If Stoic's death hurt, imagine seeing the series faithfully between the two movies... where there is a lot of development. And almost immediately after reuniting with Valka. I understand that Drago’s yells seem a little over the top! Believe me, I don’t fault anyone for feeling that way because of how wild he gets. But to me, they make sense when I consider that he’s essentially the antithesis of someone like Hiccup or, more specifically, Valka. Think about it. Valka lived among dragons for 20 years, and we saw how that time span impacted her approach and mannerisms in her mission to protect them. Drago, however, was physically hurt and stripped of everything by dragons when he was a boy (his monologue about this wasn’t featured in the reaction, though). Then, fueled by his desire for revenge and with no one to tell him otherwise, he sought to control all dragons! So, imagine someone like Drago dedicating at least double the amount of time Valka did among dragons but learning about ways to control dragons rather than protect them! Hence why he communicates with the dragons with yells rather than gentler gestures. But that long time period also cemented those beliefs of controlling dragons into Drago’s psyche to the point where he felt it was the ONLY way to deal with dragons, and he took his frustrations out on anyone who wouldn’t listen or follow that point of view (hence why both Stoick & Valka said that Drago was a “mad men” and couldn’t be talked to or reasoned with). Anyway, all this is to say that, when I thought about it more, Drago’s actions and mannerisms made sense given his history.

I know this is late, but I honestly think the saddest part of this movie is Drago’s weapon. For those who don’t know, that’s a bullhook. And it’s most commo use was as a tool used for terrorizing, torturing and abusing baby elephants so they still fear their master when they’re fully grown. Drago did that to his bewilderbeast, torturing and breaking it from the moment it hatched. That poor dragon was tortured and brainwashed since it was the equivalent of a newborn child. Learning the truth about that weapon, Drago’s bewilderbeast is honestly the saddest and most heart breaking part of the movie. Poor dragon knew nothing but fear, pain and obedience since it hatched, and as much as love and affection can imprint on a young animal, so can fear. The grey bewilderbeast was completely innocent in this movie. It was a completely and utterly traumatised animal terrified of it’s master since childhood. It’s why I personally can’t stomach the triumphant “final fight” of every single dragon blasting it. The poor creature didn’t deserve any of it, there’s no triumph in brutalizing a scared animal acting only out of fear and trauma.

there are actually two spinoff series. Riders of Berk aired on Cartoon Network for about 2 seasons which takes place months (if not weeks for the first few episodes) after the first film. Hiccup was 15 in the first film and about 15-16 in Riders of Berk. Then there was Race To The Edge, which aired on Netflix with 6 seasons. In that one, Hiccup is 18-19 and we see what sparked the relationship between him and Astrid and how they learned to navigate being romantic partners while also being leaders and battling their enemies alongside each other. The second film takes place a year after Race To The Edge, making Hiccup 20 years old. Gift Of The Night Fury is a holiday special on Netflix, taking place after the first movie. Dawn of The Dragon Racers is another special that takes place in between Riders of Berk and Race To The Edge and shows the origins of Dragon Racing I'll do an updated timeline when the 3rd film reaction drops so I don't spoil anything

I don't SPECIFICALLY know how Drago controls the dragons but I kind of just guessed that all the screaming he does is to try and make himself seem scarier and assert dominance over dragons. Not only that, but Drago also found the Bewilderbeast as an egg so he raised and abused it ever since, which made it easier for him to control the dragons he couldn't assert dominance over.
@chelseamorning46404 ай бұрын
The first one was really good but I think this is a rare case where the second film is just better. I love Stoick and Valka's reunion, it's so bittersweet given what happens. Like... you finally see the love of your life again after 20 years and you're happy and singing arguably one of the best songs in cinema and dancing and having a wonderful time, only to have them ripped away and there isn't even time to truly mourn because you have to keep fighting. It broke my heart when Hiccup tells Toothless to go, I hate moments like that in film, it happens all the time where someone or an animal unintentionally causes harm and the person they love lashes out at them. Like, he didn't mean to do it! Don't yell at the poor baby.

Lol you were thinking race to the edge which is on netflix…it was great and hiccup and astrid basically get engaged in the show Edit:: RTTE is all bout hiccup and the gang exploring, and the timing/events are ambiguous enough to be mostly canon

It really is the perfect trilogy. You will love the 3rd as much as these 2! Piece of advice though... have tissues

I remember how smug I was when I guessed Valka was Hiccup's mother before she said the line, cause my parents doubted it. Then, I proceeded to cry my eyes out with Stoick's funeral.
