I really hope so! I didn't mention it in the video, but being able to set a key and scale and have pitch quantized to that would also be fantastic for melodic patches. Random LFO set to pitch, pitch quantized to the scale, and then all of a sudden a drum roll becomes a random arp!

First time to your channel. Im liking what you shared here. I just sold my acoustic drums. I have a syntakt and beatstep pro. I like the sounds and dont mind the interfaces on both devices, but I want to play the syntakt like a drum module or find another device, maybe like this one, so I can use it as a drum module. So you would trust the razz do the job for a gig? I get the cost issue, but what about a eurorack case using the 4ms pad trigger module with some pads then into whatever sound moudles in the case? Gear aside, in a playing test, 1010 vs modular, what do you think of feel and then having to work with the gear while playing?
@FreeBeat
@FreeBeat Жыл бұрын
Thanks! You should be able to assign up to 4 modulation destinations to velocity on the Syntakt, although I haven't had my hands on one for a while so I might be remembering that wrong. I'd totally trust the Razzmatazz for a gig, while it is plastic, it feels solid. I briefly looked into a bunch of other solutions, however, I wanted to keep the rig as small and easy to set up and take down as possible. Thanks for watching!

I’ve been playing with the 1010music stuff as well! First you don’t need an internal battery a 30 dollar external usb brick works fine and has enough to run a good speaker like the Bose or JBL. I got the Black Box because I wanted the portable sequencer power, I don’t need the razzmatazz mainly because the Black Box is a Sampler as well and I have a ton of samples of anything I want. But I am playing with the Lemondrop also and I probably will get the orange one as well. (Its name escapes me at the moment) I don’t need another wave synth or granular synth, but damn, they’re cool portable. I’m considering the blue box as well, but again I don’t need another mixer and portability is awesome but the truth is I never go anywhere! My system is getting so big mini and micro is all I’ve got room for now! I totally dig the way you are using the razzmatazz as a module, I hadn’t thought of that, but then again I don’t possess your timing skills or knowledge. I’m working on learning some of it, but your experience is hard to come by! Love the video and I agree, for you this was a perfect choice and worth every dime! Peace

I'm glad you discovered it. I've had mine for quite a while, and other than some missing functionality like chaining, adding slice markers etc, I love it. It's funny you just posted about velocity, I've been working with it a lot recently on this and my Nord Drum 2 (which handles it even more dynamically). Makes a huge difference. I look forward to your future videos on it. There's tons of stuff to play with. i pre ordered the 1010 nano sampler tangerine cause it can edit samples and handle multi sampling so it can clone any synth. i wanted the razz cause it sounds good and the micro sequencer looks cool but not being able to set loop start and end points seems like a huge miss i wonder how the sequencer will be on the tangerine? but if it's ok it will be a sick groovebox and should handle drum samples better then the razzmatazz just because ya can do multi layer drum samples and edit them. the razz still is dope and might still be better for drums both would be a killer combo . i get why you like the velocity modulation for your use case .

The Tangerine looks very interesting! I'm interested to see what folks say once they start showing up in the wild. I do think it's interesting that the Razzmatazz can't adjust start and end points of samples. It's not really a feature that I need, but I definitely get why it's a turn off for some.
@SonicVibe
@SonicVibe Жыл бұрын
@@FreeBeat definitely I like the drum sounds on the razz my worry is how do ya add more sounds? unless the sample is chopped perfectly with no editing start end points? but In theory I should be able to take the sound library of the razz to the tangerine maybe 🤔 ya just won’t have the same modulation options and I wonder 💭,how the sequencer’s very between the 2 devices I hear the one on the razz is good besides no chaining of sequences. And I think 🤔 the tangerine 🍊 aka pumpkin 🎃 for Halloween ya have to live play on a keyboard 🎹 but it quantized to the beat. What do you mean by "play-ability"? (a vague term you used that seemed very important to you, yet went unexplained). After all, isn't it triggered either by the tiny screen, or by midi info? What lessons should we all learn from this? I still don't know much about the machine's capabilities, but can already infer many limitations from your presentation. Is $400 really "affordable" for something esoteric and limited like this? Your valid criticisms about lack of power supply, USB functionality and available modulation targets suggest the product still being perfected.

By playability, I think he means expressiveness, like MPE pads can offer.

I think the 2 playing examples in the video say it all (for me, at least). I'm able to play it, much like a real drum, with my own physical drumming changing the sounds of the drums in real time, making it a very expressive instrument. I'm able to add touch and nuance to each hit. $400 is typically where this channel draws the "budget" line, when it comes to pricing. It's definitely not for everyone, there's a reason I put "for me" in the title. Hope that helps.

Absolute not. A phone isn't cranking out this kind of audio quality, most of them don't even have proper audio outputs, and I certainly would never trust a phone to house all of my drums for an on stage performance.

all the nanobox series devices should be less money, maybe $300. $400 is just too much money for something with little to no tactile function. The etcha sketch format doesn't appeal to me as much as anything with a sequencer and knobs to quickly change the settings.

My opinion on this product is, you purchase a 450€ software. Because the hardware is so cheap that it is literally negligible. For example: Why does the screen has such a huge frame? I'm pretty sure that a discarded Android phone with a 5€ app such like Koala Sampler would do the job much better.
@FreeBeat
@FreeBeat Жыл бұрын
That might work for you, but the Razz is definitely perfect for live shows for me. Especially since I'm not a fan of software live haha.

@@hanspeters1796 Lol you are literally talking about the outside of the box. The money went into the hardware inside dimwit. how about you actually try playing one, as the man kindly explains to you in the video. It sounds amazing. it's pocket-sized. the screen is plenty big enough for everything except typing which you dont have to do that often. The only reason you are complaining about bezels is because you've had the issue programmed into your head by phone companies trying to one-up each other with small design details for more or less identical products. It's not that important. A bigger screen is not just the surface of the box, it also changes what's inside. Since you are not a product designer, maybe shut up and leave it to people who actually understand compromise.

@@hanspeters1796 .... besides which, if you're going to use software, you first have to buy a laptop or iPad etc to run it on, believe it or not. And an interface. At which time it costs a lot more than this and is no longer a pocket device. So what's the comparison you are trying to make?
