We try to bring you some evidence to show how tire pressure and tire temperature are related on the race track. Its VERY different than you would expect!
We have some fun in this video and try to make a boring topic entertaining.

Great to see the higher tire pressures working

Yea. seems like 12psi is working pretty good. Don't want to go any higher tho, starts getting pretty slippery after 5-7 laps. At least in my experience.

Hey Brent, love the vid. Regarding your test, is it that you cannot compare directly from MXJ's too MXC's. the two rims is soo different regarding pressure. Where as the MXJ is Alu/magnesium, is the MXC all Magnesium. the MCJ is set to be able to run lower PSI than the MXC do to the fact that It generates heat much faster. this is something you should take in mind. also does the MXC and MXJ rims behave differently over racedistance. The MXC will hold the temp much better therefore not overheat doing long stints where as the MXJ will overheat. thumb rule, MXC's works at temp over 18C and MXJ's temps under 18C

Hey Benjamin. You have very sharp Eyes. We didn't have identical rims to test on, so this will interfere with the results. Good on you for pointing out this complexity. Because of your comment i researched the differences, and it seems that the low pressure rims (MXC) would be 'cool' and the high pressure rims 'MXJ' would be warm. This would exaggerate our results, meaning the tire temp differences might be smaller if we eliminated this from the testing. I don't know how much the rims will affect temperatures, but we were trying to show a short 5 lap (1 warmup + 3 hotlaps + 1 fast cooldown) and how it would affect the change. Interesting fact, is that both sets of tires increased by about 2.5-psi cold to hot inspite of the rim differences. my Hunch is that the rim differences are small for a 3-4 lap session, and make a larger difference on a longer race length of 10-12-16 laps. Also your rule of thumb is very valuable. I might have to invest in some MXC's. Thanks for watching!

On a maxxis ht3 12×9.00_6. Mainly in gravel roads. it says 4.0 kg but that seems a bit high. Would 25 psi b fine

My D5s have been happy around 11 12psi cold. Running 8-10psi just bogs down in corners. Yet running on D2s being a less grippy tyre I run 8-9psi just fine and more than 10psi is too loose. I think you're on the money at mid 70c's for best grip.

The tires seemed to like 15psi the day we were out, but at race length (12 laps or so) i suspect they wouldn't be happy at the end of the race. If we had run at 12-13psi it would've been magic. The only downside is that the chassis typically likes a lower pressure! Oh the compromises!!

I think track temp will affect things too, I guess its experiment and lots of notes so you can look at the conditions and have predetermined that days starting pressure to get to the operating temperature

So I’ve been dropping my pressures to even 7psi cause I thought the kart was hopping too much. Maybe I need to put higher pressures and just deal with it hopping. Or...I don’t know...what do u do to stop the hopping? I’m confused

Fernando Rodriguez put the hubs out a bit more and loosen the side pod bars, and back bumper not so it falls off just wobbles,

Pressures that are too low will cause hopping as the sidewalls will have too much give. Try going up one or two psi and see if it helps

Sounds like you got some great suggestions Fernando! my number 1 tip is to 'LEAN OUT' on the corners. Sounds silly but it makes a bigger different for me than most setup changes. Let us know what you find works best!

Love your videos hate all the adds. The two before the video is bad enough. Now you added them to the video too. Come on!! I know you want to make money but spam adds is to much. You lost a long time subscriber. I’m sure I’m not the only one either.
