Thank you, Graham. You have saved my photography as I thought I had wasted my money buying a camera which seemed too complicated for my limited knowledge of camera. Your videos are brilliant, easy to understand and follow. Thank you so much.

Great video Graham 😊very informative and helpful, especially about the sharpness at f8 ! I've personally sruggled with that as on previous cameras I've shot at f8, f11 ect to get better sharpness and dept of field.

Remember its all to do with the size of sensor and its crop factor of 5.4 - meaning that the aperture equivalent at any focal length is 5.4 times that of the full frame camera - so f2.8 on the FZ80 gives the same DOF as F16 on a full frame camera.
@GeoffBeattie
@GeoffBeattie 6 жыл бұрын
Graham Houghton thanks for that reply, I had no idea it was calculated like this, so am I right in calculating that f8 is equivalent to f43? I shoot mostly sunrise/sunset landscapes, and nearly always on f8 for max dof. Hoping to get out this weekend so looking forward to trying this out :-)
@GrahamHoughton12
@GrahamHoughton12 6 жыл бұрын
Yes that's right but I would tend to avoid F8 in favour of F4 if you are shooting wide angle (20mm) as this is more than enough DOF and is the lens sharpest aperture at this FL.

As a beginner with the FZ 80, your tutorials are a blessing. I could not have managed without them. I shoot only jpeg and would like to know the settings to use when shooting in standard or natural mode if possible please.
@GrahamHoughton12

This adjustment to the photo styles is somewhat subjective and does depend on where you want to use your images. Images with small dimensions can stand +5 sharpening and -2 Noise reduction. Full size images can benefit from +2 sharpening and -2 noise reduction if no further post processing is wanted. If shooting with the natural photo style you may find that you will need to add contrast of +2 to the setting as well but this will depend upon subject and lighting conditions. It's much easier to do any fine tuning in a good image editor in my opinion

Another wonderful guide. Thanks so much, Graham. If possible, could you make a tutorial about taking pictures of birds or sports that require a faster shutter speed with this camera? I cannot get something acceptable especially when zooming in.

You may be suffering from two problems here. Lens softness due to diffraction and physical design and subject motion blur. I find beyond 900mm the lens tends to fall off in sharpness and hand holding requires some practice. I am currently doing a full lens evaluation to see just where it is best used/avoided.

Hello I want to thank you for the videos. I have a couple of questions that may not be specific to this video. Perhaps you have done a video on the choices available in setting up the camera. I look in the manual it is not helpful. When I look in the menu section it tells me that this camera is shooting in Raw. Raw is the only visible choice. I am trying to set this up for Jpeg, but can not find that choice. I am trying to set this up for someone new to photography and in Raw she would have to use a program to work with the image.... This is not viable at the moment. How do I program this camera for Jpeg? The second question is how can I shoot only in manual mode? Thank you very much.... Danbury in Colombia at the moment

I think that the GH5 is well covered by more professional content creators and that's why I have stayed clear of these high end cameras even though I do own some of them.

Graham Houghton most of them are shills or touts..for or against certain brands....not like yours which are more like “ how to” guides....I would like more of yours, like how to shoot a good video clip, lighting for video, night videography.also some of the post apps like lightroom, photoshop or premiere.

In an effort to increase my chances of getting a sharp image with my Fz 2500 I've been trying a few things. The camera group that I'm in chose the zoo for our last outing. All shots were either hand held or I've built a short - 12 ~ 20 in. - telescoping mono stick that screws into the camera which I'll rest on something solid if I have the opportunity. If I think the subject will be still enough, I'll use AS focus with a 2 sec. shutter time & hold my breath. If There's a likelihood the animal will move, I use FF focus with the shutter time delay turned off. I have the Fn4 button on top set as my focus & the shutter set to half press. Any suggestions you could pass on ? By watching your videos on Panasonic bridge cameras I've garnered lots of useful info. Thanks

The use of iISO is recommended by Panasonic as it is supposed to analyse any subject motion and increase the ISO to give a shutter speed fast enough to arrest that motion. I've have varying results using this but it might improve your "keep" rate. Otherwise the 1/focal length is the best rule to apply for getting a shutter speed that will help prevent subject motion blur

Really great video graham, thanks for sharing, when you're entering competitions , what should you shoot in ? Jpg or raw & what is the difference ?
@GrahamHoughton12
@GrahamHoughton12 5 жыл бұрын
RAW is the sensor data with a blue print of how to construct the final image. It contains far more colour information and exposure latitude. You should, with some practice, be able to get a better image than the camera processed JPEG (which it does from the same RAW file). Initially you may find that the camera does a better job!
