Great video, my old coach said people who hit with there arms and upper body are duffers and slices, people who hit with there pelvis and legs are players! I always think that before I swing, works for me!

That's very true. It's a key component to great ball striking.

Love your videos because you don’t spend ten plus minutes on a buildup for a pretty quick tip. I’ve watched a dozen videos on this topic (it’s currently the biggest problem in my game for me to be consistent with), and this is the only one that’s been under ten minutes. Keep up the good work!

@@meandmygolf. went to the driving range today and worked on this. I worked on separating the upper and lower body as well as adding a count for the transition. I didn’t quite get it on the driving range. If anything, I went too far the other way and pulled a lot pretty far left. I followed it up with 18 holes and started getting it. It finally clicked on the 15th hole. Got all four final greens in regulation. 👍 The best part for me is seeing videos with drills that I can take to the range that provide me some sort of feedback I can see/feel on my own. I took a few lessons and the coach I had kept telling me I needed to do things I already knew I was supposed to do, but didn’t give me much help on showing me how to know when I was doing it right. Having some sort of feedback mechanism really helps. Thanks!

@@meandmygolf.I went to The Masters in 2009. I recall seeing swing coaches/caddies placing a club/stick on the heads of the best ball strikers in golf. At the time I knew why they were doing so, but now I don’t recall. However, I recall thinking to myself that someone had the club placed on my head throughout the swing and I never hit irons so crisp and far as I did that year in 2009. Can you do a segment on that drill- the purpose of that drill and why even many of the best players in the world were going through that drill? Thank you

Worked on this today. Separating the hips. Also worked on leaning the shaft forward. Was hitting them sweet on the range then I broke my 7iron. Second club I’ve broken since watching your videos hahahaha it’s ok. I have a new set on the way anyway.

Great content as usual chaps. I found a way of understanding this was to take a gentle swing with weight more on the trail foot, and then switch to the lead foot to see where the club head lands. The transition is gold dust and have found it through plenty of swing practice... The front room carpet will soon need replacing but was well worth it. Ball compression feels owesome.

Could you please do the second AND in the finish position to finish out the measure? Those of us who play music feel we are left unfinished in the swing.

Firstly, I want to preface by saying that I absolutely love your videos, and always look for new content notifications! That being said, while this is a great drill, it's not perfect for everyone, at least not for me, as a vertically challenged (5'7") golfer. I had been using something fairly similar for a couple of years, and it mostly led to massive smother hooks. Shorter people I think need a drill or "key" that is less "vertical", and more "rotary". A swing "thought" that works for me, is more of an "L" shaped thought, where I'm always trying to rotate with the club handle leading (dragging?) around my lead hip. This works especially well for pitch shots ( I never "chip" in a conventional sense, as this leads to me stabbing the ground behind the ball. Instead, all of my short shots around the green are more of a "pitch" type using the L swing key). I'm not sure if I've conveyed my swing thought, but just wanted to throw in some feedback from a vertically challenged golfer!

Hi David. Thanks for the comment! Glad you like the videos. Agreed this may not work for some. The key thing for my lesson was that he was struggling to get the "shift". It is key that you still rotate through as it will help manage the club face better. 👍🏻

How do you guys feel about the "hip bump" in the setup to help get to this line that you talk about instead of shifting a lot in the downswing?
@meandmygolf. Жыл бұрын
You can favour the weight slightly on the lead leg. You just have to be careful when you hip bump to make sure you don't tilt back with the upper body this will cancel out what you are trying to achieve.
@jack-xf6il Жыл бұрын
I'm a beginner and quite poor so far at golf, but I've noticed that when coaches rehearse the shift of weight forward their head moves forward, but when they do the actual stroke, their head remains steady. People should not think that they have to move their body forward (towards the target) in order to get the weight shift, I think the weight shift comes mostly from the forward movement of the hips at the start of the downswing and the rotation of the body around the spine.

My "AND actually was wayyy too much, and I had a ton of lateral shift which left me with a constantly open face. I had to actually do the opposite and have less transition, to straighten out my ball flight. But, with that said, it is essential for good ball striking. Key thing is when you practice the transition, remember to keep your head semi behind the ball before impact. That changed my game!!
@terryd89 Жыл бұрын
I had the same problem recently as I overcorrected some hitting behind the ball issues. Realized that I had a weak grip and lead wrist was allowing face to stay open. Started using a stronger grip and using my lead wrist a little to close face and all is better now. Still working on all of it, but hitting ball better than ever.
@shmirginhymer1867 Жыл бұрын
@terrydet7402 I stopped trying to manipulate my wrist for face closure as it caused way too much hesitation and inconsistencies in my swing. So I just focus on keeping my head still, and play ALL my irons one ball forward in my stance. And from there I can play a cut or a draw and am loving it.

I'm sure aware of "recentering" towards the top of the backswing. Apparently, almost all of the PGA pros do it. What's your view on it for us poor amateurs?

The biggest problem Noobs have is conceptual-how they think a golf swing works is fundamentally flawed. Teaching becomes a process of convincing them to abandon how they think it work and try something different. Male golfers are incredibly stubborn in that regard. I learned this working as starter at a public course, sitting at the first tee. While conversing with people waiting to tee off I’d ask how they learned. The majority of people beginners at public course have never taken a lesson or read a book with ‘ducks in a row’ approach of what to do. At best they ‘cherry pick’ information here on KZbin with videos claiming to have discovered the “Holy Grail” that will solve all swing problems. I’ve never formally taught golf but I did teach college classes and classes at work and learned the best approach when teaching anyone one-on-one is to start the lesson by asking, “So how do you think _____ works on a cause and effect level?” When I do that with friends who express an interest in golf their concept of the swing is always some variation on dropping the club down some distance behind the ball, steering face square to target, then sweeping the ball up cleanly off the turf. The first drill I have them do is tossing a ball side arm at the ground just forward of their feet. Then I tell them to imaging they are holding a spear and trying to stick it into the ball with the same action and that if they do that the club will react by spinning down around the hands into the ball. To proved that I show them how to swing a club down the line and hit balls with just the trail hand. The drills work because they change their fundamental understanding of swing mechanics. That makes the rest just a process of refining the newly accepted paradigm rather than teaching in “ducks in a row” fashion which is the norm all classroom / group lesson format; not because it is the easiest way for the student to learn but because it is the easiest way to teach.

Enjoy your training but watching this one, you’re ball is set forward like a driver vs iron? Maybe it’s camera angle but my issue is typically hitting fat so ball way forward doesn’t help. 😎🏌️♂️
