Thanks for the note Ly! I loved being a banker I was perhaps just not as aware of the 'total cost' (e.g. the toll it took on my personal life). I would not have changed anything though, it was a great learning experience and very fortunate to have had banking as a 3 year job and not a 30 year career. Its important to do what you like, that is how you will become great at something - network, wealth, success, power, etc will come from there. Best of luck!

I like how all these ted talk people keep saying we should chase our dreams and how they just drop their lives and focus on their dreams. I'd like to know how we are suppose to do that when we don't have rich parents to carry us. If I give up my job to follow a dream I don't get to eat any more.

Jaded Pony Sometimes you have to go the long way around by sacrificing half (or even more) of your time to survive, but it does not mean your dreams aren't valid and that you can't work for it. Espacially nowadays as knowlege ressources are more accessible. I agree that it's harder for most of us, but in the end having it hard also makes you tougher and more experienced.
Thank you! There are two versions of this talk up, one in 3D, one in 2D. Splits the views a bit. Appreciate you watching the vid and giving feedback.

I have an issue: I am proud of what I do, but I'm not proud of who I am. I never learned that trade. According to my mother (I don't talk with her a lot) I'm always trying to prove myself. (like this post!) I'm not rich, I just teach English in Vietnam and I do it differently so that even the bad pupils make effort to understand me and improve their English. These young people here get an overload of structure but no point to connect their lessons to. Besides telling them time and again about pronunciation (that is why they have a foreign teacher) I sometimes try to link to their education to the future. I'm proud of what I do. But who am I? I loved a girl in primary school but never dared talk to her. My heart was not touched until I finally met her on FB and I told her about my broken heart 36 years later. My heart was healed and within two months I fell in love again. Now the only person in the world who hates me is the one I respect/adore the most. I tried, I was positive but I did not trust myself. It's like all negative experiences from the past (I tried and failed many times) accumulated. I'm a good person (everyone except one knows it!) and I prove myself all the time, but when I want anything just to have a chance of being happy, life shoots me down. I'm 44. I tried and I failed. By now all I see is personal failure. Been there, Done that.

Kevin, thanks for the inspiration. How did you like being in an investment banker? If you could turn back time, would you still make the same decision of getting into the top 10%? A lot of students who are fresh out of college undermine the value of a stable career and go full speed at the one they want. But honestly, I am struggling and I find it difficult to do what I love without a stable base of network, wealth and power.

Easy for him to say, he can afford to just "stop working" to chase his dream?
