I’m a taxi driver & I’ve driven a BMW 520d/ Mercedes 220d E Class. The car which I drive now is a 2 litre SE L Estate 150 bhp & it is the best car I’ve ever owned, I do a lot of long distance driving & it is so comfortable & quiet. I would really recommend it to anyone.

Just traded my 22 reg BMW 520d M Sport for a 73 reg Suberb 2k on the clock for £28,250. The Skoda is a better car. The BMW broke down twice and BMW couldn't tell me what went wrong!

For the best bargains I also buy my cars at 1-2 years old & low miles. I'm on my 2nd Superb Estate & it's the most practical car ever. My 1st Mk2 Superb was a 2.0 diesel which regularly did 60+mpg on my daily 80 mile commute. My current MK3 Superb is a 2016 280 L&K petrol with 360bhp & 4 wheel drive which I've had since 2018. Now I'm retired so I don't do huge mileages anymore & don't worry about the fuel consumption so much. That said the current Superb will do 38mpg on a run but around town it's nearer 28mpg. It's a marvellous carry-all Q car that will be very hard to replace when the time comes.

Got a 6 month old 280tsi 4x4 in 2018 and it has been rock solid. Buckets of space, comfortable, has all the toys I need, including heated windscreen. Doesn't have the adaptable suspension but the sport line set up is very good. Its fair to say there's more fuel-efficient cars out there but it's not expensive to run. It's definitely designed as a cruiser but will get up and go if needed. I keep thinking of changing it for something shorter for parking in town, but actually at the minute I feel I'd only be disappointed in anything else.

Enjoyed your video. Many Thanks. Can't agree with you more; I bought a 6 months' old Superb SE L diesel dsg estate 150hp with 6 thousand miles on the clock from a Skoda franchised dealer at the beginning of this month. Huge saving as compared to a 40K new Superb with same spec. So far so good and are enjoying the car tremendously. This came with no surprise to me since this is the second Superb I own. The first one was a 2015 Superb Elegance DSG diesel 170bp estate. It gave me 96k miles and 8 years of trouble free travel; mainly on motorways in France and Spain. Had to sell it due to the recent ULEZ expansion and it was a EURO 5 car. The new one is even more enjoyable and impressive. It managed to achieve almost 70 mpg in a recent 120 miles trip on the motorway!! The adaptive cruise control is definitely a joy to use. The standard 18" wheels with thicker tyre wall make the new Superb even more comfortable to ride than the old one with 19" wheels and low profile tyres. By the way, I managed to put a full size Pashley gents bike into my old one. Haven't tried it in the new one yet.

I think you gave up too early with the bike if you had removed the parcel shelf and put it an angle I am convinced it would have gone in. The tow bar negates the need though with a tow bar mounted carrier mind you your bike at the price of the build I would be putting it in the back on the most padded fluffiest Duvet money can buy and probably a few pillows thrown in for good measure. For the car a pretty good package and it can't be bad or it wouldn't be the car favoured by the taxi drivers. I also love that colour if it is the same as the VRS blue.

I've got the Superb SE L 220 DSG, it's all the power you really need in a FWD, anything more like the 280 then you'll need the AWD. In terms of styling, comfort, power, practicality and reliability, this is really it. Had a few scoff at the badge but whatever, for the price I got it, this goes onto the motorway confidently and comfortably, and any long distance driving is just all that easier with the adaptive cruise control and auto hold system. The boot can store several bodies at a time with space in the back for your passengers.

I find it amusing when you comment on the infotainment system. In my own car apart from the ever on Sat Nav screen the rest has been turned off for about three months. I have this problem that I like to talk to my passenger, my wife. I cured the 'will it fit' on my bike by having a quick release for the saddle stem. No need to remove wheels! The rear screen wipe is very useful in heavy rain at slower speeds, esp if you need to reverse.

The saloon shape with a hatch back was one of the useful features on the mark 2 Superb we had the size of the hatch was such that you often didn’t need all of the access space, but on that with the TwinDoor mechanism you could open just the boot part, or open the full hatch - the newer version it seems slightly pointless. Having run a mark 2 for about a decade when our kids were small, it definitely is great as a family car, we did over 100,000 in ours with lots of long trips - plenty of space for the kids and all the luggage.

I've recently become the owner of a 2018 1.4ACT DSG Estate. First order of business was try to load up the monstrous boot space (660litres) with luggage for two and point it from Wigan to Oban for week. On the motorway its simply sublime with an excellent Active Cruise Control setup even on my near poverty spec (SE) ex fleet example. Actually even whilst poodling around Scottish A Roads the ACC worked well if I was feeling lazy and if anything was getting better fuel consumption then when driven without. (Overall we got abou 45mpg average over the week)

My Bianchi goes in with the parcel shelf out and I've got gibbon legs so have a high saddle too. On my second Superb Estate, I now have the Sportline 4x4 190bhp diesel. I find it struggles a bit off the line, bogging down a tad if you want to get out onto a busy roundabout. I think this is the AWD (?) as my last 170bhp Superb Estate didn't suffer with this. I do Belgium and back in a day a couple of times a year and no problems at all. Recently bought a mid life crisis Jaguar F Type and although that is great, it makes you realise what an fantastic car the Superb is.

These are very good,tried a few used examples 11 years ago. An estate 1.8 turbo dsg petrol,an estate 2.0 petrol manual and a lift back 2.0 diesel dsg. As a cyclist/musician the practical/space and touring abilities require a wagon or van. I settled on the 1.8 turbo but the dealer would not budge on the price and wanted $2000 NZD to fit a towbar. So I found a Honda Accord Euro L 2.4 petrol that had sunroof/leather/etc and towbar with great sound system,only 62Kkm,4 yr old. (Still have it) It does pay to shop around and 3-4 year old is good value.

After four years back in the motor trade I left it last year, thank God! Took a new job over in Bristol that means a 42 mile, each way, commute from home in South Wales. Needed a new car. Something extremely comfortable, reasonably fast, with adaptive cruise. No brainer. Skoda Superb. Bought a 16 plate Business SE 2.0tdi 150. It was a car that blew me away whilst in the motor trade. In terms of value there's nothing to touch it. Had mine a couple of months now and still get a buzz from driving it effortlessly through rainy rush hours sipping a Lavazza. It's up there with the Audi A6, BMW 5 and Merc E for less than Passat money. ❤

@@Monkeynervepetethat's fair, I had a Superb for a while and used that exact thought process at the time. My Superb is nearly 10 years old and cost me £13k two years ago but delivers everything I need and looks like new except for a few minor scuffs upfront and wheels that could do with a refurb. Simply no point in paying more. Serviced well these cars will last a very long time.

We have two Superbs in the family, estate and hatchback. I love driving them, but parking can be tricky as they are big cars. I can't see myself driving anything else, because each time I consider changing, I cannot find anything nearly as good for a similar price - or even quite a bit more. Skoda have got a lot more expensive though, so not the kind of incredible value they were. Still probably better value than any other brand though.

I think they're a bit big and stodgy compared to the Octavia. The 4x4 Sportline is the most interesting for me, but they you pay a heavy penalty on fuel consumption. I would pick the Octavia, unless I really HAD to have the extra legroom in the back. (Which is why I bought an Octavia). The DCC option on the Superb improves the driver experience, as you can stiffen up the suspension for sporty driving and then relax it for day to day comfort. But if you just want a comfortable, roomy car to waft around in, the Superb is, well superb.

Peter the Superb wagon is even more roomy. It is almost the answer to our housing shortage. In Australia the Superb and the Octavia come with a cooled glovebox and centre console. With the aircon on and the cool air turned on it really does keep my beer (German) cold in the Aussie heat. They are great cars let down by inferior dealer support. There are some issues with the cars and it would not be difficult to live with, if you knew that you were not going to have difficulty with a claim for repair. Our Lexus had problems, we arrived at the dealer, they gave us a curtesy car, attended to the issue and called us when it was fixed. They offered to bring the car to us and pick up the curtesy car. Skoda said they would have to make an application to headoffice, and they would get back to me later, in the mean time, that is $2000 and we will bring the car around to the front for you. It took 6 calls, six calls before they honoured the warrantee and they were not very nice about it either.

LOL, the name Superb was first picked by Škoda (then unified with Škoda in Pilsen which was larger!) in the 1930s and it only meant that it was the most expensive model range in the Škoda's portfolio, there was really no ambition to compare the car to the other companies' cars. But don't get me wrong, if you compare it, it just happens to be an OK name.

So maybe they have all been improved. With you on the nearly new purchasing. Saved a huge amount of money buying my Civic ex demo on a 72 plate in Jan. Also if you go ex demo you can sometimes get some expensive options in on the cheaper price that you'd probably never pay for on a brand new one.

I definitely recommend test driving an Octavia/Superb. The Fabia is their budget model, and the ride quality is one of the main things sacrificed to achieve that (and of course interior quality). The Octavia and Superb are much smoother, and the difference in the interior is night and day. The newest generation Fabia is definitely an improvement, and still beats other mini-hatchbacks out there for its intended audience, but still doesn't compare to the higher models.
@VintageLynx

@VintageLynx I always felt like it was the opposite and they were getting better - although I'm probably slightly biased because my 2008 Fabia is the S trim, so it's extremely dull. It is pretty crazy that you can factory order a 2024 Fabia SE trim, and it'll still have the manual winding windows it the rear. I thought those were a thing of the past years ago
@VintageLynx
@VintageLynx 9 ай бұрын
@@itsmikedev yes I thought so too. Just the original comment mentioned bouncy ride and poor interior in a model 13 years newer than my Fabia - which definitely doesn't have such ride quality. It's sold and firm. Maybe because its got the heft of a 1.9 turbo diesel rather than 3 cylinder. But I've never tried the later models. Something for me to do. I'm interested to compare.

Well my days. Never thought I'd see a Skoda. Superb on petrol pad and what a cracking review. Honest You've got to love these Skoda superbs every time you see one on a channel they always commentate that they love them. And yes even I and now a Skoda fanboy. Brilliant review and that was 150 break horsepower engine. Amazing. Keep it on it and keep it true

I reckon if you dropped your seat post into the frame tube a couple of inches Pete, the Bianchi would fit ok. I use a SeaSucker on the roof of my 911 as you would have to dismantle the bike entirely to get it inside!

Sportline Plus is an odd car. Its basically a Superb SE which has been kitted with Sportline livery; seats steering wheel etc. I'm on my fourth Superb; all estates. I had a Sportline 190ps DSG..It was ok. Quite harsh on the roads with 19" wheels. My last two cars have been the SE L 150ps TSI DSG. I think this is much more typical of Superbs spec and interior. My last buy was in 2022 and I bought new, mainly because of the Covid effect which dramatically increased trade in values and made it a very good time to change. I dont like the interior of the new model including the big screen and the dials setup. Ill.probably keep my current car for a long time as I'm retired now and mileage is not high. Ive had mercs and BMW in the past. I think thd Superb is the best car Ive ever owned.

had 3 vrs octavias then same superb as yours , sportline plus but with the 276 4x4 and wow did it go , sold my 3tlr bmw 630 m sport and bought the superb , much fast than the bmw , the ultimate sleeper , at just over 5 seconds not much can get away from it and with the 4x4 it never spins even in the wet ..... did love it but wife wanted a small car so exchanged for brand new karoq sportline 1.5 dsg . the 1.5 is still nice its not fast but not slow either . its perfect for karoq as not a big car ... another fact the superb always seems massive to the octavia but its only 80 or 100 kg m in weight ... i bought the bmw 630d grand turismo new from bmw and in 1 year of owning had to go back 4 times , the superb had for 2 years and had to take back once , glove box would not close properly ................ yes i recommend ... mine was meator grey which looked nice ,

Skoda superb is just superb and as a long time Octavia fan that I just switched to Superb I can affirm that is on a different level than the whole Skoda line-up (but I did not drive a kodiak ). howevere you got the wrong engine. To suit the potential of the car as a comfy floaty cruiser you need the 280 ps engine paired with the dcc, It won't make a sport car by any means, just a very relating car to drive. Also if possible get one with Canton Sound and tinted windows with sound isolation for a nice atmosphere inside.

Er... Ped! Never put your bike in lying on the left side if you have disc brakes - it can warp them (even slightly) and I'm sure you'll know that leads to a lot of screeching! I don't have a Skoda, but in my F-Pace I can easily get a bike, rollers, kit bag, medical kit (don't ask!), food ....

I think if i was going for this I'd go diesel as it also has 150ps but has more torque, plus as someone else has said your bike would/should go in with the parcel shekf removed. I agree also in terms of not going for the latest model as my current car is an ex demo car and it's an ex demo car im looking for next tho' the market here in Northern Ireland isn't exactly as plentiful for the car I'm considering.

My recommendation would be to measure the boot in various places. Innevitably with newer models you always seem to lose space to health & safety. I still remember putting my whole arm completely straight into the glove compartment in my very first corsa and 2lt bottles of water were no problem in the door bins. Now You're lucky to fit gloves in the glove compartment or a 500ml bottle of water in the door.
