The entire purpose of the SAT is to gauge how well a student will do in college. If those students who cheated are doing fine in those colleges, doesn't that say something about the SAT? These standardized tests are a ploy to make money, nothing more.
@katelynbrown988 жыл бұрын
ArcticAnDroid Well yea, but also, this guy admitted to cheating just 16 times, but he may have taken it more. I don't think those 16 kids are proud of themselves five years later, after they've probably finished college. And maybe they didn't finish, maybe they dropped out bc they realized college classes were too difficult. The SAT is definitely suppose to be more reflective of college exams than those you receive in hs. They have a validity and I don't see why everyone is blaming the system. Like wtf..you need an academic standard to be accepted into a higher education course!
@mrtron18507 жыл бұрын
The SAT is one of the best indicators of college performance. Sure you have some lower scoring students outperforming higher scoring students, but in general the higher the score the better the college performance.
@fatass34556 жыл бұрын
The SAT has nothing to do with college or life imo, it's just a measure of how good you are at taking standardized tests. I performed higher than several of my friends on the SAT, but I know for a fact that they are smarter than me and perform higher than me in most of my classes. Knowing how to answer the questions that the SAT asks doesn't teach you anything about life skills or the stress of college.
@helenhill48356 жыл бұрын
It's not how well a student will do in college, just if they learned the info they needed to in HS to advance onto college. High School is what is SUPPOSED to prepare kids for college (it doesn't).

@AznPr1des8 жыл бұрын
while I do find it unfair for the students who do work for their grades and success, I still have to say fuck ETS and their damn tests. gave me so much stress back in high school. the SAT ONLY measures how good you are at taking the test. it does NOT accurately reflect a student's intelligence or predict how well they will succeed later in life.
@mochachino8908 жыл бұрын
Since schools vary widely in academic rigor, GPA isn't a very good metric of a student's ability either. What would you propose would be a better alternative?
@matthewwalters16028 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Le I think the problem is that the sat and just standardize tests in general are plain stupid. They ask you the most ridiculous questions that don't and never will apply to 99% of test takers lives; furthermore, is a student who studied 5 minutes before taking a test to remember some random fact more qualified than a student who spent 5 hours memorizing but didn't remember? School in general is a huge waste of time unless you are directly going to school to train for an exact job. When am I realistically going to use Pythagorean Theorem? When I get a job involving math? No and even if I did the resources of my time allow me to easily research it from almost anywhere on the Internet to refresh my memory yet I remember spending hours in school being tested on things like that. "You can't always rely on the Internet for everything" fuck you engineers spent their lives making the Internet as great as it is and it has become the single most useful learning device you sayicantuseit
@melpomeneouranos49738 жыл бұрын
Exactly!!
@mochachino8908 жыл бұрын
Matthew Walters I'd counter that it's less about the result and more about the process. It's not that you'll be to apply the Pythagorean Theorem in real life, but you'll learn to think in different ways and be able to have the capacity to solve complex problems. Also, learning basic geometry and what not is just an application of the algebra that cements your understanding algebraic math in general. To say that algebra doesn't affect your field of learning would be incorrect. Once again, I see the same flaws in the SATs as you do, but until we have an efficient method to test the mental capacity of millions of students at one time... its, unfortunately, the best we have.

Most people don't realize that the SAT is a business, not some government issued test that legitimately analyzes skills of the test taker. It is run by the College Board, which is actually a company and not a "board". Their tests are designed in such a way that unless you are in the top 1% of geniuses, you cannot finish everything on the test in time. The scores you need to pass an AP test for instance are really strange. You can pass some of them with only getting 35-40% correct. Yet for all these tests, you are required to pay to take. And if you want to send these scores to a school, you're looking at 11$ extra per report. I think it's ridiculous that such a business is allowed to dominate the education system.

Well the SATs and ACTs aren't a very good way of gauging how intelligent a student is or how much they learned in HS. I had a friend in high school who had finished college-level cal 3, linear, and differentials math classes, yet she got a lower math score than I did on the ACTs, though I just barely scraped through cal 1. I have another friend who was our class's valedictorian, who is a math tutor and finished cal 3 with ease. Yet she also got a lower math score than me. Does that mean that they're worse than me at math? Not at all. It just shows that I'm luckier, maybe, or maybe I'm a bit better at taking tests. Standardized testing is riddled w faults.

Not only that, but based on the grade a student consistently gets throughout high school needs to play a bigger effect. If they work that hard in HS, they will in college too. It needs to be more of an overall perspective of the person. Throughout all of those years we've taken hundreds of tests. And even places like New York we need to take so many final tests called Regents just to be able to graduate. Adding in the SAT is just ridiculous in my opinion.

@thequerier478 жыл бұрын
True, the test can be biased because of anxiety etc therefore a 3-4 hour test is not proven to be accurate. However... That being said may highschools are at different levels. One highschool's A might be different from anothers highschool's A and their tests might be totally different. Therefore 1 standardised test across every highschool *can* be seen as advantageous. Not that I agree with standardised tests but it has it's perks.
@mrtron18507 жыл бұрын
Some High Schools are more academically rigorous than others. The SAT/ACT gives you a look at their performance on an even playing field. Another problem with looking at just High School is that you can have "Study Wonders" who get high grades because they put in a lot more time studying than most of the other students. It's good they're so dedicated, but being a Study Wonder won't help them as much when they have to deal with the more challenging material and heavier course load in college. The SAT gives you a good idea of their true scholastic aptitude.

That’s not really fair either. One of my friends is truly quite dumb but his GPA is 4.0 unweighted because his school makes it so easy! My school on the other hand is IB and academically challenging so someone getting a 3.7 here would count for more. Therefore the SAT which is the same for everyone will showcase that the “friend” is actually a worse student than the one in the IB school.

M G Most colleges look at your grades in relation to your high school's averages. So if your friend's school really does give A's to everyone, then the admissions department is aware of that.

Ayyyyyyeeeee I'm not even mad at him, at least he's helping them beat the system. 💯💯💯💯

Yeah. Beat the system for rich kids born with a silver spoon in their mouths while the less fortunate work hard in their shitty ghetto high schools without enough money for their own school supplies and often don't get in anywhere that they deserve to get into anyway because they need financial assistance for university whereas that same cheating rich kid could ease in with money alone. Ayyyyyyyyyyyeeeee.
@alfredosanchez45468 жыл бұрын
You don't need to be rich to do well in school. Also, did you see his house in the video? It does not look like he is very wealthy, also the main reason he was doing this was for the money, he said he was broke.

Same if you really analyze what he did it’s bad in a good way helping people to get into college and have a career and a better life and it doesn’t affect the smart people because they’re going to college anyway anyhow beside that a student with low income and not necessarily bad grades maybe with some A and B can’t go because he or she couldn’t get a higher score and haters will say “ but those kids pay money for it “ yeah but how much cost be in a 4 year college literally half of billion dollars depending of their career it was for them a huge invest in that time but that will save their life unfortunately they caught all the students and give them criminals records which mess more their record
@pearspeedruns6 жыл бұрын
Alfredo Sanchez He could afford a keyboard. Doesn't seem broke to me. Sounds like a basic college student: "my budget doesn't support daily pot. I'm broke."

This shows how fucked the school system is. It's so much pressure on young people and only a number chooses the rest of your life. Maybe at that time you aren't as smart or you aren't mature enough and it just chooses the rest of your career and what you do in life it's really fucked
@thomasduncan40746 жыл бұрын
Koto Español - No, it only shows how lazy kids are and how unwilling they are to do what it takes to achieve success. Paying somebody to take your college entrance exam only serves to indicate that you don’t have what it takes to tackle the academic rigor of a top notch college or university. Besides, kids can skip the ACT/SAT and go the community college route instead and be just as successful, so it’s not like they don’t have options. I would say that these kids are trying to take the easy way out by getting somebody else to do the hard work for them. That right there is not the fault of our school system.

I didnt study for mine.. I didnt think it was that important. I still got in the colleges I wanted. Fact is this SAT is not a good indicator of intelligence or even smarts. I dont really care that someone along me in college cheated on their SAT, college and work will expose them if they continue. Really at the end of the day can you do the work, are you competent, and so on that matters. There are plenty of people who did better than me on SAT but they couldnt do what I do.

It mostly matters for huge state schools. And if you say it doesn't count for them then you are wrong
@vvysoc9 жыл бұрын
MrWolves321 I did well enough on the sat and act despite not getting ready for it in any way to, and I got into some great colleges. I am not saying you shouldn't study to do the best you can, just because it worked for me doesn't mean it will work for you. Tests is what we have on mass scale, we just have to go by it. Generally people who do extremely well on exams like sat and act are pretty smart though. These exams just point to the fact that there is a good chance one is fit for higher education.

Why ask him the simplest of questions? This interviewer expects only one answer, and pushes him to it. It gets really annoying. Yes, what he did is unethical, but he is likely smarter than you academically, should the interviewer really find it necessary to force an apologetic reply out of him? Already, with his prior answer, where he mentions saving several kids, you can tell he knew what he was doing.

Fabian Aguilar in US, the court gives sentences based on what the Jury says. So if he acts like he is sorry, the jury will be soft on him.
@1984Porthos8 жыл бұрын
+John Christian Depends on the state you live in. Most states the judge imposes the sentence. Also he has already been convicted so he could say whatever he wanted and they could not try him again. He is most likely just trying to save face so that he doesn't look like a bad guy. What he did just shows what US colleges are really like.
