New PC player here. Thank you for the info, I was massively confused why my parries weren't working. Turns out the Perfect Parry window is active way before the strike reaches you.

Thanks for the guide, this is great! My best guess about the oni lord teleporting lunge is that the enemy has an AoE hurtbox around it. This attack often clips you without the spear itself touching. This would suggest that not only timing but positioning of your character is important so you don't get hit by the AoE while trying to parry the spear.

Yeh bro ive also noticed that that oni teleporting lunge is the hardest to parry, timing is different, all i can say is parry a few frames earlier 💪 (earlier than all the other enemy halberd lunges)

I don’t think these are entirely correct, unless there is different parry timings in other difficulties, I always land perfect parry’s on the END of the attack, not during or the middle of it. Always the END, same with perfect dodge. Could be because I play on hard and lethal difficulty

I haven't seen any difference in window length based by difficulty. But your experience makes sense, with reaction speed, input lag and display lag, there is some level of everyone having to find their own "frame number".

Hey Deki, I haven't done the research to see how the perfect dodge window works exactly yet, so can't say anything with certainty. I'm guessing it has a pretty similar window but likely doesn't change from adding perfect parry window

I believe that the dodge window is the same as the standard parry window. It is just a little harder to input a dodge.

Just getting into the game so thank you for your work. Real quick while I have the quest in my head. So you have a block window that becomes a red hit window with a unblockable hit coming at you. What does that mean though in terms of holding block? Like does that mean if holding block at all during this start up phase it would automatically become a hit window and thus preventing the Perry and following perfect parry windows as you would be already prematurely hit and the sudden end of the move progressing? Basically I have been playing with always trying to hold block when I can and quickly releasing it and then pushing it again quickly to parry. How and what effect on pairing does the l1 being hold down during and before the first phase of the attack affect the outcomes? Also if I was holding block, at what point would I have to let go of it to be able to try and input the 8th frame perfect parry window?

Good question! It's been a long while since I researched all of this, and I can't remember if I had an answer to that one or not. If I had to venture a guess from memory: Holding block ahead of time shouldn't stop you from doing a perfect parry, you'll just need to release it for a little bit before doing the perfect parry. You don't want to be holding block during the normal parry window or you'll do a normal parry (or take damage for blue glinting attacks) I could be wrong though, I'd recommend trying it out and seeing how it goes 😄

I like your videos. Unfortunately I’m 100% sure that you were working with a display with considerable delay/lag. I myself played with both: a big Samsung TV with delay and a cheap computer monitor with no delay on which I probably did several hundred hours GoT on. I purify cursed items with perfect dodges and perfect parries, and I re-roll many daily challenges to perfect parries and dodges. I do those parries in batches of 25 against survival gold enemies (cancel the counterattack on parries). The point you call action point is actually the end of the perfect parry window. There is no damage window before that point. It only looks like that on a display with delay, where that point has actually passed already, but you didn’t see it yet, because the display is processing/delaying video (and audio) or lagging for some other reason. This is also the reason why you could not observe the perfect parry window extending into the damage window, because it does not exist. On a display with no lag/delay it is obviously easier to react on that window, because once you know the attack pattern you can predict the action point visually and audibly. I try hard to press the button the moment I expect the enemy’s blade to touch my character. It is true to train this best without parry window enhancement, because I observed that I otherwise get proficient with hitting the exact beginning of the window, i.e. _only_ the enhanced part of it. I never noticed a difference for the numbers in the perfect parry window attribute: 7-12% feels more like “window enhanced” and numbers too low feel like “not enhanced”. - Similar with cursed items with negative perfect parry windows. Whenever they are on it makes it really hard to hit that window. The dodge window seems to always be like the normal parry window in size. The red bear attack can be perfectly dodged, btw. ;-) The spear onis feel indeed harder to parry. I believe that is also related to some of their attack animations, where they scoot over to you and are supposed to hit you at the end of the scoot. But regularly they start that animation closer to you where they visually hit you earlier than the end of the animation. You need to parry those as if they would come from further away... I think. Not all red attacks can be (perfectly) dodged, including (only?) those area-of-effect (AoE) attacks. The spear onis do have those, but also have dodgable red attacks.

Hey Bob! Just responding to this now 😄 only a year late ha. Yea I think display lag is definitely a factor, especially with PC folks starting to play now. I do believe the logic all still stands, but folks will have to shift which "frame" based on their individual combination of display, input and reaction lag/timing.

I'm sorry to say so with how much work this must have taken, but I think bob and marius are right. I'm reasonably sure the perfect parry window actually is way, way later than you show, almost right at the time of impact. Still a useful resource though, one just has to adjust for the delay (or absence of it) in one's setup. So thank you.

Yep, for sure, I think given each individual's own display, input and reaction lag/timing, folks will want to adjust/shift a few frames before or after. But once they find which one matches their experience, the logic should still all hold.

Still find it next to impossible reliably perfect parry on Lethal. Dodge is even worse. It's just not happening. Even with Surukami armor and the charm.

Sekiro has to be the hardest perfect parry game, I bought sekiro because I thought it was GOT and I almost rage quit multiple times. GOT and God of War are my goats

bruh. I paused the at the 3. minute to write down this comment. I am an old batman games player. You are knowing it better than me, its just button shows and you push it. I couldn't find time to play dark souls or sekiro games properly. Only first missions. I loved GoT in first sight 8 days ago. first ryuzo fight took me so so so long that I couldn't do 3 perfect parries (like he never does a red move that you have to dodge or not adding red to red, red to blue). Failed so so many times I don't want to say it but it's over 1000+ times no jokes. actually I played it so many times because trying to get gud. Because I can't do 3 perfect parry (also his ai is so good changing his attacks around your plays). I even written a guide that shows you can kill him without any perfect parries. 0 upvotes. noone didn't care about my guide in 24 hours except: 3 sekiro players humilated me. I thank to one of them. I opened stream and he explained this parry thing. Hours and hours trying to learn it. Searching sources. I got better in same time but with third humilation "dude cannot do 3 parries and 3 heavenly strikes and wrote an essay about it" comment made me delete all my guide and comments. I lost my all appetite to few young internet ronins. I gave up. Not gonna post any video or guide. Not gonna talk how noob I am. I feel so down. Then found your video. JUST WANTED TO thank you bruh. Finally a good and helpfull source.

btw I don't think my parries are so bad after fighting ryuzo even I defeat them so many times I kept fighting with him countless times... But comments like 3 parries and 3 strikes killing me inside. And I have challenged them to just record a video or stream it to show me how it is done this quick and easy, non of them show up. I am not a hardcore player but I like to play this in LETHAL mode. I have checked old ps clips RYUZO on LETHAL first duel. It's not like in my game right now. Also I have found out that both of that sekiro players playing pirated version, I am still on suspecion sony changed somethings in 3 patches but not saying it. There are only 4-5 videos on LETHAL at RYUZO duel at youtube. one is mine. I got recorded one perfect fight video also.

I didn't had any more problems with few upgrade in next duels (I am around the finish chapter 2. But still trying to improve my gameplay at ryuzo save.) But I am challenging anyone who can just do 3 perfect parries at first ryuzo duel and finishes it this fast like those young guys humilated me; video or didn't happen. I hope most of will understand me when they have failed ryuzo and weaken the difficulty. Three perfect parries, do it please. But in short time. He doesn't even attack with an attack that you can parry in first phases....
