the ones who made Pokemon lmao how can someone get so mad to send death threats for something that literally doesn't personally affect them. Those people need help and they also don't have to play the game at all. As a Pokemon super fan. PocketPair took what fans had asked pokemon for then added it to their game. Gamefreak messed up with S&V. The time between games has shown. The Pokemon Company can spread their plushies sales to another part of the company. So that the team can get more work in.

Nintendo is walking on thin ice considering how "original" their creatures are. Most of them are just existing animals with a twist. And the rest contains a large quantity of inanimate objects with a twist. Keckleon is just a bipedal yellow-lip Parson's chameleon, chibi-fied. Are they going to chameleon keepers and conservationists with those in logos and other materials??

I have never played any Pokémon games and barely seen any of the cartoon. Never was very interested because it seemed childish. I HAVE been playing the HELL out of Pal World. It is a very enjoyable gameplay loop. I haven’t even finished BG3 because of it.

Its clearly influenced by pokemon but its gameplay is very different and honestly far better. Im a PC gamer that has bought a switch just to play pokemon, and this game makes me realize just how much those games lack in original content. Palworld is in a different genre and just has the creature collecting subgenre. Its a survival game and a very beautiful looking one at that. Sone of the similarities are straight up parodies and thats not lazy or illegal, thats funny and well done. They did go a bit far on a couple though like the Eevee clone, that was lazy lol

Im a massive Pokémon fan. At least in regard to the TCG and VGC. Been playing since it was a competitive thing. And theres no denying alot of these creatures from this new thing are heavily influenced if not ripped off essentially. I think any rational person should be able to admit that. And that is a reasonable thing to critique. If none of them looked similar in any way, I dont think thered be any controversy for the most part.

Nintendo is better off just piggybacking off of Palworld's popularity and using it to boost the Pokemon franchise. If they really feel their intellectual property rights a have been infringed and sue Palworld and win it would open Nintendo iteself up to similar legal liability from other franchises it borrowed ideas and styles from. It's complicated because pokemon was a manga and an anime before it was a game. The entire thing seems very muddy and not worth uspetting potential current future customers over and not worth the legal expenses since it's not really a sure thing.

It's a total rip-off of pokemon, even to models and names. People just will pretend it isn't even get defensive of Pal World for it and say things like it's likely AIs fault for it instead of even if it was it would be their responsibility not to plagiarize and they did. The controversy of stealing art isn't new. Anime like No Game No Life did this. It likely doesn't just plagiarize on pokemon, though, but other games as well. They could've likely gotten away with this if it was their own art and models.

Something being similar is not how plagiarism works.` They did not take any of the Pokémon names or models. Their is also a reason most places have laws against monopoly's on concepts. 90% of the movies you see are the same movies with different names, place settings, and characters. Same exact story. This hardly has a story its more survival based and the fights are not similar. "the powers are similar" ya so is every other game in the world with element based powers.

I would be fine with palworld if Pals like Verdash, azerobe and Direhowl, weren't so obviously made using Pokemon models that have been altered and/or traced... and if some of the Pals weren't so blatant about copying Pokemon like Galade, Gardevoir, Decidueye, lucario and Raichu, wooloo etc. Palworld could have been 100% original monsters like the others you mentioned (tem tem, Digimon etc.) and avoided all this talk of legal action, but they've clearly ripped off the pokemon company.
