I tend to split woods that do not dry very well unless they are split like oak, beech, birch, and popple even when they are pretty small. Woods like ash, maple, cherry, or pine I tend to leave bigger rounds. I know it is only boiler wood but be careful leaving those limbs on like that. It is asking for some pinched fingers. I would not burn that oak before it dries out for a while unless I was really desperate for wood.

I've got to get myself set up with a boiler! I have been giving away too many BTUs of un-stackable firewood because I burn in a woodstove in my basement and if it will not stack onto my rolling carts to bring through the basement door, I either burn it in an outside fire pit, or give it to a boiler user. Which I have several friends that burn a boiler so it's not a complete waste to give it away, but I would like to use it. As for size, I wish people would stop thinking that the convenience store wood size is what they want. I sell a bit of firewood, and everyone want it to be kindlin size. You have to have some bigger wood if you want to produce continuous heat from the burn.

I have a boiler and producing firewood there is legit no waste. If it’s rotted or full of bugs or too knarly to split it goes in the boiler haha no issues there!

Yep I'm glad you finally adopted the you can never have too much wood attitude. It's all money in the bank. Yep cut it all 16 inches that way you take the better looking boiler wood a resplit for production wood even the pine because folks love the snap crackle pop of it in a camp fire etc. When you splitting boiler wood you can toss some pretty stuff to side for production wood.. Far as racks go if you can aquire some cheap used drill stem and sucker rod it makes perfect rack material. I use to make face cord half cord and the occasional full cord racks with it but most time just multiple of face cord and half cord racks.

Drill stem is a good idea. They make awesome flag poles too.

What’s up brother. I like the 4 way for boiler wood. I don’t feel the need for the 6 way for boiler logs. Chances are they are knotted nasty so the single/4 way is best for that wood.

Good advice Jay. I have a Classic 6048 also. Do you cover that wood? If it rains on it do you throw it in anyway or get dry stuff from somewhere else? Sometimes I'll throw mine in a little wet but it definitely smolders more. Wondering what you do.Thanks!

I don’t bother covering it. I try to load the boiler when it’s actively running so I don’t toss wet wood on a dormant coal bed. If it’s snowy I try to bang the snow off but the rain covered logs ain’t a problem. Usually toss in more than normal per load so it all dries faster. It’s all about keeping that good coal bed!

We finally got a cold snap, Im sure your furnace has been feasting and hopefully making a dent in the giant piles of boiler wood you're trying to clear up.
