Other than the holocaust comparission, the other ultimate sick and bad extreme is "George Lucas raped our childhood" claim. Dude, out of the millions of passionate Star Wars fans in the world I bet that several thousands of them suffered of being sexually raped or abused at some point in their lives and they won't dare to compare at all the pain and trauma caused from it to whatever disgust that the Special Edition changes made them felt, even more so if they happened to be victims of it at their childhood.

It’s just history repeating itself. Fans back then were begging for the og cuts. Fans now are begging for the sequels to be erased from canon. The thing is though, the fans who want the OG cuts are right. It’s basic film preservation. Not releasing them is almost like erasing history. It’s fine to have new cuts of movies (Ridley Scott has like five different cuts of Blade Runner, and most people like his newest one the best!) but to forbid the public from seeing an original work of art that inspired fans for twenty years (that’s long enough for a Star Wars fan from ‘77 to have a kid and raise them on the original cuts too) is borderline dystopian.

No, the vast majority of those aren't true fans. They're casual Prequel haters masquerading as "true fans". Most only like the original trilogy and even then, just one film in the original trilogy - Ep. 5 -TESB. They only like[d] small bits and pieces of the entire STAR WARS universe. They treat[ed] STAR WARS like a salad bar, cherry picking only the small bits they like and ignoring/discarding all the rest. So they all banded together and followed people like the ones who made this film and other STAR WARS know-nothing casuals who had a loud criticizing "voice" on public platforms like KZbin _[looking at you RedLetterMedia, Collider, John Campea etc. etc.]_ and they began the whole "Let's get rid of Lucas!" chant/mantra and were the ones who rolled out the red carpet to Di$ney, welcoming them with open arms. They were told long before that getting rid of Lucas and bullying him into selling off his creations to outsiders was going to be a monumental mistake but, they didn't listen. They just got drunk on the full blown hype they created for "Di$ney Wars" and now, they're the ones crying about how bad STAR WARS has become in such a short time... All while *NEVER* admitting _[but still silently realizing]_ that *THEY,* not the *_TRUE_* fans who stood by Lucas _[despite his flaws and failures with the Prequels],_ were and still are the *ONLY* ones responsible for the demise and death of STAR WARS...

Sometimes I wonder if its kind of like nostalgia retro gaming and that's why they can't enjoy anything . So I grew up with Nintendo. Great memories ( symbolic of any kids entry into their love of SW in any part of the saga) and as the years go by , u get the opportunity to play that old game again or maybe even a new game is released, but the mechanics , graphics or whatever are based on that old classic. The nostalgia hits , but its over very quickly. I've replayed old school games and thiscis the case where I'm bored after 15 mins because since thst time you've been exposed to better advanced games and products. Fans want that hit like the first time, and SW simply can not deliver. I love star wars as one giant story , Its immense. But I've always said as individual films and shows they don't tend to be executed particually well , but the overarching story over time is fantastic . There are simply a large swath of other franchises & films that are say smaller in scope , but the delivery is solid . Great films u can watch again and again. I find alot of SW lacks a rewarch factor . But it all still contributes to this big story.

Plus, before Disney brought Lucasfilm, Pablo Hidalgo (a Lucasfilm creative executive) was always referring to the EU when he was asked about specific details about certain characters. Leland Chee, an expert on the EU, was originally tasked with making sure the Clone Wars TV show stayed in line with the "C-canon", which included the EU. For further explanation, "T-Canon" (which is higher than C-canon) was specifically created so that TCW had creative freedom to do whatever, so objectively speaking Seasons 1-6 of TCW was canon to the EU. TCW was also borrowing a lot of ideas from the EU, along with the Mando-verse era anyways. You can't say something didn't mattered if it is still being used for resources.

George was someone who self-funded, wrote, produced, directed, and edited his own films with his own company... founder of Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic, Skywalker Sound, Pixar Animations. (to name a few) He went on to reconstruct culture and filmmaking as we know it, and dawned the digital film era which has given artists more tools to create film than at any time in the history of the craft. A technologist for the sake of helping humans express themselves and to create things he could only dream of. A fierce defender of a filmmaker's right to their own intellectual property, fought tooth and nail with Hollywood to make the films the way he wanted them to be made. He called out the hypocrisy of studios for destroying the silent film era products and helped found the National Film Registry in the USA. If an artist or a piece of their work is to be judged by how well they accomplished their goal, George went above and beyond his peers. He did this all while being a single father and raising three children and pledged to give back a majority of his wealth through the Bill Gates Foundation. This documentary is honestly shameful. George is a masterful creative and a directorial genius. It’s honestly sad how people reacted to the prequels. While not perfect films, the story they told was cohesive, in-depth, and fascinating. Not to mention the groundbreaking effects (also, each individual prequel has more practical effects than the entire original trilogy combined) that revolutionized cgi and filmmaking. Some Star Wars fans are really the most pretentious and self absorbed people; being angry with a creator for altering their work post-release. Every creator in history has changed their art, from paintings to novels to films. Only SW fans complain though. The special editions are the films and the prequels are phenomenal. Wish fans could’ve seen that back then and maybe we wouldn’t be stuck with the sequels.
@dbreiden8308011 ай бұрын
Oh, stop it. The prequels told a good story? Let me guess because you became a big fan of the clone wars cartoon years later? Episodes 1, and 2 are complete garbage. Everything from the acting, to the story, to the PlayStation like effects and lifeless action scenes.. And I live through it. Trust me the fans really disliked them at the time. And we may well see people have a different opinion of the sequels in 20 years the way this is going. Because I never thought I’d see the day pretty much anyone would defend those prequels.
@fabioj235311 ай бұрын
@@dbreiden83080 yes, the prequels told a strong, clear and cohesive story. The plot was very focused and evident with no major contrivances through all three epsiodes as we watch the Phantom Menace slowly rise to power while seducing the chosen one to the dark side; dismantling the Jedi order and republic in his path. I have never watched the Clone Wars television show and I was alive to see all three prequels release into theaters. Only a vocal minority of the fanbase really didn’t like the films; largely years after the fact due to KZbinrs like RLM stating blatantly obvious lies while also being too dumb to even comprehend the basic outline of the plot. Actual intelligent critics like Roger Ebert thoroughly enjoyed the prequels upon their releases. Sorry George actually told a compelling story with themes and motifs; rather than just re-telling the same story over again with plot redundancies such as “palpatine has somehow returned.” The prequels aren’t as well made as the original trilogy, but they have 1000x the amount of heart, character, and creativity than the Disney sequels could even dream of.

@@fabioj2353 "Only a vocal minority of the fanbase really didn’t like the films" If that were true explain the dogshit reviews in 1999 and 2002? The millions of fans expressing then and now how bad they were? The bottom line is adult SW fans mostly hated those films. Those fans in their 40's and 50's still hate them.. I was there buddy that is 100% accurate.. Hell the news media was right there interviewing fans coming out of the movie as they expressed their horror as just how disappointed they were.. In disbelief that Lucas blew it so badly.. Years later Kids that grew up with the prequels rose up to defend them as they became adults.. Now lets be clear I hated the last 2 sequels but watch the same shit happen again as the years go on.. I say this because kids my Nephews age loved them.. If you really think Episode 1 is a compelling story when it features essentially a talking rabbit nobody can understand, gave Obi Wan a bland boring mentor to guide us through a story while Obi Wan mostly hangs out on the ship with zero interesting to do or say congrats.. Oh yes and lets NOT forget the big light saber fight with a cool looking villain that had 1 line of dialogue and we know nothing whatsoever about other than he looks dangerous.. What a story...
@fabioj235311 ай бұрын
@@dbreiden83080 you’re being a bit biased and pretentious. The reviews were simply not “dogshit”, they were largely mixed. If you watch the out of theater reactions the vast majority are positive or mixed; with only a few extreme negative responses. The large portion of people I’ve spoken to or seen reviews of either love them or don’t mind them. Similarly, if you watch reviews of the original trilogy, there were many who had the same negative perspectives. “It’s all special effects! No real acting or story! Dry and terrible dialogue.” The negative responses were just highlighted far more often due to social media and the internet. At least the prequels, whether you like them or not, did not hamper or disrespect the original trilogy or characters that came before. Lucas absolutely did his best to maintain a cohesive story throughout the six films. Also, the point of the first episode isn’t to focus on Obi-Wan. It’s entirely to focus on the dual of the fates and Anakin’s start to his journey. Qui-Gon is a wise and intelligent Jedi who, as we see, isn’t on the council due to his differing perspectives on the force and training. He’s even willing to completely disobey the order to take on Anakin as his apprentice. It’s also clear from the get go that Obi-Wan sides with the order and not his own master; disliking Anakin immediately. “Why do I sense we have picked up another pathetic life form.” “The boy is dangerous they all sense it why can’t you?” It’s called the phantom menace and the final battle is the dual of the fates due to the fact that palpatine is slowly gaining power in the senate to eventually take over; while if Qui-Gon dies, Anakin will absolutely fulfill his destiny of turning to the dark side. Had Qui-Gon survived, Anakin would’ve been allowed to use his emotions and attempt to save the people he loved like his mother and padme. It is Obi-Wan’s/the Jedi’s distaste/distrust for anakin, Palpatine’s now fatherly role for anakin in light of Qui-Gon passing, and the lack of the Jedi’s sympathy and acceptance of emotions like love that causes Anakin to fall to the dark side. Not to mention how amazing the underwater gungan city is, how awesome Naboo is, the entire Pod Racing sequence, and getting to see the Jedi order/Coruscant in their prime. I can accept if you don’t enjoy them but they’re genuinely compelling films and stories.
