THE PENDLE WITCHES WAY | Pendle Hill Wild Camping | Pendle Witch Trials
Before starting this hike I had lots of questions.. Who were the 10 Pendle Witches? Where are the witches of Pendle buried? Is Pendle hill a difficult walk?
All of these and more were answered on my adventures along The Pendle Witches Way. The trail is 46 miles long, starting in Sabden where you spend the first day visiting the locations around Pendle hill that were associated with the Pendle Witches and culminating with a spooky wild camp on top of the infamous Pendle Hill!
The trail then passes through the Ribble Valley and the Forest Of Bowland, the route taken by the accused before they were executed in Lancaster where the trail ends.
Not only did we get to appreciate the stunning Lancashire countryside, we also found out a lot about the history of the Pendle Witch trails. Who were the 10 Pendle Witches and what is Pendle hill famous for?

For this trail I used a Big Agnes Copper Spur hv ul2 tent, Meindel hiking boots, Manfrotto tripod, I Phone 13 pro max, Katadyn be free filter, thermarest neoair lite and an Osprey Fairview 55 backpack

It’s such a great area! It’s just extremely windy up there, but we found a little dip to put the tents in that offered a bit of shielding x views were incredible in the morning!

What a prefect name for a lane but I can see why and real pleased I am not having to smell why😣. Loved the background history of the Pendle Witches, the views were amazing and a real cheery chappie as a hiking partner, although, not keen on the heavy breathing 🤣. Loved the old church and graveyard, especially the Alice Nutter tomb and just as well you got some Dutch courage before you hit the top of Pendle Hill, that looked a canny pull mind! Cheers Alan

Here in Norwich Norfolk we have The medieval Norwich bridge haunted by the spirit of a tortured 'witch' Fye Bridge was used as a place for trialling women suspected of practising magic So it's kind of interesting how different parts of the UK associate with witchcraft back in the olden days

Awesome area - I grew up in Higham, the home of Anne Whittle - and the summit of Pendle Hill was the site of my first wild camp on Halloween - unfortunately no ghosts, only a ranger who told me off for not having the right equipment; a very good lesson so thankful!

Once you get to the top of the steps climbing up, climb over the stone wall using the steps and then head downhill to the right and it is there 😁 I’m afraid I don’t have co-ordinates though 🙈
