Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a 1986 American teen comedy film written, co-produced and directed by John Hughes, and co-produced by Tom Jacobson. The film stars Matthew Broderick as Ferris Bueller, a high-school slacker who spends a day off from school, with Mia Sara and Alan Ruck. Ferris regularly "breaks the fourth wall" to explain techniques and inner thoughts.
Hughes wrote the screenplay in less than a week. Filming began in September 1985 and finished in November 1985. Featuring many landmarks, including the Sears Tower and the Art Institute of Chicago, the film was Hughes' love letter to Chicago: "I really wanted to capture as much of Chicago as I could. Not just in the architecture and landscape, but the spirit."
Released by Paramount Pictures on June 11, 1986, the film became one of the top-grossing films of the year, receiving $70.1 million over a $5.8 million budget, and was enthusiastically acclaimed by critics and audiences alike. In 2014, the film was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

I like Cameron and Sloan’s friendship. That little scene they have together about the future is a great little back and forth.

My mom worked as a secretary downtown when the parade was being filmed. She could see it out of the window of her desk and got to see the whole thing. I thought that was pretty awesome 💙

The construction worker and the window washer dancing were not a planned part of the movie. They were just there when they were filming. I think it’s great!

Ferris defines you can do anything what you want by just enjoying the moment at its finest, anyway life’s too short.

Just recently rewatched this movie for the first time in years. It's a PERFECT movie. Like every scene is incredible. John Hughes was an INSANE talent.

This scene perfectly encapsulates why older movies are better than what's being made today. Studios would never take a chance on having this many actual human beings in a single scene. If they can't CGI it, it's not happening. Not to mention the emotion conveyed in the scene. Today, you're either supposed to laugh at weak, elementary humor, or feel crippling sadness. Happiness isn't something studios today want you to feel.

My dad used to call me Ferris Beuller growing up because no matter what I did, things always seemed to work out for me. Such nostalgia.
