The tipoff for me was the cake scene. It resonated with me that she really had a mean/evil side, as well as a potential nod to Marie Antoinette's disassociation with reality. Ok I thought they were setting it up for Greer to have confessed to the crime. I thought the twist was going to be that because she is a professional mystery writer, Greer was going to figure out who did it before the detectives. It would be her youngest, favourite son, Will, well meaning to protect his father or his mother. Greer was going to figure out this out and confess so that her youngest son would be free. Remember she told her husband Tag that if anything happened to their youngest son Will she would never forgive him? I think it would have made for a much stronger ending. Greer's change of heart at the end felt very rushed IMO as well as her own backstory. It didn't seem to add to the story other than misdirection. I would have rather seen her deepen her self sacrificing mother character to the extreme.
@netsudro2 ай бұрын
Just finished watching it. It was a little too "mysterious" for me. Subverting expectations is the name of the game. - Abby's plan was kind of lame - I didn't see when Abby found out that Merritt was pregnant - She took a random pill for what? She knew what it was? - She killed her right in front of the house where anyone could see her. - The next day Shooter Dival was running away from the island. Why? - Knowone seemed to care Merritt was murdered (except Amelia) giving incomplete information to the police. - The police was totally incompetent not searching the home (the crime scene) - Will (the young sun) seemed kind of "special". The whole scene when he cut his hand is ridiculous. - The scene when Greer said she is "cleaning up" Tag's mess, what was that about? - Amelia had nothing to do the last 2 episodes so she became dumb and confused
@bellissima782 ай бұрын

- its not that hard to guess she was pregnant. She was not drinking at a wedding. She was right there, and then she only had to observe the Greer. Nobody told her that her husband was cheating either, but she knew - random pill, yes. Maybe she knew what it was, coz she has gotten used to pill roulette thing. Maybe she made it a point to research pills exaclty coz of that. - yes, anyone could have seen her, but nobody did. You always had to take a risk. I mean, everybody execpt the two pregnant ladies were pretty drunk - Coz he didnt want to be questioned about the money. Maybe he thought what the police thought, that Greer paid that money to get Merritt killed - Ofcourse NOBODY except Amelia cared. They are rich, snobbish people full of themselves. Used to buying their way out of everything. (In fact, I was pretty pissed off at the end, coz all them seemed to carrying out their lives with no thought of Merritt OR Abby (who is carrying their baby)). - Will had a crush on Merritt. He just learnt that his OWN father was having an affair with her, AND that she is pregnant. Which teenager wont be upset and distracted? He was frustrated, pissed and annoyed when he tried to open the oyster with it. Ofcourse he cut himself. - She was talking about the mess about Mae, paying her off. - yes, she was confused

Spoilers ahead // I never doubted that Greer was the one who engineered the whole thing by framing someone else for the murder. Greer even lets us know of her motive by admiting to Amelia at the end that she was jealous. We are led to assume that she means of Amelia's relationship with Benji, but in restrospect, there was so much more that she was jealous of: Amelia's "stealing" her son away from her, Merritt's influence over her husband (threatening their status as the perfect couple) but most of all the close bond that Amelia and Merritt shared together. Greer could not stand the spotlight being taken away from her for even one second. Her mind was set on eliminating her competition (ie the women in her husband's and sons' lives). The only women she tolerated were the ones who helped the men when Greer couldn't. They were useful to her and not a threat: Gosia as the help, Isabel as a money lender with no expectation, and more recently the detective's daughter, as a way to ensure that the local police would continue to be under the family's influence. We saw how Greer tried to get the male detective to like her throughout the series, and for a while there at the bar, we are made to feel like they have this mutual attraction. Can he actually be objective? Hint: nope. At the end of the show, all the men in Greer's life are essentially back where she wants them, and her status as the head of the household is undisputed. Greer managed to make it so that no money ends up in the hands of anyone not related to her by blood (something we are told by Shooter's father is important to rich people). Even Shooter himself will no longer be welcome in the family after he ruined his relationship with Benji, strengthening Greer's status as the glue that holds everything together. Greer will most likely continue to say that Shooter is like a son to her, most of all because he can definitely help with money. Oh, and is easy on the eyes too lol. The only time the status quo is slightly at risk is when Tag lets out that he's upset that Greer tried to frame him for her crime. Her husband would know best about her intentions surely. The pace of Greer' character development at the end was so rushed it had to be fake (no one goes from being this controlling to admitting to their dark past publicly thereby making themselves vulnerable as fast as she did and stays credible). That story with the mafia-type hitman being her brother? Please. The way detectives and Greer's family and colleagues were so quick to believe that the two were related, it was a bit ridiculous. Her admission was just a distraction, and it worked. And how pregnant Abby could just physically overpower Merritt as if it were nothing? Didn't buy it either. Police was so ready to arrest her, even though she was the least likely suspect. To be fair, everyone in that house had motives to get rid of Merrittn including Abby, but that montage at the end where we see her pushing Merritt down seemed far-fetched, whereas Greer gives off this creepy vibe the whole time. About that glass Abby was cleaning: could it simply be that she was worried that her fingerprints might give away the fact that she was among the last people to see Merritt alive when they had a drink on the beach? Or was Abby embarrassed that she had a drink while pregnant (that girl sure looked like she missed her drink) and tried to get rid of the evidence? Hint: it sure could. The end reveal felt fake anyways, but that's probably because it was. Greer came out unscathed and wanted to let Amelia know about it at the end, which is why it seemed important to her that Amelia read her manuscript. What's the point in winning if no one knows about it right? Typical psychopath bs.

Still think Nicole did it out of vengeance bc of a scene when they flashed back, she was in the kitchen and saw Merrett cut her foot through the window and then showed her kinda leaving franticly. So she must have did it bc she either saw her chance or seen who did it but never said. Just so many loose ends really.

And… the watch study from Tag to the detectives showed she did leave around the drugging timeline. Just saying.

I really liked this show kept me guessing every episode I thought it was someone else who did it almost haha

The ending was disappointing. I was rooting for the maid being the killer. Its usually the person you see least and she was so in love with the father. That would have been better and left the whole unlikable family intact.

Great cast, good storyline but I easily guessed who did it in the first episode. Interesting to know if there will be another series?

From the second I saw Dakota fanning, I said out loud “she is just so unlikable.” 😂

First episode I actually told my wife that it’s Abby coz it’s always someone you least expect. I don’t really have anything to back it up. I was right all along. Her money was on tag - too obvious.
@PassiveAgressive319Ай бұрын
I have to say, I questioned the casting of Dakota Fanning’s as she came off as a one note, ‘mean girl’ villain. So it a actually makes sense it was Abby😊

It didn't have to be explained this was so stupid I knew DF did it three episodes in.😂

Great series, only suspected it was Abby when the toxicology report found tallow on Merritt's hair shaft

Fun series. I’m usually good at figuring out who did it but I did not suspect Abby. The ending did fall a little flat.

Amelia's mom should be in prison 100%. Her getting away with carrying around suicide pill is a felony. I'm so glad that was in the last episode because I would of not continued watching because of that colossal legal oversight. It was a great murder mystery up to that point, though.

The trust fund rules were weird and made no sense. Why not give every kid their money once they turned 18?

Then it wouldn’t have been split evenly.

The bastard who wrote the rules also had a fetish for incestual murder.

@@casebased8391How not? There were 3 legitimate sons. There are tons of ways to stipulate the trust. Noobs or out of wedlock don't have to count for the trust. That child would get general support. So it was a bit far fetched to create a storyline.
@casebased83912 ай бұрын
@@bellissima78 The amount in the trust fund can change over time, so the 3 “legitimate” sons won’t get an equal amount once they hit 18. Secondly, the fourth child is just as much as his son as the other 3, so why should he just get “general support” lol.
@benrom9162 ай бұрын
@@soapgirlsrule because is more fun that way. Not even the Dad will ever have full access to all the funds in his own trust fund. That's why his wife kept writing so many books.

Thank you so much for the deep dive. This sounds so dumb. The premise is "nobody get nada" until the last kid turns 18? What if the dad is still out there having secret babies well into old age? What if this guy's son/daughter ends up with a brother or sister who is decades younger than them? What then? The trust fund baby could be incredibly old before they get their money.
@silentsaturn76042 ай бұрын
Well then they don't get anything till then. Obviously the idea is that he only has children with his wife who eventually gets too old for children.
